In an opinion piece in The Week today, Bill Scher added his voice to the growing chorus in the media pushing to get Boehner to cave on immigration.
Scher clearly lays out the new media mission: get Boehner to fold again on Obamas next agenda item, immigration reform.
Many presume the Republican House is a black hole sucking President Obama's second-term agenda into oblivion. But the list of Boehner's past retreats offers a glimmer of hope, especially to advocates of immigration reform. Though it has languished in the House, an immigration overhaul passed with bipartisan support in the Senate, and was given a fresh push by Obama in the aftermath of the debt limit deal.
Scher spends most of the piece pondering a Bully Boehner strategy, asking, What makes Boehner cave? ... Is there a sequence of buttons you can push that forces Boehner to relent? The magic button, Scher concludes, is what he euphemistically calls pragmatism--by which he clearly means desperation:
Here's where immigration advocates have a window of opportunity to appeal to Boehner's party pragmatism. Their pitch: The best way to put this disaster behind them is for Republicans to score a big political victory. You need this.
Thats right, the big political victory would be to pass... an amnesty bill?
Scher wraps up the piece with a final exhortation to his fellow pro-amnesty mediaites:
But he won't do it without a push. A real good push.
Boenher is a died in the wool socialist no different then any democrat in congress, e like McConnel will get a payout for his state....
Cave? Are you kidding, he has always wanted illegals to be legal with a stroke of a pen
Why not? Bully Roberts to Cave on ObamaCare worked a charm.
You know, at least Ronald Reagan started as a great actor and then became a political figure. (Great one at that) these SOB’s think that they have acting skills! Sheesh!
I suppose we will stick with Bohner until the complete decimation of America is accomplished.
I find it difficult to believe that the GOP would cave on amnesty, knowing that the base is already enraged and ready to vote them out. Look at Rubio’s collapsing polling numbers since his support for amnesty.
Then again, there is a reason why the GOP is called “The Stupid Party”.
It's all just a smokescreen. These career politicians are walking in lockstep behind Obama, just as surely as the Democratic caucus. There is no principle or integrity in the establishment leadership -- period. They are simply dipping their snouts in the trough as far as they can.
Boehner got an ovation from colleagues after caving. Many of those who voted “No” on the end to the shutdown still applauded Boehner. He is definitely not caving on immigration: he already favors open immigration; hence, no caving this time.
People in OH for sure are convinced that Boehner will bring a pony out of the pile of manure that Reagan joked about in his old parable.
You have to assume that on any given day Tammy Faye is prepared to cave at the first sign of trouble.
Boehner will cave.
It’ in his DNA. Caver.

...The Republican Party must embrace more legal immigration.
Unfortunately, like many of the major debates in Washington, immigration has become a stalemate-where both sides are imprisoned by their own rhetoric or attachment to sacred cows that prevent the possibility of a balanced solution.
Immigration Reform will not occur until Conservative Republicans, like myself, become part of the solution. I am here today to begin that conversation.
Lets start that conversation by acknowledging we arent going to deport 12 million illegal immigrants.
If you wish to work, if you wish to live and work in America, then we will find a place for you...
This is where prudence, compassion and thrift all point us toward the same goal: bringing these workers out of the shadows and into being taxpaying members of society.
Imagine 12 million people who are already here coming out of the shadows to become new taxpayers.12 million more people assimilating into society. 12 million more people being productive contributors.
[but hes not in favor of amnesty, snicker, definition of is is]
Its not my idea, but read it on another thread. Why doesnt the GOP get out in front of this and announce that they will only take up any kind of discussion on immigration once the current “Laws of the Land” that are currently on the books are enforced. Instead of letting the media and dems fire the first shots in this, they need to be proactive. I can always dream anyway.
Can someone with knowledge of House and Republican caucus rules explain how Boehner might be removed as speaker, if the conservatives had the votes within the caucus to do so? I am curious if and how it might be done.
Hey Obama won the election, so we have to let him bankrupt America, control our bodies, take our liberties, and give us new fellow citizens. What can you do, darnit.
Oh, and I like their displaying their Mexican Superchicken in the United States, too. That's a real "good-neighbor" policy for you.
People need to understand that this stuff traces back to Frida Kahlo, Diego Rivera, and their house guest Leon Trotsky; and also to the Peruvian APRA, a nativist-socialist group who, in exile (kicked out by the dictator Leguia), settled in Mexico City and repopularized Indian claims against European-Americans. Their anti-white racism has been spread in the U.S. by the Aztlanists, who are Apristas in everything but name.
Different continent, same game.
