Sen. Marco Rubio said Friday that illegal immigrants will get legal status no matter what happens with border security, but said the Senate will have to stiffen enforcement in order to win the 60 votes needed to pass his bill through his chamber.
Nobody is talking here about preventing legalization. Legalization will take place, Mr. Rubio told Univision in an interview scheduled to air Sunday.
First comes legalization, then comes this border security measure and then comes the permanent residency process. What we are talking about here is the permanent residency system, the Florida Republican said, according to the English translation of the interview.
Regarding legalization, a vast majority of my colleagues have already accepted that: that it must take place and that it must start at the same time we start with what has to do with security. That is not conditional. Legalization is not conditional.
As one of the eight authors of the immigration bill, Mr. Rubio is fighting to keep it on track, arguing that it does not have the support to clear a filibuster in the Senate right now. But he said it could earn that support if his colleagues will do more to specify where security will be enhanced.

Fixed it
I think the lying, backstabbing weasel just did. These comments are going to go viral.
I couldn’t agree more!!
Lets hope so.
I used to think that. Not anymore. The PDS wars and all the Bhoner excusing/Rubio/Romney supporters here (to this very day) on FR means that either conservatism has been redefined or FR is a GOP stronghold.
In the last week alone I have gone at it with several ‘lesser evil’ types rabidly defending the concept. So apparently conservatism has changed for a number of folks compared to what it was even 4 years ago..
“...means that either conservatism has been redefined...”
Eric Hoffer, the Longshoreman Philosopher, once described the problem:
Every great cause begins as a movement, becomes a business, and eventually degenerates into a racket.
Some of us have been around long enough to know what conservatism was when it still was a movement.
Keep up the good fight, Norm.
m want to. God knows I want to. I don’t think it’s wrong to believe in something and stand fully behind it...though that gets me and others derided as ‘purists’ (like that’s wrong?!?!?) But it sure would help conservatism if self proclaimed conservatives took their heads out of their arses and stopped capitulating and resorting to leftism while declaring it the conservative thing to do.
Even if this crap passes the Senate, I highly doubt this will pass the House. How many House members are willing to risk their political careers by supporting this mess?
And there is no way Rubio will ever become President. The base will simply not support him. Period.
And these illegals have committed so many identity fraud felonies that they say we couldn’t even reasonably expect them to remember them all!
Giving these unconvicted felons legal status is a massive, country-destroying amnesty!
I have no problem with granting illegals legal status...but.....any illegal immigrant must never have a path to USA citizenship open to them, NEVER!!! Yes, they can have permanent legal status as guest workers, pay taxes and gain employment, but are not granted any government or public benefits whatsoever!!! Children of illegals are a different story. They should be allowed a path to USA citizenship, but...only after the reach 21 years old!!! Then they must wait another ten years to file for citizenship. Reason, maturity, common sense and political nuetrality!!! Any Senator or House Representative that does include this in the final legisation should be voted out of office!!! Solid, enforced border security is number one!!! Rubio & Nelson (FL) I hope you read this, or one of you folks does!!!
Regardless of what happens, this statement might scare some people back to their home country.
I would change the metaphor from “Shooting himself in the foot” to “Showing his true colors.”
Shhh! Marco, shut up! I've got a bunch of my dumbass supporters convinced that my support of 'immigration reform' doesn't involve amnesty!
Rubio (above) says that legalization will take place in a bill to Obama’s desk no matter what, so he has to support it to make it better,
but he also says it doesn’t have 60 in the Senate until HE is convinced the border is secure. So which is it Rubio?
Weasel words. The language of choice in DC.
It looks like Rubio and Rand are playing similar games, ‘I am for it but not yet....but maybe if it ..’
Fail.
I am convinced that they all the believe the Dems are correct when they say that the GOP cannot (no chance to) win a POTUS election unless they convince Hispanics that they are for amnesty.
Off year elections like 2010 and 2014 yes, but not the POTUS years 2008, 2012, 2016.
That is why we see Rubio, Rand and Ryan all talking amnesty.
But of course we know that supporting amnesty is no sure path to the WH, exhibit A McCain.
