Why Aren't Americans Cast As Superheroes Anymore? Not Manly Enough
Vulture ^ | 2/2/2011 | Claude Brodesser-Akner and Kyle Buchanan

Superheroes can usually beat any obstacle with the help of their massive strength and superior weapons, but there's a new problem on the horizon that none of them can seem to overcome: outsourcing. This week's announcement that British actor Henry Cavill would play the title role in Zack Snyder's Superman is only the latest example; he joins the Welsh Christian Bale (as Batman), British-raised Andrew Garfield (as Spider-Man), Australian Chris Hemsworth (as Thor), and even Canadian Ryan Reynolds (as Green Lantern) as foreigners cast who've been cast as classic, American-identified superheroes. Only Chris Evans in the upcoming Captain America bucks that trend, but even that casting race came with unusual stipulations — the role was restricted only to American actors (which hindered Romanian-born Sebastian Stan, the actor who got the runner-up prize of the hero's sidekick), and even then, the production came up blank after months of casting and had to extend a last-minute offer to the reluctant Evans. What's to blame for the domestic superhero shortage? Vulture asked industry professionals for their takes on the situation.

Industry professionals will hire an American in a New York Second to play a super evil character.

The feminazi war on boys has succeeded beyond their wildest dreams.

They won’t grasp the magnitude of their error until the muzzies begin to take control here and they’re all forced into burkas.

Also, Hemsworth got cast because he was working with Joss Whedon on Cabin in the Woods when he auditioned for Thor. He told Joss he messed up the audition, Joss made a phone call and he was cast.

I don't know why the author of this article is so fixated on having Americans play these superhero roles.

When I was a kid, even just the thought of dressing up in brightly-colored leotards seemed overtly homosexual to me and my friends.

My old friend Jim had the best line at a Halloween party in high school, when he described someone who showed up dressed as Superman: "That guy looks like he belongs on the cover of a coloring book for homosexuals."

Its been tough for actors who play action-heroes since 911. Most families have seen the real thing, a son, an uncle, a nephew or a dad.

Once you’ve seen the real thing, a pretty boy actor has no chance at being taken seriously.

I was thinking about this the other day. In WWII a lot of actors went into the service, and a fair number of them saw combat. They had a certain weight about them.

I can’t think of a single actor who enlisted after 911. There might have been one, but I can’t think of one.

Why Aren’t Americans Cast As Superheroes Anymore?

Two Words.

Chuck Norris.

Some people wear Superman pajamas. Superman wears Chuck Norris pajamas.

Chuck Norris and Superman once fought over a bet.The loser had to wear his underwear outside his pants.

When the Hulk gets mad, he turns into Chuck Norris.

Chuck Norris and Bruce Wayne once made a bet, the loser had to wear a bat costume and pretend he was a superhero.

Bruce Willis attempted to, but was rejected due to his age.

Can’t comment much about the specifics regarding the superhero genre and casting problems. But if I know ANYTHING, genuine manliness and masculinity is in extremely short supply in this faggoty culture of circa-2013 America.

You virtually have to go back to old, vintage films and tv-shows to encounter it. Dudes nowadays can work out at the gym all they want to, but they don’t act or comport themselves like real men. They sometimes try, but they don’t have that stoic confidence. There’s too much self-absorption, too much prissy emotionalism, too much bitchy sarcasm. Weak and unimpressive.
