KNOXVILLE - Police arrested a 15-year-old West High School student on Monday morning for assaulting a teacher after he used a lighter to ignite her hair and shirt. According to witnesses, when the teacher, 23-year-old Gabriela Penalba (pictured above) turned her back to the class, a male student lit her hair and shirt on fire.

Won't do any good, unless every single student understands that there are immediate and severe consequences for bad behavior. For behavior of this sort, 500 Singapore-style lashes would be a good start.

The Founders never intended government or the public schools to be secular.
Failing that, school choice legislation so all parents can send their kids to school where their child can get a moral education.

That needs to be the unashamed answer whenever a leftist tries to argue that no values should be taught because not everyone has the same values.
My guess is this already is an alternative school. Most kids would fantasize, even bloviate/ threaten, but actually doing it in full view of other students is what got my attention. He either does not care what his peers think at all, or thinks he is acting to represent what they feel. That poor young lady. I was heartened to hear the students tried to put that fire out. If that was my wife, I would insist she transfer to another school. She was not trained for such warfare.
According to the article “The fire was put out before the teacher received burns to her skin.”
As if those were the only wounds she received. At 23, she was probably young enough and idealistic enough to think she could make a difference. My heart goes out to her, and if she walks backs into that classroom then she has bigger cujones than any member of Congress.
