Gen. Colin Powell calls for universal health care in the U.S.
Puget Sound Business Journal ^ | December 6, 2013 | Valerie Bauman

Former Secretary of State and longtime Republican Colin Powell is calling for a universal health care solution in the U.S. “We are a wealthy enough country with the capacity to make sure that every one of our fellow citizens has access to quality health care,” he said Thursday at a Seattle fundraiser for prostate cancer. “(Let’s show) the rest of the world what our democratic system is all about and how we take care of all of our citizens." The retired four-star general, a prostate cancer survivor, spoke at the Prostate Cancer Survivors Celebration Breakfast, organized by UW Medicine and the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center . Powell took the opportunity to share some of his own experiences and to publicly call for a health care solution similar to those in Canada, Japan and other countries that have a universal, single-payer system. In the case of his own cancer diagnosis, he recovered, thanks to what he described as universal health care offered through the U.S. military. “I am not an expert in health care, or Obamacare, or the Affordable Care Act, or however you choose to describe it, but I do know this: I have benefited from that kind of universal health care in my 55 years of public life,” Powell said. “And I don’t see why we can’t do what Europe is doing, what Canada is doing, what Korea is doing, what all these other places are doing.”

We are a wealthy enough country...

Not for long...

Colin Powell - another liberal who either is ignorant of - or has forgotten - how this country became great.

News Flash!! This republic didn't just spring up from the tall prairie grass, and we didn't just pick it off of the freedom tree.

The republic we have (even now in it's decline) is the result of generations of hard-fought freedom fighters holding fast to a sacred oath...

Maybe somebody should ask the general why he thinks we should entrust the health care of 330 million people with a government that had 3 years and a billion dollars and still couldn’t build a functional website.

Mr. Powell - you have no right to use government as an agent of force to steal the fruits of my labors in order to subsidize your failed social engineering schemes.

I always figured he voted for The Punk, but didn’t know he admitted it. But I remember him once refusing to say whether he voted for Bush in 2004.

That is another thing that irks the heck out of me... When people call Bill O’Reiley a Conservative, when what he really is is a poseur-populist with Narcissistic Personality Disorder, just like 0bama.

“We are a wealthy enough country"

Hey Colonel Asshat...This country is $17.6 TRILLION in debt. Maybe in your world, that is wealth, but here in the real world, that's poverty past the brink of bankruptcy.

He’s not a Republican. He supported the Obamabastard - twice.

Just another festering sore from the Bush Administration - BOTH of them.

I once thought Powell would be a good Republican President. I was completely mistaken. This was a good lesson for me and has made me more conservative in who I support in GOP primaries. There are some characteristics of any candidate that completely disqualify them from receiving my vote.

Colon is alive right now precisely because we don’t have universal health care.

Colon keep your mouth shut. With your silence everyone assumes your stupidity but when you open your mouth there is no need for any assumption.

I wonder if one of the NSA analysts have been keeping a file on der Fuehrer? Now THAT would be a far more interesting file to read...

>> I get so sick of people calling Powell a Republican, just because he worked for a Republican President. Powell has always refused to say what his party affiliation is, and who he voted for. <<

I agree. I'm sick and tired of the media calling this liberal a Republican. If Powell's a Republican, then anyone who ever attended a Bar Mitzvah must be Jewish.
