Retired Brooklyn Supreme Court Judge Frank Barbaro wants a white man he convicted in 1999 of killing a black man to be freed claiming Wednesday he based the verdict on his own reverse racism. The 86-year-old former jurist convicted Donald Kagan, now 39, of fatally shooting Wavell Wint, 22, during a struggle over Kagans chain outside an East New York movie theater in 1998. But Barbaro told a court that, because of his viewpoint as a civil-rights activist, he didnt consider a justification defense by Kagan in the nonjury trial. Mr. Kagan had no intent to kill that man . . . I believe now that I was seeing this young white fellow as a bigot, as someone who assassinated an African-American, Barbaro, a former longshoreman who also served 23 years in the state Assembly, told Brooklyn Supreme Court Justice ShawnDya Simpson. Barbaro said he contacted Kagans attorneys after some deep soul-searching led him to realize he had denied Kagan a fair trial.

Honestly, I don’t remember Lester’s deeds. I just looked him up and he seems to have been most notable for his segregationist policies at his Pickrick restaurant.
I don’t know how you read your Bible or our founding documents and fail to grasp that God loves every human being. As such you treat humans the way you would like to be treated. Within certain exceptions, I think animals should be treated decently too.
God sanctioned the eating of meat, so I don’t condone those who object to it. If God could sanction it, I suppose I can.
That’s a little far afield, but I reached beyond humans in an effort to express how important it is to be humane to all humans regardless of race or gender.
If we should be considerate of animals too, that pretty much puts to rest the idea there are humans who need to be carved out as not deserving of our love and respect.
Of course that’s as long as it is deserved. I do think God provides the model here too though. I think he loves the sinner. He loves man, and we are all sinners.
He does not in all instances protect us from the wages of sin here on earth. We can’t and shouldn’t allow men who have committed crimes to be able to avoid the wages of their crimes too.
Yes, Maddox was another gem from the Democrat files. I thank God I was not raised to see skin color as something that meant that someone was more or less deserving of respect.
Sadly, not everyone was raised that way.
It’s still racism. It’s important to me (and it should be to all, i think) to make sure that every syllable spokenand drop of ink printed decrying racism over the last sixty years applies to all and not just to a few favored groups
Thanks. Excellent, since the election was in the bag I think Wilhelm actually made a special effort in Staten Island for the sake of bragging rights. Those bastards are real proud that Obama won there because of the stupid mother@#%$^&!ing hurricane.
Hmm, that sack of $#!^ John Catsimatidis won SI in the primary. The local bosses must have endorsed him.
See my tag.
I wasn’t raised that way mainly because there were no blacks where I lived in Arkansas as a youth. When I say that you have to realize that we never traveled more than 30 miles from home. There were a few blacks in the county but I was around 6 years old before I ever saw a black person. There wasn’t a racist bone in my parents’ bodies but my daddy used the “n” word because he didn’t know any better.
When I became a teenager I moved to the Delta and there were more blacks in town than whites. But the whites ran everything. I have to admit I “acted” racist to get along. I regret that.
Life is a learning process. We are exposed to certain cultures and we have to deal with them over time. You can’t help what you were exposed to. Sounds like you see things different today. That’s good.
We are all going to carry some prejudice with us. It’s human nature to. At the same time, race doesn’t enter into my thinking at all, when judging how people act. Either a person is nice or they’re not. That’s what counts IMO.
I’ve been around people of all races. I can guarantee you, certain members of ethnic groups that mouth off about wanting equality, are more racist than most Whites I’ve run into..., by far.
It says the judge is 86 years old now. I'd guess he has realized he's about to meet God.
That says to me he knew what he did was wrong at the time but he did it anyway, and now it is nagging at him.
