“It was Republicans that led the fight for civil rights – first in abolishing slavery, then in expanding equal rights for women, and then in fighting to end racial inequality. Republicans busted up the big trusts and fought against corporate monopolies. Republicans fought for environmental protection and against political patronage. Republicans ended the Vietnam War and won the Cold War without firing a shot.”

Sounds like the republicans have been the liberal’s answer to the republicans all along.

"We're going to be very aggressive and we're going to get in their faces."

Then cringe like scolded puppies if you get into the general and have to go up against Obama's gang. It wouldn't be "bipartisan" to be aggressive and get into a Democrat's face.

That bunch of clowns represents a danger to freedom, and they are expressly anti-conservative. This from a 2005 self-congratulatory piece ...

Welcome back! As we begin the new Congressional session there is much to update you on. We had a very successful campaign season. RMSP members saw victory in 13 of our 17 targeted races. We picked up two RMSP freshman in seats previously held by conservatives, and the seats we lost went to Democrats, proving the importance and value of moderate Republicans.
11/16/2005 FR Post - Bass calls for new GOP House leadership

I first became aware of this bunch in 2004. GEORGE SOROS FUNDING ARLEN SPECTER!

While they are technically Republicans, I view them as fascists and socialists. Their view of the role of government fits well with the Democrat Party platform, and I believe all of the RMSP members are social liberals, none is against abortion, for example.

His wife is a DEMOCRAT lobbyist...

“Every time I write a diary about Lyin’ Steve LaTourette, the republican representative in OH-14, someone almost always mentions in the comments about his marital issues. Here are some of favorites:

•He lied to his wife.

•He was screwing this lobbyist, and doing deals for her, to get laid.”

From Salon:

Susan LaTourette never moved to Washington with her husband when he was elected to the House of Representatives in the Republican sweep of 1994. Instead, she chose to stay at home, in suburban Madison, Ohio, with their children. Last October (2003), she said, she was startled to receive his telephone call to tell her “he had a girlfriend and wanted a divorce.”

Susan LaTourette told the Hill she never really knew where her husband lived in Washington. “I think Washington corrupts people,” she said. “He was a wonderful husband and father, the best I ever saw, until he went there. I told him I was trying to get him out of the dark side — all that power and greed and people kissing up to them all the time. Now he’s one of them. All they care about is getting reelected. I hate them all.”

But two sources close to Susan LaTourette, the congressman’s wife, have told Salon that the lobbyist girlfriend is Steven LaTourette’s former chief of staff, Jennifer Laptook, whose work as a vice president for the firm Van Scoyoc Associates consists of pushing the interests of various Ohio-based clients before the staff of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, on which LaTourette sits. He is also chairman of the Subcommittee on Economic Development, Public Buildings and Emergency Management.

The affair began when Laptook was on LaTourette’s staff. Immediately upon leaving his office in March 2003, she was hired for the lucrative business of influencing LaTourette’s committee. Touting her qualifications, the Van Scoyoc Web site states: “As chief of staff, Laptook was responsible for advising on all legislative issues, particularly those that came before the committees on which Congressman LaTourette serves. Laptook worked intimately with the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee staff, on which the congressman is a senior member.”

Rep. Steve LaTourette Slams Tea Party Criticism Of ‘Weak Moderate’ Romney: That’s ‘Crap’

November 8th, 2012

Ohio’s outgoing Rep. Steve LaTourette appeared on CNN Starting Point Thursday morning, where he spoke a bit about how the Republican party should shift its focus.

He thought the Tea Party Patriots’ assertion that “we got a weak moderate candidate” in Mitt Romney was complete “crap:”

The Republican party cannot be a national party if we give up the entire East Coast of the United States…. We don’t have any Republicans in New England. We don’t have any Republicans in the Mid-Atlantic states. We can’t continue to diss the Latino voters…. We have the right message on the finances. We have to get out of people’s lives, get out of people’s bedrooms and we have to be a national party, or else we’re going to lose.

He explained that his wife, a Democrat, had been very close to voting Republican… until the likes of Akin and Mourdoch opened their mouths to make comments about conception through rape.

Yep. Jim Geraghty on Arlen Specter & George Soros on National Review Online - April 14, 2004
The second-largest single donor to the Main Street Individual Fund, according to most recent information on Opensecrets.org, is George Soros. Yes, that George Soros, the one who compared the Bush administration to Nazi and Communist regimes, who has compared the Bush administration to George Orwell's 1984, called Bush's policies "Social Darwinist," who called defeating Bush in 2004 "the central focus of my life," and who donated $15.5 million to groups aiming to defeat Bush.

Mr. Goody two shoes who thinks Tea Party & Southern Republicans are “knuckledraggers” has a reason to be ‘bipartisan (he’s a crook)....

Steven C. LaTourette, a Republican, represented the 14th Congressional District of Ohio in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1995 to 2013. He retired in 2012. (map) LaTourette will now serve as the head of the Republican Main Street Partnership, a group of moderate and centrist members of the Republican Party. He will create a super PAC to ally with moderate Republicans. His wife (his former girlfriend, former chief of staff), Jennifer, will also join RMSP.

******

Papers filed in the Jack Abramoff case show that LaTourette wrote a letter to The General Services Administration on behalf of an Abramoff associate, and networked on Abramoff’s behalf with indicted Congressman Bob Ney.

LaTourette was asked to work with indicted Jack Abramoff co-conspirator David Safavian to pass a regulation change that might secure minority-owned small-business contracts for Indian tribes Abramoff represented.

According to an FBI document, Abramoff “sent an e-mail to Safavian’s home e-mail address containing a draft letter purportedly to be sent by at least two members of Congress to the Administrator of GSA.”

Extramarital Affair with Lobbyist

LaTourette became a controversial figure in the months following October 2003, when he telephoned his wife, still living in the Ohio, that he was having an affair with a lobbyist and was filing for divorce. The affair was publicized in 2003 by The Hill newspaper, and the online news magazine Salon reported in Oct. 2004 that LaTourette’s mistress was Jennifer Laptook, a former aide now working as a lobbyist for Van Scoyoc Associates, which lobbies LaTourette’s committee on a number of issues.

Cliff Schecter at Salon.com wrote, LaTourette “was blending into the woodwork as a Republican Party regular — not as extreme as some of his more partisan colleagues but acceptably conservative (the Christian Coalition recently rated his voting record 84 percent favorable) — when the revelation of his affair made him a poster boy for Republican “family values” hypocrisy.”

.....don’t you see they are playing you for suckers????

These republicrats hate my way of life. They hate my God. They hate me for standing up to them. They hate Sarah Palin and Ted Cruz.

The people getting played for suckers are the ones still registered as republicans. The party is FUBAR. It cannot be fixed or taken back. It must be left to wither on the vine.

Steve LaTourette, 49, carried his district in 2000 with 69 percent of the vote while Al Gore won it narrowly over George W. Bush. LaTourette has a centrist voting record and has criticized the conservative “true believers” of the GOP class of 1994.

The wife of Rep. Steve LaTourette (R-Ohio) said Monday that her husband of 21 years has asked her for a divorce after admitting he is involved with another woman, a Washington lobbyist.

“He called me on Friday and said he wants a divorce,” Susan LaTourette said in a telephone call from her workplace near the Cleveland suburb of Madison Village, where she, her husband and their four children live.

Susan LaTourette, who said she doesn’t know where her husband lives when Congress is in session, blamed the Washington culture for the breakup.

Susan LaTourette, 49, said the congressman “called [her] a few weeks ago to tell [her] he had a girlfriend and wanted a divorce.” She named the woman, whom she said was a lobbyist.
She said she urged her husband to seek marriage counseling and he indicated he would consider it. But on Friday, “he called me again and said, ‘I want a divorce. It’s over. Goodbye.’”

Asked why she was going public with her marital problems, she replied: “Because I want to get him back. It’s very painful but I just wanted people to be aware of this. Most women who get treated like this can’t do anything about it, but I can.”

Ex-Rep. Steve LaTourette of Ohio to direct lobbying unit

Jan 8, 2013 - Former congressman Steven LaTourette of Ohio will run a law firm’s new lobbying subsidiary in the nation’s capital along with his (NEW) wife (former girlfriend, chief of staff)...

•By: Associated Press

CLEVELAND - Former congressman Steven LaTourette of Ohio will run a law firm’s new lobbying subsidiary in the nation’s capital along with his wife.

The move was announced Tuesday by the McDonald Hopkins law firm, which has offices in Chicago, Cleveland, Columbus, Detroit, Miami and West Palm Beach, Fla.

McDonald Hopkins Government Strategies will have offices overlooking Capitol Hill.

LaTourette, a Republican from Lake County northeast of Cleveland, served 18 years in Congress. He didn’t seek re-election last year in frustration with political gridlock.

LaTourette’s wife, Jennifer, has worked for a Washington lobbying firm for the past 10 years.
