Wishful thinking on the war on terror {WaPo editorial]
The Washington Post ^ | August 6, 2013

Mr. Obama is right to worry about the corrosive effect, for example on civil liberties, of perpetual war. But like all wars, this one will end only if one party is defeated or both agree to lay down their weapons. Neither appears likely any time soon, and the president’s eagerness to disengage, while understandable and in sync with U.S. public opinion, may in the end lengthen the conflict. His hope of fighting the bad guys as antiseptically as possible, with drone strikes and a minimal presence, may prove as forlorn as President Clinton’s similar effort in the 1990s, when the equivalent weapon at his disposal was cruise missiles.

While Mr. Obama is also right that military tools aren’t enough in a conflict like this, his promise of “patiently supporting transitions to democracy in places like Egypt and Tunisia and Libya” through non-military means — the proper strategy — is not being kept. The resulting vacuum will be filled, and not to the United States’ liking.

I’m not looking forward to that pile tipping over because we appear to be under it.

or maybe the entire WaPo editorial board knows it is out of a job and decides to publish a real op-ed

Ya know, the libs can't help themselves from praising Obama’s policies because not a single “large scale” attack on the US has occurred on his watch

However, we would have had a downed airliner on a Christmas Day over Detroit and obama and his $hundred billion TSA had NOTHING to do with stopping it.

It was passengers aboard who tackled the underwear bomber and stopped the attack.

The Boston marathon bombing was only a “small” attack because the 2 terrorists- who were OFF THE OBAMA FBI/CIA/DHS grid - chose fairly small and localized weapons for their ied attack. If they had chosen a dirty bomb, maybe that would be a “big attack”= they certainly had the latitude to be flaming radicals ignored by US intelligence

The 2010 attempted IED attack in Times Square was thwarted not by obama or his $hundred BILLION DHS/TSA/CIA or FBI- but by 2 NYC street vendors who saw smoked coming from the vehicle

Lets just give credit where it is due
We haven't suffered a large attack thanks to obama’s dumb luck, and thanks to the vigilance of the American people- mostly the type of hard working taxpaying suckers subjected to NSA surveillance, IRS abuse and TSA thug searches when they try to travel

No, this isn’t Bezos. The comment by don-o about a tipping point is correct. When you have ongoing problems, like this administrations non-war on terror, and the resulting firestorm in the Middle East, the liberal media can only cover up things for so long.

Iraq is sliding into chaos, Afghanistan, Syria and Libya too. The administration was actively pushing Egypt into the arms of terrorists and has been arming Al Qaeda in Syria. As much as this administration wants to paint them as peaceful and freedom loving, the ordinary Muslim has no concept of democracy and tolerance. The only time there has been peace (relatively speaking) is when someone has forced it on them.

The mid-east is going up in flames and Obama’s do-nothing policy is no longer defensible. His allies, like the Post, are starting to run for cover.

So why isn’t the rest of the world as threatened as we are that they are killing each other? Together they don’t have a world class military anything.

The war on drugs, the war on poverty, the war on terror.... Are we supposed to win these things? Are we even supposed to tell the truth about these things? It doesn’t seem like it. How many mosques have been built in the US since 911? How much have Muslim populations increased in the US and Europe? As for winning the war on terror by spreading Democracy in the world of Islam.... Islamic Democracy isn’t an oxymoron, but it is pointless.

The new world order “financial oligarchy” is all about perpetual war.

Perpetual war does not come from Democrats or Republicans.

WaPo is a nwo paper, one where it’s owners and the CIA share figuratively incestuous relationships.

The Wall-Street/Threadneedle Street control of the leadership of CIA/MI6 has been in place since the former created the latter.

Research the history of WaPo ownership and all the relationshiops and events that have transpired. It’s impossible to “get” what’s going on with today’s ownership if this is the first time one has ever thought about it and one is ignorant of history.

"“there have been no large-scale attacks on the United States” since 9/11"

I think Hasan counts a a significant attack.

Pardon, but I think God's blessing has a lot to do with it.

Agreed, nobama is dumb. Disagree: he's not lucky, just thinks he is.

A war on terror is an impossibility. Terror is a tactic as old as mankind. Until we stop playing with words, we will continue to see our government strip us of our rights in the name of protecting us, and the terror attacks will continue.

A war implies a defined enemy and an objective to destroy them. Terror is never going away.

Bump. The “War on Terror” and the “War on Poverty” have had equal success.

Yep. Even tho the lead sentence in every paragraph is "Obama has reason to..." or the like, they blast him further down in the 'graph. Nice to see, let's read WaPo diligently while this trend lasts.

We haven't suffered a large attack thanks to obama’s dumb luck, and thanks to the vigilance of the American people- mostly the type of hard working taxpaying suckers subjected to NSA surveillance, IRS abuse and TSA thug searches when they try to travel

I don't believe BarryO has dumb luck, but hardworking taxpaying suckers are carrying his water, as you say. Good on them/us. An active citizenry engaged in its own survival. Just hoping this survival level of living can once again become a prosperous, happy life style for all of us.
