Feinstein cited the Vice President Joe Bidens promotion of the use of a shotgun for self-defense.
[Y]ou could use a 12-gauge shotgun and have a good defensive effect and theres the element of surprise, she added.

ROTFL——good one.
Besides the fact that she is stupid and corrupt, for the vast majority this is not such a bad idea. Little training or practice required to produce some significant deterrent effect.
A shotgun is easy to use effectively and at the short ranges of an urban environment against criminals or a mob probably just as effective or more so than a 5.56. A pretty good weapon also for a militia tasked with keeping public order.
Being an out-of-practice, out of shape duffer, I personally would much rather have a 6-shot 12ga pump than an AR-15 if the times got more interesting.
In open country or in a city where the opposition is a military or paramilitary force it would be much less effective because of inability to penetrate body armor and poor range. Also not so good for sustained suppressive fire for tactical purposes. So a lower value (though not negligible) choice for an effective anti-government guerilla force, which is the implied purpose of the second amendment in the present context.
The best (for the typical person) guerilla weapon legally available to US civilians is certainly the 5.56 semiautomatic rifle.
I have a shotgun. But hard to keep a shotgun in your nightstand.
yeah..rim....with Larry Sinclair..and Reggie Love...
Oh, she has touched them, having photographs taken of her doing so in her ongoing efforts to ban as many of them as she can. She has or owns a gun herself, too.
What she hasn't experienced is being herself shot at. Or defending herself with firearms, alone and outnumbered. Or being mugged. Or suffering house invasion, car jacking, or your garden variety convenience store robbery. In the latter, all she can think of are the guns aimed at shopkeepers, but never acknowledgement of those aimed right back at the criminals (except for cops doing so).
Now she recommends shotguns. Maybe this is progress in the right direction, and we should coo at her, making pleasant noises to solidify what she just said...then work on getting her to revise and extend those comments.
Shotguns can be unwieldy in tight quarters, since short barrels have been deemed taboo. Pistol-grip rigs are too "scary" also. (I should have bought that stainless Mossberg 20 gauge cruiser for about $225 when I had the chance).
Handguns are quicker to draw out from beneath the cash register, Diane. Don't you want people to be able to protect themselves? But Diane, your own bodyguards carry handguns. Don't you have a California concealed carry permit, yourself Diane?
So WE change the subject away from scary looking "high-power" semi-auto rifles to handguns for a while, then to "high-power" bolt actions, which can have a LOT more down-range power than typical .223 AR variant. After pounding them on handgun possession as sadly enough, necessary equalizer (necessary to protect the innocent ---women and children too) then we go on to the idea most Americans should not be prohibited from possessing and carrying on their persons a handgun (unless we can openly carry shotguns and bolt-action rifles?) without there being just cause --like certifiable insanity, felony conviction involving use of force, or habitual criminal, etc.
One big problem with having only a shotgun to defend oneself against "terrorists", is that that leaves a person having to get within 35 or 40 yards. If they have guns (they'll get 'em somewhere, even if they have to smuggle them in concealed in bales of marijuana) why afford then that advantage? The cops searching for ONE skinny 19 yr old, inexperienced noOb, were geared up to the max. All we ask for, are at least basic minimums, for ourselves. Those minimums do not begin and end with blunderbusses.
I'll promise to put only 25 rnds in a 30 rnd mag, if that will help...but need the extra 5 rnds worth of empty space in the magazine to help extend mag-spring life.
Isn’t there some sort of geneva treaty regarding shotguns and the army. They are considered a weapon of mass destruction? or something along those lines?
So feinstein is just playing a shell game. Telling americans to violate the “international law” with something that will be confiscated as banned.
most women can’t handle a 12 gauge shotgun let alone fight with it my wife included. Give her a 9 mm Uzi though and she’s quite effective. as for me, I was an infantry rifleman. I’ll take an AR15 thank you.
We will need a shotgun to defend ourselves from Slimestein.
I could also use a Feinswine blow-up doll to beat the perp over the head. That would also contain an element of surprise.
Same.
Ill take an AR15 thank you.
Meh - AR15 is, IMO, overrated.
That’s all true but she still isn’t too bright. I remember when she was questioning Sam Alito and he gave a detailed answer which was perfectly understandable to me (but I actually read the constitution and history) but she said “well I don’t understand that, so let’s move on.” And she’s on the Judiciary committee! She works by emotion and not by actual thought. She can’t intellecutually do battle with somebody like Cruz.
If the name of a previously widely banned shotgun was changed from “street sweeper” “citizen’s anti terror 12 gauge” could they be made available again? A 20 rnd drum is sufficient. They tell me the 30rnd and larger are a bit too heavy.
Excellent.
citing the obvious re assault weapons ban and gun control in general: as though politicians really give a rat’s ass about the safety of US citizens. Gun control is nothing more than the politicians and the elites who control them wanting to deny the citizens the ability to reach out and touch one of their own. this unspoken fact (taboo) needs to become common knowledge to every US citizen. Gun control IS NOT ABOUT THE CHLDERN
And the other California dingbat - Boxer - stated “I’m not answering these questions” when Santorum was pinning her down on when a baby was a baby and not subject to partial birth abortion.
Yea, I’m not looking to defend if someone comes in my house.
I’m on the offensive and moving towards them as I unload magazines in their mortal bodies....
