Power grid vulnerabilities are finally garnering some attention by government officials.

An electrical grid joint drill simulation is being planned in the United States, Canada and Mexico. Thousands of utility workers, FBI agents, anti-terrorism experts, governmental agencies, and more than 150 private businesses are involved in the November power grid drill.

The SHIELD Act, which is stalled in Congress, is the first serious piece of legislation in many years to attempt to address the vulnerabilities of the power grid in.

Yes, I know and we have a hook up to Mexico to sell them our “extra” electricity.
Re-read the ERCOT 'rules and regs'; any power crossing our borders MUST be repaid in kind ... OTHERWISE the feds get involved. That is the reason Texas is and has stayed out from under FERC control ...

There are a couple of other DC "tie-lines" besides the one with Mexico. They all work the same way (repayment in kind IOW by electricity/power flow flowing back the OTHER way)

I’ll take that bet. A couple winters ago, our power company decided to randomly cut power for a few minutes here and there on one of the coldest days.
There were rolling blackouts in the entire ERCOT-regulated (Texas) system on account of natural gas shortages AND several other plants went off-line due to the cold ... There are three or four "power delivery entities" (including Oncor) and even more independent generators or producers of 'power' ..

A few winters ago in Texas, there was a large electrical outage (I don't recall if it was the one caused by all the windmills becoming becalmed or a different one) and all of a sudden the natural gas quit flowing.
There were several issues, including generation plants that 'quite' (had issues) when the cold hit ... natural gas issues arose with delivery/high demand issues ... the loss of generation plants forced rolling blackouts in the state, a forced 'load shedding' move. If generation can't meet load frequency drops, and eventually "under frequency relays" in the system will trip.

This exercise they are going to do includes all the states and Canada and Mexico so they aren’t going to leave out Texas. Hussein wants all of us - a pox on him.

Folks, this is getting ominous.

Last month, the NYTObama ran an article about the grid "stress test" they want to run. Now we read this.

Just last week, Aunt Janet warned us in her farewell address that A massive and “serious” cyber attack on the U.S. homeland is coming, and a natural disaster — the likes of which the nation has never seen — is also likely on its way.

Come autumn, we may be in for a wild ride.

God (that is to say our Federal bureaucrats) forbid that a power company actually, oh, I dunno, make money selling power elsewhere.

Does anyone in charge have common sense???

Yes. And their actions do make perfect sense, if you realistically assess them with THEIR goals in mind.

Russia said if we attack them, they don’t have the military force to defeat us. However, they do have nukes and will not hesitate to use them....

Given we are running around like schizophrenic, paranoid, global military kooks on steroids...like we own everyone and everything and don’t know what we are doing and are loyal to no one (not even Americans), I don’t think there would be a lot of crying over a nuke exploded over the US to send us into the dark ages.

I think the Left here would love it. I think Obammy wants it.

In November, which can be the teeth of winter for about half the county.

What could possibly go wrong?

I wonder if Obama has been communicating with Kim Jung Un.

Too bad we can’t see the White House visitor logs...

It almost seems like they’re expecting a northern hemisphere catastrophe, which is what one of the EMP experts is saying that North Korea has the capability of doing. Russia, China, and North Korea on one team, and the US thumbing our nose at that team by arming the Al Qaeda-affiliated opposition in Syria while framing Assad as if he was using chemical weapons...

So what makes Janet Napolitano think that a natural disaster of unheard-of proportion is coming soon to a street near us?

What's planned next? 'Jihadist Nuke Drill Simulation Day'? (gee -- I hope I fit under my nice safe desk just like when I was a kid)

Add this to the power grid stress test and Big Sis' disaster warning. Yes, the ill winds are blowing.

Think about when the electrical grid infrastructure was really built-out in much of the country - it’s been post WWII in many areas, and that means the average age of these transformers is 50 years or more, which is their design life. So much of the grid is living on borrowed time as it is...

Good observations. But are you suggesting this drill is necessary? How does a continental "drill" including the participation of Feebs and Reich Security remedy our shortcomings?

It was some months ago when Homeland Security did a test after they had the power to shut down every TV and radio in the nation. After the test, they said they had to do a bit of adjusting, but it will work now.

The reason they gave for taking over everything (except ham radio, they couldn’t get that), is to be able to give us directions when something terrible happens. So, they shut everything off and Hussein will tell us what to do. Will they turn it all back on?

That's just it -- we've handed the keys to the House over to thief, a murderer, and a mad man. NO ONE believes ANY thing these reptilian subversives say or do. Your cynicism is well-founded when we know perfectly well the goal of the Alinsky-ites is take down the entire system. So...WILL and WHEN will the electric be turned back on?

This is a "drill" designed to:

a) gauge the degree of panic of the general AND specific demos of the populace

b) gauge the degree of murder, mayhem, and chaos

c) gauge the ability of the Reich Forces to organize and contain the sheeple and chaos

d) tag "hot-spots" of independent power sources and "rebel opposition"

e) play Psy Op with the serfs.

f) declare 'Martial Law' in certain places

Would any of us be surprised if the original "Drill" date of November was "re-scheduled" for February?

After I thought I made out intensions clear, we are still being pressured to get a smart meter. They don’t give up easily.

No they don't; in my case the pressure was to convert my already curbside hi-tech water meter to the "Smart" version.
