The video is interesting. I would *not* have mentioned a pressure cooker. Still, it is a good illustration of what to expect and how to act.

I give the police pretty good marks for no violence, reasonably polite actions, and no arrest. The site has the video.

Force multiplier at least 25 to 1, or was it more? And the helicopters? Interesting.

Kudos for the calmness. They probably had him ready to pick off at the word, is why.

Taking a picture of public property or legally carrying a gun... which part of this is illegal?

I disagree with the approach here...what was the guy trying to prove?

I’m not going to open carry even if its legal...why?

Us good guys will be going “gray” soon, no sense painting a bulls-eye on your/our forehead.

I thought he did great, considering that was his first time.

I’m sure he’ll do it again, and I approve 100%.

BE the change you want.

Good for him and great job on standing firm. If more Americans insisted on their rights, this would be a freer country.

Well, yeah, but we’re still not a police state, because no children’s dogs got shot.

Did he have a dog? Was it shot?

Yes, let’s all curl up on the ground, cover our heads and hope our “political masters” don’t beat us too hard for daring to believe we have such petty things as rights.

I think that — related to this story — is an elephant in the room: Namely, Profiling, or, rather, perhaps, the lack thereof.

Since police are allegedly not allowed to profile, they are trained to do as the TSA does in airports — to treat us all as criminals by default.

If I were a cop, and if profiling were allowed, I would be much more concerned if the individual taking the photos appeared to be of Middle Eastern origin, as opposed to this cracker, er, Caucasian.

That said, what he did was legal.

Does anyone in here really get that people in AZ really do walk around with guns on their hips, if they so choose? I have been there and seen it — and, yes, it is a bit of a shock to see the first time one encounters it. (Problem is, clearly not ENOUGH people exercise this right in AZ or in other states where open carry is permitted.)

As far as I know there is not legal prohibition in AZ for carrying a camera and photographing public buildings while simultaneously legally carrying openly on your hip.

Also, do people in here get that, while the Sheriff of Maricopa County (Joe Arpaio) is a true conservative, the mayor, and city government apparatus in Phoenix is L-I-B-E-R-A-L? That flavors their approach to how they do business, I suspect!

Video has a tenancy to subdue/restrain agents of the government.

I would not have given a false name either. No use giving them possible valid excuses to have “suspicion”.

Am I the only one who can’t load the video, or the entire website? I only get a half of a picture at the top of my screen.

"And there you have the reason why police are always demanding to see people’s identification even though the people are not breaking the law. It gives them a hope that if they run your name through their system, they will find a bench warrant and have an excuse to arrest you."

30 years ago you failed to pay a parking ticket. With fine & fee, that'll be 30 years and $20K.

The night I took this picture I was on the fort green with a tripod set up. I sensed something behind me and saw a park ranger sneaking up with his hand over his gun outlined against the streetlight.

He wanted to know what I was doing!!!!

I thought it was obvious!

Wife and i are in Bismark N.D.
Last evening we went over to look at the very ugly state capital at about dusk.
We drove up this long drive then stopped to take a couple photos.
No tourists were anywhere but a plain cloths cop wearing gym shorts an tee shirt with a gun under his shirt very quickly came over to challenge us.
Just taking a picture there pal.
No, we are not terrorists just tourist which you guys obviously don’t get too many around here cause ya sure don’t know how to treat them.
