Welcome to the New Normal, where the rapists get all the sympathy from the liberals. You are just not tolerating their culture properly.

It's getting bad in this country.

My husband and I were watching prime time TV tonight...show after show of the crudest sexual content you’ve ever seen. It would be considered soft porn a decade ago.. Now, it’s routine. Women are shown as sex objects, nameless, faceless bodies that hop in and out of men’s beds without any feeling or intimacy. Music videos and popular culture show women as whores, shown only as the sexual objects they represent to men and referred to in the most crudest of ways, not only by men, but by other women!
And then we are shocked, horrified to see young men doing exactly what they’ve witnessed for most their lives without shame or remorse...and we wring our hands and asks how could this happen. TURN ON YOIR DAMN TV.. LOOK AT WHAT YOUR CHILDREN ARE WATCHING 24/7... I am 54 years old..I don’t consider myself a prude, but sometime I blush at what I see during what’s marketed as FAMILY HOUR TV. It never ends.
Every show is about sex...even the Church women who used to
Protest these things have given up. We have done this to ourselves. So it’s a bit disingenuous to act all self righteous now.

“I’ve heard a lot about how horrid the boys were in this case and a lot of apologists for the girl and her disgraceful conduct.”

Two guys rape a girl and you felt...what? That it wasn’t horrid? Would you have felt different if, say, the girl was mentally challenged, and didn’t understand what the guys were doing to her?

Here is my take on this: rape is not just sex but violence agaisnt another person, male or female. There is no excuse for young men or boys to do such a thing no matter whether the person was drunk or mentally challenged.

We should be rearing our boys to be the kind of men who are protective of the weaker members of our society, not men who take advantage of the weaker.

There is absolutely no joy in this case. If anything this sort of atrocity occurs regularly and is rarely prosecuted. Think of what happens to urban young girls subjected to the tender mercies of gangs and homies. Rap lyrics tell all you need to know.Sadly such decadence is no longer rare in America and this trial is shocking only because there was an actual prosecution.

since when is it okay for young men to act like animals???? I am appalled at those who have defended these heathens. Sons should be taught to respect women and the value of waiting until marriage for sex. All those who want to say everyone does it or the girl was drunk or boys will be boys should be horse whipped. Our society has devolved into a nihilistic state where fidelity is not valued, relationships and commitments are not honored, babies are slaughtered because they are too young....It is horrendous.

Do not defend these disgusting animals

How awful. If a footballist can be found guilty in Steubenville, then there must be no place in America where they are above the Law.

And this is bad, because?

Judging from how many threads about this rape you’ve commented on, blaming the victim with such anger and hate, I’m guessing you were somehow involved in this rape or have been accused and/or convicted of rape.

There was no way in hell they were not going to be found guilty. They were lynched.

No. Had they been "lynched", they would be dead. That's what the word means.

That would have been justice. Anything less is a slap on the wrist.

On one of the several times I have been called for jury duty, several years ago it was a date rape case involving two students at the local college.

During jury selection, the facts of the case seemed to admitted by the defense. They both were drunk, decided to get out of the car to continue ‘making out’, she said “STOP” and he did not.

The defense lawyer had the accused all cleaned up neat & tidy in a suit & tie. It appeared that they had hired a gorgeous ‘babe’ from central casting, dressed up prim & proper like ‘Marian the Librarian’, to pose as legal secretary and sit next to the accused.

Implication? “Why, if this beautiful, pure young woman is safe sitting next to the accused, then he MUST be innocent!”

When the defense attorney questioned us, the prospective jurors, he learned that I was a former Marine captain, a Vietnam veteran with three daughters. He quietly said, “You are dismissed.”

My thoughts on that case (without hearing the full testimony)?

Yes, the girl was really stupid. But, she will have to live with the memory of the results of her stupidity for the rest of her life.

Yes, the man was probably enticed and aroused by the girl.

But, NO means NO. Period!

My solution to the problem of date rape?

Have video booth vending machines on campus, at the mall and in the nightlife district. Both parties sit in the booth and have a brief “Mutual Consent” deposition videotaped. A copy is retained in the machine. Another is stored on a small memory chip attached to the “Consensual Sex Affidavit” form that is printed out. After it is witnessed by two people, it becomes a legal document, absolving the man of any exposure to rape charges. If he does not have one, he’s guilty.

Will anyone use these? Probably not. But they may make BOTH the guys & the girls behave a bit more prudently (yes, “prudently”, as in ‘Prude”) ....or a least THINK about behaving...

[just my 2 cents worth]

The rapists should be hanged from the goalposts of their football field during a school assembly. Haul them up slowly and let them go to hell choking and kicking as an object lesson.

Sooooo much misinformation......

City police began their investigation after the victim’s parents went to the Steubenville police station on Aug. 14 to report a sexual assault involving their daughter.

As Hanlin coordinated the initial investigation effort with local law enforcement, state investigators were brought in early, records show. BCI was pressed into service on Aug. 16 to help process the crime scene where the rape took place.

On Aug. 27, Hanlin officially requested assistance from the Ohio Attorney General’s office in the prosecution of the two juveniles.

Hanlin had no further involvement with the case, she said.

Walter Madison, Richmond’s attorney, mentioned Hanlin and her son during testimony and during his closing arguments Saturday night.

Charlie Keenan’s (Hanlin’s son) name was mentioned in one report, but the lead investigator testified to excluding him as a suspect or witness saying he accounted for Keenan’s whereabouts during the days in question.

Hanlin said she heard her and her son mentioned indirectly by Madison during the trial.

“I think it was irresponsible for (Madison) bringing it up, especially in closing arguments, when it was clearly explained in testimony that Charlie had absolutely nothing to do with the incident,” Hanlin said.

The prosecutor was the best friend these defendants had when she agreed to try them in juvenile court rather than as adults. Had she stuck to the original plan, they’d be facing years in jail instead of just months.
