White House Press Secretary Jay Carney made the unusual move of encouraging Republican senators Ted Cruz and Rand Paul to pursue the presidential nomination during his daily briefing Friday, even if his words were in jest. Carney was deflecting questions about the 2016 Democratic field when he volunteered that he thinks it would be awesome if those two Republicans entered the race.
Carney was avoiding a question from Fox News Ed Henry about Joe Bidens chances in 2016, given the revelation from the new book Double Down: Game Change 2012 suggesting President Obama considered replacing Biden with Hillary Clinton as his second-term running mate. Does the president believe the vice president would be a strong president?
Sure, Carney answered, adding that Obama picked Biden as his running mate for the right reason, which is that, if necessary, Vice President Biden to be president. But the press secretary was not about to announce an endorsement from Obama for the 2016 race, at least on the Democratic side. We can talk about the Republicans, Carney said. Thats pretty interesting.
Henry gladly took him up on the offer, immediately asking for Carneys thoughts on Cruz and Paul specifically.
I think they all ought to run, Carney said. It would be awesome.
Smell the fear.
It would hilarious watching the left go full blown bigot.
Carney’s mind must be an interesting place to live.
These MSNBC type Dems are terrified of what will happen in 2014 so they avoid talking about Obamacare and instead about ‘GOP extremists’ and 2016 to keep some libs watching.
FNC has agold mine with Obamacare now, no one is watching MSNBC.
The libs thought it was ‘awesome’ when Ronald Reagan got the nomination in 1980, too.
They must have something on Cruz if they are promoting him this early.
Ted Cruz/Sarah Palin 2016
Don’t fall for the little weasels lies. He wants the GOP to run another McCain or a Romney but he would never admit to it.
Good point. They thought "Bed Time For Bonzo" epitomized him instead of "The Gipper."
Except Michelle Obama during her “work out”. LMAO.
Rand Paul?
No, I don’t think I could vote for Rand Paul
Why do the Dems always feel the need to dictate to the Pubbies what candidates to run?
The first truth Carney has spoken as press sec!
I could certainly vote for him to deny Hillary Clinton the Presidency.
That being said, I would hope that Cruz would run and win the nomination.
Awww. Carney. Concern Troll is concerned. *rolls eyes*
Sorry, Ryan is too accommodating to the open border Statists.
Oh please Mr. Carney, please don’t throw the Republican party into the Ted Cruz briar patch! Anything but that!!!
And so the circular firing squad begins.
Because the GOPe let’s them and are afraid of the media.
