Sweden has the highest rape rate in Europe, author Naomi Wolf said on the BBC's Newsnight programme recently.
Is it true? Yes. The Swedish police recorded the highest number of offences - about 63 per 100,000 inhabitants - of any force in Europe, in 2010. The second-highest in the world.
This was three times higher than the number of cases in the same year in Sweden's next-door neighbour, Norway, and twice the rate in the United States and the UK. It was more than 30 times the number in India, which recorded about two offences per 100,000 people.
The thing is, the number of reported rapes has been going up in Sweden - it's almost trebled in just the last seven years.

Six Muslim teens receive community service for gang raping a 15-year-old girl in Tensta, Sweden
What a horrible place.
The article was published in 2012.
My guess is that Sweden’s rape rate was minimal and on par with other European nations before Sweden began mass importing Muslims and Africans. The Cultural Marxists at the BBC, however, will not place the blame where blame is due — on the Third Worlders now occupying areas of Sweden and on the Leftists who imported them.
It also doesn’t support the headline comment.
Thanks for pointing out my error.
Sounds to me like a seller’s market for pocket .38 specials and .380 ACPs.
Sounds like a great vacation place for young, Muslim men.
Unless, I missed it, the article makes absolutely no mention of Muslims.
Political correctness is a mental disorder.

One has to be very, very careful with international crime comparisons — especially regarding rape.
The definitions of “rape” vary widely from country to country. (E.g. spousal rape isn’t reported in many countries, and there are varying definitions of “statutory rape”, depending on national statutes, if any.) If these statistics were comparing “forcible rape”, then they would be more reliable.
Also, the reporting rates vary widely from country to country.
I’m not trying to diminish the seriousness of this issue in any way — but, the first requirement in comparing any data is to have clear definitions of the terms being compared.
You are right about the definition and reportage being different in various countries. I imagine that reporting rape in Sweden is higher because the women there are more ‘empowered’, but I wonder what the effect PC downplaying of muslim on native rapes will have over the long term.
Yes, I noticed they tip-toed around this as well, blaming the high numbers instead on spousal rape committed through the course of a marriage.
I agree with almost everything you said; especially about the expected correlations. That would make an interesting research project, for someone.
AFAIK, Sweden has a very broad definition of “rape”. However, I think there’s more to the Assange accusations than you’ve been led to believe. My understanding is that, while the two woman involved were quite willing to have “protected” sex with Assange, they were not willing to forgo a condom. To me, that’s somewhat akin to the difference between being a willing sky diver, and being pushed out of a plane, without a parachute. The women were willing to have low-risk sex — but, were unwilling to undertake the (greater) risk of pregnancy and disease, from unprotected sex. IMHO, if guilty, Assange committed serious offenses against his accusers.

I suspect that resentment will soon begin to boil up.
No, rape is certainly not easier to get away with in Sweden than in any other country. If anything,I would say the opposite.
The statistics are misleading for several reasons. One is that any sexual interaction with anyone under the legal age, 15, is classified as rape - no matter how willing the 14-year old might be. Another is that I would say that a comparatively high percentage of rapes are reported to the police - women are not stigmatised or condemned by society for being a rape victim.
