Panel approves assault weapons ban; Cruz, Feinstein get heated

The Senate Judiciary Committee approved a ban on the sale and manufacture of more than 150 types of semi-automatic weapons with military-style features Thursday in a party-line vote.

The 10-8 vote came after a heated exchange between Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) and Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), who Feinstein scolded for giving her a "lecture" on the Constitution.

It’s the fourth piece of gun control legislation to make it out of committee, and perhaps the one with the longest odds of becoming law given opposition from Republicans to a new ban on so-called assault weapons.

Committee Democrats first beat back four amendments offered by Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) that would have carved out exceptions to the ban. Cornyn asked for exceptions for victims of domestic violence, military veterans and those living on Southwest border states that he said were affected by Mexican gang violence.

Feinstein, the sponsor of the underlying bill, called the amendments “an effort to nip it and tuck it and create exceptions.”

Cornyn said it would Feinstein’s bill would leave citizens with “peashooters” and outgunned by criminals.

They have declared war.

And this is their first big battle.

The filthy totalitarian pigs might win this battle. They just might. But I suspect it will cost them dearly. Everything from lost elections, non-compliance, non-enforcement, jury nullification, and, failing those, much worse.

Why are they even bothering with this? It will never get past the House, and they know it. It’s all for show..........

The video on Cruz v. Feinstein was entertaining ~ she's in bad shape, but did you catch the head goober ~ Senator Leahy, who's been around years and years when the exact things have been argued before, seemed to be unaware of the situation and tried to shut Cruz down for being nongermane ~ which doesn't apply to Senate debate but to Senate bills.

I think we are looking at retirement for Leahy pretty soon, or maybe a REALLY BIG STROKE ~

Please, please, please put it before the senate for a full vote. Let’s get the traitors on record.

We thought Obamacare would never get passed, either.

As long as Republicans can hold the House, or maintain at least enough Senators to effect a filibuster.......

They want to ensure that voters will remember to vote them out of office.

Fixed it.

I don’t count on “Republicans” for anything any more. Wasn’t it a “Republican” who let Obamacare out of committee .... otherwise it would have died there (or something like that)? “Republicans” have had their chances and failed miserably on many fronts. They could defund Obamacare ... but they keep trucking along with it ... they could defund aspects of government that are behaving badly in many ways .... they keep tolerating it. Nope, I don’t think “Republicans” will oppose/prevent gun laws that curtail the Constitutional rights of law-abiding Americans.

It will never get past the House

If the Republicans don't get their heads out of their butts and start fielding conservative candidates, come next election the RATs will win the House, too. Then all bets are off.

And I’m very tired of looking at her.
