It will be interesting to learn, someday, exactly how much Florida spent in time and tax dollars, only to lose its case against George Zimmerman.
Now that Zimmerman has been acquitted of all charges, the state may have to pay up even more.
Florida statute 939.06(1) reads: A defendant in a criminal prosecution who is acquitted or discharged is not liable for any costs or fees of the court or any ministerial office, or for any charge of subsistence while detained in custody. If the defendant has paid any taxable costs, or fees required in the case, the payment of such costs shall be refunded to the defendant.
During a Saturday night press conference after the verdict, Zimmermans defense attorney, Mark OMara, told reporters he will pursue sanctions against the state for what he said were violations during the discovery process.

What about all those donations that he received from people? Does he get to keep those since he is getting government assistance for his legal fees?
GZ can keep my twenty bucks. He has earned it being the whipping boy for us all.
That is nice and you are right. You gave more than I did although I did give a small donation. I was just wondering....you know how the government is. They might just demand that money.
I didn’t donate any money to the defense fund, however, I did keep him in my prayers. I hope he gets a huge settlement from all those who deserved to be sued -he is going to need it because I doubt that he will be able to be employed ever again.
I have no idea if the govt’t will shake him down for money but without working all this time and being in hiding, donations or not, I don’t know how they have managed.
Z’s expenses for this trial went way, way beyond anything that will be recovered from the state.
Doesn’t say anything about costs of counsel.
Not sure if he gets to keep it, but I consider it a “George Zimmerman change-name-ane-relocate fund.”
He needs about $250K to go disappear somewhere.
They will now use the IRS on him.
possibly the EPA for the hazardous bio-waste from his bleeding skull and the damage to the grass
And, he can't trust the government's protection program to do it for him, even though they were happy to hide Sammy "the Bull" Gravano, and similar upstanding citizens.
This should really come out of Angela Corey’s pocket.
I know where he could get a little piece of land in the country and would welcome him as a neighbor.
Nor costs for his expert witnesses.
Any “government assistance for his legal fees” will come from a yet-to-be-filed lawsuit for malicious prosecution. That headline is premature and speculative — it is in fact a lie.
He should get many times that amount from NBC alone. And then he needs to get out and move to a more civilized country.
