Ted Cruz: The Senate Is Using Tricks To Raise The Debt Ceiling

Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) blasted the Senate on Tuesday, saying that they were using procedural tricks in order to raise the debt ceiling. In a joint statement with Senator Mike Lee (R-UT) and Senator Rand Paul (R-KY), Cruz said that he would have no objection to sending the budget to conference if Democrats agreed to not use it as a back-door tool to raise taxes or the debt ceiling. They have not made such an agreement, so he exposed them.

“The issue before this body is the debt ceiling and whether the Senate will be able to raise the debt ceiling using a procedural back door that would allow only 51 votes [to pass],” Cruz said. “My friend from Nevada, my friend from Washington State, both of them could go to conference on the budget right now today if they would simply agree that this budget would not be used as a back door to use a procedural trick to raise the debt limit not on 60 votes, but on 50 votes.”

He also went on to point out that the budget they did debate had nothing in it that raised the debt ceiling. “I would suggest that the American people are not interested in procedural games. I think they’re tired of games by the Democrats, and they’re tired of games by the Republicans.”

He then declared to the Senate what the people are interested in. Cruz enlightened the senators, “What they are interested in is leadership in this body to address the enormous fiscal and economic challenges facing this country. Our national debt is nearly $17 trillion. It is larger than the size of our entire economy.

the Democratic side of the aisle have been very explicit that in their collective judgment, the debt ceiling should be raised with no conditions.

In some ways I think we should hand the reins over to dems and let them crash everything all to hell, in the meantime establish a second continental congress with the true liberty loving folks and go from there.

Cruz needs to call Rubio out as being a disgrace to his white hispanicity.

It’s been tried before. They will blame something or someone else for the problem. We have been down that road sooooo many times. It’s time to buckle up and drive the dxxx car.

No we should not allow them to crash it. Ask yourself what happens when you give a drug user
all the drugs they want. Wrong line of reasoning imo.

The debt limit also needs to be raised for Obamacare to work. There are no limits
to the Debt ceiling when unrestricted spending goes unchecked. Someone needs
to step up to be the adult, and just say No.

Ted Cruz criticizes on the issues.

To Ted Cruz, Marco’s ethnicity and the ethnicity of illegal aliens hasn’t anything to do with anything.

Nor does his own ethnic mixture have anything to do with his reaction to someone else’s ethnic mixture.

On the immigration bill issue, Cruz had an amendment in committee that said, if you are here illegally, you can NEVER become a citizen, no matter what you do or don’t do.

With him it’s issues all the way.

A great distinction to Rubio. Even more reason to call Rubio out.

I'm assuming that the budget they discussed was not balanced? So why is he surprised that the debt ceiling would need to be raised?

This may explain a later post about Cruz wearing a baseball cap.
