Before death, Fort Hood shooter faces long appeals

FORT HOOD, Texas—If Nidal Hasan plans to welcome a death sentence as a pathway to martyrdom, the rules of military justice won't let him go down without a fight—whether he likes it or not. The Army psychiatrist was sentenced Wednesday to die for the 2009 Fort Hood shooting rampage that killed 13 people and wounded more than 30. But before an execution date is set, Hasan faces years, if not decades, of appeals. And this time, he won't be allowed to represent himself.

"If he really wants the death penalty, the appeals process won't let it happen for a very long time," said Joseph Gutheinz, a Texas attorney licensed by the United States Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces. "The military is going to want to do everything at its own pace. They're not going to want to let the system kill him, even if that's what he wants."

I would charge him for his prison stay. 300,000 dollars should be enough.

I know we have eliminated these kinds of places long ago..

..but a fitting to Mr Hassan would be for him to be in keep him in Dantes' cell at Chateau d'If with rats, in darkness, without a Koran, no hope of ever being released & a 12" TV w/ access only to TBN. Lets find out once and for all how strong is his belief in Islam.

I would kick in a couple of dollars a month to keep him there.

...death by lethal injection is too much of an escape for him...

..prolonged... hard, painful & humiliating life is what will get the attention of other people of the same persuasion.

“stick Hasan in a windowless special needs cell in Leavenworth death row & leave him there like a potted plant, tended to by masked anonymous caregivers.”

Are you kidding?

Like the terrorists in Guantanamo, I’m sure Hasan will have a nice air-conditioned cell, with a window, TV, books, and especially a Koran, along with a prayer-rug provided for him.

He will likely keep getting his fat salary too...saved up to be given to some Islamic “charity” no doubt. And of course he will continue to be allowed to grow his beard (contrary to Army regulations) as to cut it would be to persecute his “religion”...

Meanwhile the casualties and their families will continue to suffer without normal war-time pay or purple-heart benefits...as our government pretends the attack was merely “workplace violence,” all so Mr. Obama won’t have to admit this was an Islamic terrorist attack.

That’s not enough.

He’ll go through about 15 years worth of appeals at about an average of $50,000 per inmate per year. That’s about $750,000 not including the attorney fees.

Charge his family a million.

Amendment VI to the US Constitution: “In all criminal prosecutions, the accused shall enjoy the right to a speedy and public trial,. . . “

We should be considerate of the convicted murderer’s rights under the Constitution he hates. I suggest the appeals court process his appeal next week, the court superior to the appeals court the following week and the Supreme Court the week after. By respecting his right to a speedy trial it should be possible to execute him within 90 days.

One of the major problems with the death penalty as a deterrent in this country is the length of the appeals process. Accelerate the appeals process to 6 months or less in death penalty cases and some criminals might just reconsider the crime they are about to commit.

All of his military enablers - all the way to the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs - should have to be incarcerated with him on death row - being freed only after the execution is complete. I bet that would speed things up a bit.

In military trials the appeals go to the Commander in Chief.

He will be commuted.

BTW I agree with your course of action, but we simply as a country will not do it. Nor will 0 allow it.

Christians do not behave as the enemy does. While all he should receive is speedy appeals, what ever is on the menu, not special foods, and medical care, that is all we should be providing. TERRORIST could also wave all appeals! :-)

And 0 could speed up the appeals with pressure on the brass. he will leave it to the next GOP PREZ though so he does not get into ill repute with his muz buddies or say it will cause unrest in the ME.

I just hope all his pay and benefits were forfeited along with all his other prizes.

Sew him in a pig carcass douse it in pig blood and let him rot. Add a pack of Rottweiler dogs in the room for entertainment.

Filthy mooselimbs.

Dear Leader Obamuslim will never sign a death warrant while he is in the WH. Ditto for any Democrat who may replace him.
