No, we won't hang you from the yardarm or keelhaul you. Twenty lashes with a Cat ‘o Nine Tails is acceptable.
Other things related to the colors:
1. Coming aboard ship. Salute the colors (aft). Salute the Officer of the Deck (OOD) and say: “Request permission to come aboard, sir.” Wait for “Permission Granted” and drop salute.
2. Departing ship. Salute the OOD and say, “Request permission to leave the ship.” Wait for “Permission granted” and then salute the colors aft as you leave.
“Now, station the Special Sea and Anchor Detail. Make all preparations for getting underway.”

It would have been designed sometime in the early 1960’s maybe under Kennedy’s watch. I remember the seal was painted into the bulkhead on forward the Hanger Bay. It was also on things like our cruise books, patches, etc.
