The GOP Civil War Just Exploded Messily Into The Public

Republican divisions over the party's strategy in budget battles exploded into the public sphere Wednesday evening. In feelings that have been brewing privately for some time, House Republicans let their anger out at Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas). And they accused him of surrendering on the plan to defund the Affordable Care Act (AKA: Obamacare). Earlier Wednesday, Cruz made a statement that applauded House Republicans for proposing a spending bill that strips funding for Obamacare, a crusade that Cruz and Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah) have led over the past few months. But Cruz also conceded that Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid "has the votes" in the Senate to strip the defunding language from the continuing-resolution bill (meaning that the Senate could never pass the defunding bill). And he called on House Republicans to "stand firm, hold their ground, and continue to listen to the American people." In other words, he called on the House GOP to shoulder all of the burden of the defunding fight — the fight of which he has been the face. That concession, before the fight has even begun, enraged House conservatives. Rep. Sean Duffy (R-Wis.) issued perhaps the most terse statement. "House Republicans have stood firm. We have voted to defund, repeal & delay Obamacare dozens of times. It is time for Sens. Cruz & Lee to show they can hold the line against Senate Democrats," Duffy said. "Let's hope they do not surrender before the fight even begins."

I hope he does stuff it and cause the government to ‘shut down’. The truth is if we are to take our country back we need to be able to stand and tell the truth. Now is the time for all good men...... If we do not do it who will?

This is how it is won by conservatives in the House:

* Pass the CR to fund all of federal government with exception of Obamacare

* Senate rejects CR; media and Obama chime in that House is forcing a government shutdown

* House holds firm and passes CR again but withholds any funding for Obamacare

* Senate rejects; Cruz speaks and roars that funding is there to fund all of federal government with exception of Obamacare

* Obama withholds payments to military and to state block grants and to medicare and social security while blaming republicans and right wing radical extremists in House

* Media chimes in that seniors are suffering and dying, EBT cards are declined, people starving, etc. Big sobfest but real pain

* House again passes CR to fund all of federal government with exception of Obamacare; Cruz roars that funding is authorized but democrats insist on demanding funding for Obamacare which House has said will never be authorized on their watch.

* Media begins to unravel as great suffering takes hold and American public finally wake up to democrats playing games with lives and health of millions of Americans.

* Finally polls show great anger directed to democrats and to Obama

* Obama tries for compromise

* House stands firm.

* Obama doesn’t know what to do. His poll ratings sink lower than GW Bush’s in his final year. Senate reelection polls show breaking advantage for republicans.

* Boehner hints at compromise.

* House conservatives rail against Boehner and stand firm.

* Obama agrees to fund government without Obamacare for 60 days while he organizes media and ground support to damage House conservatives

* Obama continues to fund government without Obamacare but ramps up campaign to blame suffering, starvation and deaths on conservatives.

* House stands firm

* 2014 election becomes a rout for republicans

* Cruz becomes Senate majority leader

I will pray for each and every one of these events to happen every step of the way! Sounds good to me, achievable!! We should all mail these exact steps to every member of the GOP, there is a path, if you don’t quit!

Doesn’t that ALONE show you how BROKEN we are as a Government, Nation and People?

It’s THEM against US. I didn’t say I agreed with Senator Johnson...

Please don't get me wrong Diana ... I think Senator Johnson is probably better than most, CERTAINLY better than the two asshats we have in IL (Kirk and Sack of Durbin)

I just get frustrated that those that are ELECTED to serve, specially someone like Johnson who was a tea party favorite,, don't understand how the system was setup and designed to work.

So I wasn't being smarmy or sarcastic when I asked you to copy and paste my post into an email to him -- it was a plea to help educate Senator Johnson!

Who knows, maybe he'll take a stand!

Thanks for the thoughtful reply, Ditto for me on Cruz. I voted for him over that statist Dewhurst in the primary and, next to Reagan, it was the best vote I ever cast. Cruz is smart, articulate, savvy AND uncompromisingly conservative. I’ll follow Cruz to the gates of hell if need be.

The jobs issue makes sense to drive the narrative, O has a very poor record, Obama’s palace guards (aka the media) would have a harder time twisting it against the repubs in the house, EVERYONE cares about it...

The left-wing Democrat vermin were trying to upset the effort to defund Obamacare by bad mouthing Senator Ted Cruz, saying Cruz is abandoning the effort to defund Obamacare!!! LIES!!! Senators Mike Lee & Ted Cruz were on “Hannity” this evening....fighting the wnning fight!!! The Lee/Cruz petition is on fire, growing right now!!!

Please send a blurb out to all you can once more, urging them to each get four folks to sign and endorse the Lee/Cruz petition to defund Obamacare right now, TODAY!!! We are just about at 1,500,000 signatures/endorsements and climbing rapidly!!! We need to shoot for 5,000,000 signatures. Please take action right NOW!!! This is extremely important!!!

“The House may well vote to strip out kenyacare funding. The Senate will restore the language. The Reconciliation conference will restore the language and both houses will then pass the CR with the funding intact. The Republicans will say, “Well, we tried,” which will be a lie. They will have tokened.”

Well, in a perverse way, if the RINO/RAT Cabal prevails, all may not be lost, because what the moron voters in this country need a lot more pain before they will see Obama and the RATs for what they are. So bring on FUBOcare and let’s have it be the driving force for the economy tanking between now and the 2014 elections. Hate to see good folks suffer along with the idiots, but it may be the best way out of FUBOCare and FUBO himself.

Excellent point. While I agree with a lot of what is being said here we must not get sidetracked with other issues, important as they are, at this time.

We won a major battle...a BIGGIE...but now we need to concentrate on slimey turn coats that are lurking and slithering thru the halls of congress.

Take the win and watch our flanks, push PR and target our enemies. Protect our allies and keep fighting.

We are doing EXACTLY what the American people want!

Watch tomorrow who comes out against us....this will prove my point.

"But Cruz also conceded that Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid "has the votes" in the Senate to strip the defunding language from the continuing-resolution bill (meaning that the Senate could never pass the defunding bill)."

Why is this surprising to anyone?

Freepers, Tea Partiers, and keyboard warriors who refuse to believe that the Democrats control the Senate and the White House are divorced from reality.

They listen to Sean Hannity and Sen Rand Paul make love to each other on the air, and they believe the tripe.

Michael Medved and others were correct: those who have been misleading the public about what the House can really do (and cannot do) are doing so for their own ratings, ego, or political aspirations.

If people want to live on Planet Fantasy, fine. But many of those same people don't want their Social Security, unemployment, Medicare, or other government check to be affected in iota, just "everybody else's" check.

One thing the House can do is force the Senate Democrats to go on record casting votes that will cost them support at the polls. They need to be careful to time it so that it's fresh in people's minds when the time comes.

So it went something like this:

Cruz to House: pass a CR defunding Obamacare
House to Cruz: no, there are not the votes in the Senate

Next: apply pressure to House

Now:

House: ok we’ll pass a CR that defunds
Cruz: And it doesn’t matter as there are not the votes in the Senate

See, this is why I’m wanting to drop out of politics.

I think the last realistic chance to deal with this was the last CR. The Republicans listened to their money sources and eagerly passed it. Now I suspect they will pass it again but will try to give themselves a little cover. They will be hiding behind a large glass window.Too few people will be looking toward the window, though. Even if many of them then lose the next election, they will financially fixed for life. Losing an election after voting “correctly” is much more remunerative than voting wrong and staying in office.
