It’s being replaced by a lawyer with a briefcase full of subpeonas full of sternly worded terror.
“Long disliked by the US Air Force, the A-10 Thunderbolt II ground-attack jet may finally be heading for the chopping”
Maybe disliked by the bean counters, but loved by the pilots and I don’t know of a word strong enough to describe the emotion felt by the soldiers whose butts were saved by this awesome aircraft. What do they possibly have in the works to take its place in low flight ground support that will take a lickin and keep on tickin like the Wharthog?
Reminds me of that female warthog pilot in Iraq. Came back with amazing damage.
Sorry? The female pilot or the wharthog?
Just like Obamacare.
It’s a funding stunt. Take the A-10 out of service, get some expensive fighters trounced and a bunch of our brave young killed, and then there’s proof the military needs the funding to develop a new plane that has the same capabilities as the then dismissed A-10. Feed that machine!
Like the Marines at An Nasiryiah.
The air force is run by fighter pilots and they hate this plane. Its too low tech and cheap.
If only USAF pilots could pass an armor id class.
Thank God for Navy and Marine Air.
Unbelievable.
We take air superiority so much for granted, it is going to come back and bite us in a way that is going to shock us to the core. You know how shocked the British soldiers, sailors, government and people were when the Americans defeated them at Yorktown and “Turned the World Upside Down”? THAT is what it is going to be like for us when these “choices” go bad.
We depend on air superiority for the success of our armed forces. For our ground troops, our ships at sea, and nearly every single thing you can relate to.
We have been spoiled, because we have had adults in charge most of the time who understood this necessity, and worked towards maintaining it. We have had air superiority in every single engagement of any kind from the end of WWII up until today.
If we do not maintain control of the skies and cede that to our next enemy, we will see American blood shed in ways we have not seen since WWII.
We wont be able to supply and transport our troops by air. Helicopters are sitting ducks for the enemy if they control the air. We wont even be able to medevac.
Our supply columns will be destroyed, as will our tank formations. Our ships at sea will suffer the same fate.
In the same way that nearly the entire food chain from livestock down to corn is dependent on water, military power is dependent on air power. Without it, you cannot have and project military power.
It is really that simple, and it is why we must keep and maintain A-10s, reopen F-22 production (or develop a worthy replacement) and purchase F-35s or whatever the future is there. But we know that isnt going to happen. Liberals have the levers of power, and they are hell bent on destroying our military.
When this goes bad, the people responsible will be nowhere to be found. They will scream the loudest in outrage, but the blame will be on everyone else but them.
Wart-HOG !!
Any connection?
Wart Hawg. Great airplane to fly!
Will the local SWAT be getting them?
Got to get home safe, you know.
Yeah cause they’ve never made mistakes. Ooops they have
You’re pretty low class aren’t ya
I love the A-10.
It carries 1100 bullets. the F-35 carries 188.
What weapon, other than the gun, can you use when the enemy is right across the road from our guys? This scenario happens frequently now.
Several years ago I had a general ask me, "when was the last air-to-air shootdown? I think that question is still valid.
I love this quote..."You can shoot down every MiG the Soviets employ, but if you return to base and the lead Soviet tank commander is eating breakfast in your snack bar, Jack, you've lost the war." - A-10 logic
Just like when the USAF dumped the EF-111A in order to pay for the F-22A.
The warthog was all shot up and she came back fine if memory serves. :)
I agree with air superiority, and would join it with “space”...which really is air.
Heinlein in “The Moon is a Harsh Mistress” really did give folks something to ponder with his story of a revolt on the moon.
I can’t believe they are gutting the military like this.
Looks like that is the whole idea.
