Duck Dynasty's Phil Robertson shows what's wrong with conservatives
The Guardian ^ | 01/01/2014 | Ana Marie Cox

Posted on 01/01/2014 1:15:32 PM PST by SeekAndFind

We already knew he was racist and homophobic. Now it emerges that he thinks girls should marry at 15 or 16.

Know what? If you had told me, a month ago, that the Christian Right would have a strong reaction to a bearded religious zealot in a headscarf urging men to take child brides, I'd have believed that. And I would have believed that the man's family would go on Fox News to defend him, but I would have assumed they were doing it from a bunker somewhere, with voice filters and behind a screen … not in the studio on New Year's Eve.

Yet this is how things are playing out in the aftermath of footage showing Duck Dynasty's Phil Robertson advising young men to "marry … girls when they are about 15 or 16", after, of course, "making sure she can cook a meal". "You need to eat some meals that she cooks. Check that out," he said to an audience at a Christian retreat in 2009. "Make sure she carries her Bible," he added. "That will save you trouble down the road."

I suppose it depends on how you define "trouble" – Robertson implies that it has to do with the little lady (or, better said, barely pubescent child) wanting some kind of monetary compensation for her labor ("you wait until they get to be 20 years old, the only picking that's going to take place is your pocket"). It also depends on which version of the Bible she has. Better hope she skips the part where it says, "there is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ!" Actually, there a bunch of sections you should edit out.

These days, when a lib pronounces someone as “racist and homophobic”, that’s kind of a death fatwa.

I would consider it a compliment.

Here are the terms that I now wear as a badge of honor when a commie intends them as a pejorative.

I was called a scab by some Big Labor goons when I broke through their picket lines to work. Then I lead the crusade for decertification and busted their union.

Last time I checked, Phil Robertson was not a spokesman for the Conservative movement, nor did the Conservative movement endorse his views.

While some of his views are similar to mine, some aren’t.

The Liberals are getting scared of the Dynasty backlash, and and frankly, are starting to make fools of themselves.

We already know Ana Marie Cox is an idiot

She made that perfectly clear to the reader before she finished writing the first sentence.

Traveling back in time to the 50’s is like the twilight zone for today’s younger generation.

Oh, I love this guy! What a kook! As a Guardian watcher, I do think that anyone can solicite an article to CiF and get printed - as long as it shows a high level of ignorance and hatred towards America. Some of these “editorials” are beyond absurd. Glad to know I’m not the only one who follows this ridiculous newspaper.

And I would venture to guess that Anna Marie likes anything but Cox.

Ana Marie Cox from Wikipedia:

She began graduate school at the University of California, Berkeley

That’s all I need to know.

Note that this stupid B has no problem with middle school girls giving oral sex or having abortions, but is horrified at the thought of a 15 or 16 year old girl getting married.

The joy I experienced when the lazy featherbedding idiots (all of whom were DemonRATS) were fired shortly after the union was booted was sublime. That moment rates up there with accepting Christ as my Savior, getting married, casting a vote for Barry Goldwater in 1964, firing my first gun and other highlights in my 70+ years.

Some of those who has been rightfully fired had seniority of 30 or more years. So much for their tenure. I laughed as they left for the final time -- the same guys who called me a "new fish" when I joined the company and saw how they rested on their laurels and contributed nothing to profitability. The boss gave me and others who joined in the anti-union cause a nice raise. Plus, the archaic workrules imposed by the union were scrapped, allowing us to work additional hours for even more money.

If you get the idea that I hate unions with an unbridled passion, you're spot on! My only regret about living in Texas is that we have so few picket lines to cross. In my younger years, while still in Pennsylvania, I made a point to look for places where strikes were occurring (and they were plentiful) so that I could brazenly look the union goons straight in the eye and proudly walk right past them. Kroger grocery stores seemed to have perpetual pickets and I bought plenty of food there (even if I wasn't hungry) as my way of protesting the power of the Big Labor racketeers.

Courtesy ping to Mesta Machine for my memories of Western Pennsylvania unionism.

I am concerned about you, brother, if you put ANYTHING on a par with receiving your salvation. ANYTHING at all. The Lord isn’t chuckling at this “humor.”

We're both members of The International Brotherhood of Union Haters. They tried to crush my father's company and he kicked them to the curb, and then out of the shop.

The state of Louisiana permits 16 to 18 year-older to marry with parents consent. Under 16 by court order. What’s the problem here?

Hmmmm. Bearded religious zealot. Headscarf. Child brides.

Do I detect a veiled reference to something else, Ana Marie? As a Bible-thumpin' redneck, I'm too stoopit to understand it. Spell it out for me would ya, Ana Marie.

I mean, unless you're askeered to for some weird reason.

Thanks for that good advice and I understand your concern fully. Let me try to clarify. The most important moment in my life is accepting Christ. Period. Paragraph. The End. All else is trivial by comparison.

When I sift through the eight decades of memories, there are certain things that stand out, and those items are simply among them. As I age, a lot of things are forgotten. While certainly not on par with my repentance and baptism, busting the union (and the other things I mentioned) are memorable.

Much obliged, FRiend!

It’s my understanding that the author either misunderstood what Robertson said, or has intentionally misstated what he said. Either way, it reflects badly on her credibility.
