A government and sociology professor at Harvard writes that the Tea Party is more likely than not to "win in the end" in an age when Americans are becoming more removed from Washington and distrusting the federal government and their elected officials.
"Tea Party forces will still win in the end," Theda Skocpol writes, unless moderate Republicans can defeat them. Skocpol concedes that the Tea Party "will triumph just by hanging on long enough" as Americans are getting fed up by "our blatantly manipulated democracy and our permanently hobbled government."
The article, "Why The Tea Party Isn't Going Anywhere," was first published in the journal Democracy, and later reprinted in The Atlantic.
Despite the fact that Democrats, the mainstream media, and the Republican establishment again were predicting the "demise of the Tea Party" immediately after the government shutdown ended, Skocpol doesn't believe so.
"But we have heard all this before," she writes. "The Tea Partys hold on the GOP persists beyond each burial ceremony."
Skocpol and Vanessa Williamson published a book in 2011 that "showed how bottom-up and top-down forces intersect to give the Tea Party both leverage over the Republican Party and the clout to push national politics sharply to the right."
"At the grassroots, volunteer activists formed hundreds of local Tea Parties, meeting regularly to plot public protests against the Obama Administration and place steady pressure on GOP organizations and candidates at all levels," they found. "At least half of all GOP voters sympathize with this Tea Party upsurge."

I do not trust the GOP. They’ve cheated on us so often they’d make Henry VIII blush.
I wonder how many Tea Party members or sympathizers are also affiliated with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce? Time for a revolt?
Ditto.
I'm not a member of the Tea Party, and probably never will be.
However, I do agree with most of what the Tea Party believes in.
This year I retire, and will finally have time to get back on our county Republican committee.
That's where you fight.
A whole lot of local fighting wins the country eventually.
Scokpol is a Marxist whose interest is in revolution. She compared the American, French, and Chinese Revolutions for her dissertation, I think. So, this observation should not be seen as her endorsement of Tea Party.
So, God wanted Obama - twice, Clinton - twice, FDR - 3 times, Lyndon Johnson, Woodrow Wilson, ad nauseum.
Apparently, God doesn't know what he, she or it is doing.
Thanks for the background. It is good to know.
I didn’t see it as an endorsement. I see it as positive PR regarding the durability and strength of the Tea Party.
so the left will perceive Ted Cruz as a “White Hispanic”? therefore he’s disqualified to be President?
Harvard prof? He must be an imposter.
The CoC in my town holds monthly meetings at a local coffee shop. I am considering picketing the next one with signs protesting the CoC's attack on the US middle class by legalizing millions of illegal Democrat voters.
the beltway GOP will continue to field “sore loser” candidates in order to split the sucker conservative votes. (such as: Huckabee, Thompson, Christie, Ryan, Rubio, Crist, etc...)
you are better off joining them as a “prospective member” along with other potential members and then asking a few key questions publicly which then know they can not answer and keep potential members or members who will be renewing.
CoC should be a toxic association.
They won’t accept him as a real Latino. Real latinos, according to them, smoke dope and are called Cheech.
Someone above said she’s a Marxist.
In which case, she’s a depressed Marxist.
If you have ever watched Raiders of the Lost Ark, you'll notice a great life lesson. Indiana Jones almost never never wins a fight. The only fight I can remember him winning is the one where he shoots the swordsman, but even that was in the context of Mariane getting kidnapped, and he lost that. He goes through the whole movie losing, getting beaden down, but how does he win in the end? He gets up one more time than the others knock him down. By the end of the movie, he is the only one left standing.
Hillary and the baby boomers moved into the Democratic party in the 1960s, but were not in charge when they were young. They didn't like the old guard Democrats, and fought with them exactly like the tea party is fighting the GOPE. (people forget that part of history) But eventually the old faded away, and the boomers inherited the party.
Can the GOPe bring in the young? Of course not. But the Tea Party can. They are idealistic and vote on principles, and the young respond to that. They are the only group working to fix the burden of government that the young will have to live with for the rest of their lives. If the tea party can bring in the young, the Tea party will inherit the GOP, no matter what temporary victories the GOPe will have along the way.
Go to your coffee shop meeting! And give them the facts of who is picking losers.
Yes the Tea Party lost some races but also won many and as a grassroots movement they are just getting started. Besides the national republican party did not support Tea Party picks and likely performed some nasty deeds against some of the TP candidates. So the few TP losses can be attributed to lack of support and backstabbing from national persons, like Rove.
Read what I posted below on a related thread and then look at the response below it. Give this information to your coffee shop group.

Werent Roves picks for US Senate largely losers?
The Tea Party picks were successful and some unsuccessful. Yes, the Tea Party can and will improve as time marches on.
But the establishment picks in the last election? Where do they have a stellar track record of success? Please somebody tell me because I cant find anywhere how these GOP-e types are so successful.
Who are the biggest losers here? The Tea Party or the GOP-e?
Who has the better track record of success?

The answer I got was:

Donald Trump tweet after the 2012 elections:
Congrats to @KarlRove on blowing $400 million this cycle, Trump tweeted on Wednesday. Every race @CrossroadsGPS ran ads in, the Republicans lost. What a waste of money.
Karl Rive success was 1.3% while Sarah Palin was 75% success
Crossroads had a 16.7 percent success rate in the last election.

I asked for a link so I don’t know if the above is true but I have seen before a credible reference where Rove’s track record is abysmal.
i guess then maybe ted may want to appt. cheech or chong as VP?
You’ve been reading too much Norman Vincent Peale.
I mean that in good humor. I appreciate your half full approach.
(But, I still don’t trust them.:>)
I’d prefer we go with your name and have him appoint West or Paul. Lol.
Go hit the comments! Hit them while they are stung by the foretaste of tea party victories!
