IRS Blunder Gives Republicans Ammunition in Effort to Defund the Agency

The Internal Revenue Service’s admission that it inappropriately targeted conservative political groups for special scrutiny during the 2012 presidential election only gives congressional Republicans more ammunition as they try to defund and weaken the agency.

For the past few years, Republican lawmakers have sought to slash the funding of the IRS. Reducing the agency’s budget makes it more difficult for it to collect taxes and audit individuals. (Score one for Republicans who dislike high taxes).

But, more importantly, the IRS is also one of the key agencies that will implement the Affordable Care Act. Much of the funding stream for the incoming health care law, arguably the president’s signature legislative achievement, comes from two tax increases: a 3.8 percent hike on investment income for wealthy individuals, estates, and trusts, as well as an additional Medicare tax.

If you’re an American and a conservative, you may want to try not to get sick.

I strongly recommend that you read this book:

You don't need to buy all the other stuff...the book has all the info you need. It's worked for me. I follow it about 85% of the time... I was diagnosed with Type II diabetes last October. I was on metformin for 3 months, but the Eat to Live regimen took my H1b from 11 down to 4.6, and I was immediately taken off metformin. I've dropped 30 lbs, and I've never eaten so much in my life. I feel great!

Time for my Saturday walk (6-9 miles), it'll wipe out my trangressions of this morning, i.e. a couple bowls of cereal...lol

BTW, my next goal is to get off Crestor. That will be a tougher nut to crack, I think.

A criminal act is now a “blunder?”

In the Obama adminstration, that's now a resume enhancer.

Nobody's going to lose a job over this...most likely, they'll all be promoted, with a thank you note signed by Barry & The Wookie.

Why would it give the Repubs ammo? The Republicans hate conservatives every bit as much as the Dems.

The agency is a great big dumping ground for all the political favorites who couldn’t find a real job.

It is over half minority, proving that it is being used as a great big welfare machine, giving people a fake job and a real paycheck.

It has been used for political payback.

It is a great big redistribution machine (taxes / EITC).

It is the new KGB - it has information on everybody, and power to coerce, seize assets, and hound someone to death.

Anybody who thinks any Congress critter (D) or (R) is going to disarm the 800 lb gorilla who funds the government is in serious denial...

You can’t get much more revealing of the psyche than the first sentence of the article: The first and overriding thought is that it might give a political advantage to republicans. Not whether, for example, actual crimes were committed. Or how far up the chain of command this might go.

“Blunder” - nice, if predictable, spin. There was no part of this that was any sort of blunder unless it was in getting caught.

Some Republicans ran others of us right out of the Party with bureaucratic harassments/robberies from their own socialist offices (unaffiliated now). [And to Republicans, no, I don’t want any new taxes—not for emergency/rescue parties in Vegas, public schools or anything else. And no, I don’t want candidates chosen from political correctness.]
