White people are products of their own whitewashed, sanitized environment. Black people have been systematically excluded from white neighborhoods. Black stories rarely surface in popular culture. The history of race in high school textbooks has been boiled down to a handful of bedtime stories about Jackie Robinson and Rosa Parks. Try to tap into the average white person's feelings on race and you won't necessarily find feelings of hate and antipathy. You just won't find much of anything, no fully formed or well-considered thoughts about race of any kind. There's nothing really there. Even white people who want black friends don't know where to start.

I’ve never had that experience. In fact, a number of Black friends I have share the same feelings I have about race issues.
Self-loathing white guilters who are desperate to prove to blacks they're one of the "good" ones. "And the black people will like ME! I just know they will!"

Also when I worked in Seattle, one of my black supervisors told me when she first moved there from DC she was offended at how black folks talked to white folks and got along with each other. She said in DC it is very segregated (I took this to mean this came from both sides.) My comment to her was "that is very sad. I am glad you got over it."
So true. I saw a study a few years back that basically said that often black folks judge the safety of someone on behavior. Meaning it doesn’t matter what race whereas many white folks denied their fear of a person they sensed through behavvior was dangerous if they were black. So even if there was legitimate fear often it was denied because of the whole white guilt thang. Just stupid.

Had a black “acquaintances” I worked with in a camp environment (We lived and worked together). When they communicated with someone other than a black, they were as articulate as anyone else but when they talked to each other literally heard; “Blahgahaaflezzle mingah ningah flazbah ha GAH DAAAAM! buzzah maningah cuz muh fuh sayin sh!t like blizzah cram flangin munga naz GAH DAAAAAM! Huh! Huh! Huh! Huh! Keeek-keek-keek!....”
So I was never certain which persona I could be friends with. Nor did find anything I could identify with as a basis for a friendship to begin with.
Update: Been there done that a couple years ago, no improvement. You're exactly right, they be pretty much conditioned to hate whitey w/o cause.
No. You mistook my post to you as personal criticism of you. It wasn’t meant to be at all. In essence, I was agreeing with you because yours was the first post on the thread that DIDN’T play into the bait game. I am sorry if you thought it was personal. Truly.
And yes, I was pretty sick and had taken a whole handful of meds for pain and stuff, but thought the point was clear. I think you said something about the libs giving lip service, e.g, some.one of my best friends us/are black. while you had been walking the walk all along. Ant that is really the way it is out there most of the time.

I grew up with many blacks in my town and we all got along, friends, teammates, schoolmates, etc.
I don’t think any of us gave a second thought to skin color.
Now the blacks from stateside, most of those folks had HUGE chips on their shoulders and they self-segregated and isolated themselves from us locals.
Many of the blacks I served with in the military were typically solid folks, good natured and salt of the earth. Friends with many of them still.
I’ve been the only white guy at numerous black functions and have always been well received. At nearly all these functions the black attendees were overwhelmingly Caribbean. From my experience, both Caribbean born and African born black people are generally less adversarial to white people than American born black people. And, of course, the stigma of being more adversarial does not apply to all American born black people.
Yup. Why don't white academia and limousine liberals live in Camden, Detroit or Baltimore if they REALLY want to prove their point? Ga'head. Hangin' out with Oprah and TV blacks doesn't count.
