Liberals, the mainstream media, and establishment Republicans often reveal which conservatives they fear by their level of disdain and vitriol.
This week, they put their crosshairs on freshman Texas Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX), a Tea Party conservative of Hispanic descent who undermines the mainstream media's ability to advance their false notion that being a minority and Tea Partier are mutually exclusive. He is a conservative who showed no desire to defer to the Senate's "courtly" ways, the preferences of the institution's old bulls.
The sinking ship that is the New York Times, the so-called paper of record, provided evidence of what it fears most in its Saturday edition: strong, distinct full-throated conservative voices from folks who ain't "country club," geriatric, and white. The Washington Post and Politico joined the times in assailing Cruz this week for similar reasons. The Times did a thorough review of the freshman senator's stunning seven-week run:

They have a lot more to fear from Cruz regardless of whether he’s eligible to run for president or not.
Just what we need, new senators coming into DC and being assimilated into the machine....its worked so well for the past 50 years</sarcasm>...don’t know much about this Cruz fellow, but anyone willing to shake up the status-quo is OK in my book.
Why even have confirmation hearings if it is already pre-determined that someone should be confirmed?
Libs are most vociferous agains Republicans who happen to be of non=caucasian ancestry . . . Cruz, Rubio, West . . . racist much?
it is painfull obvious the left wing media sets their news by reading the NYT. No news gathering or thought.
Chris Mathers looked LITERALLY drunk this morning.
The mccarthy meme does not counter the fact mccarthy was 100% right about the communists.
The racists at the NYT only attack conservative minority members who don’t know their place. And of course, “their place” is feeding at the government trough with Democrat minority members.
“The mccarthy meme does not counter the fact mccarthy was 100% right about the communists.”
Why would they let the facts taint their opinion! Ever notice there was little mention of the commies and fellow travelors in the government in the 30s-50’s when those details became known after the fall of the USSR? Little mention of Ted the Swimmer’s activities either. The press makes me sick.
The NYT are racist and that is not a joke.
I guarantee you if hispanics started voting republican, liberals would start depicting illegal immigrants as the most loathsome creatures on earth. They already do this with any whites, blacks and hispanics who think the “wrong” way.
Hispanics will start voting R when GOPe fields a charismatic Hispanic candidate.
One of the main characteristics of politicians winning elections in Texas. Politically speaking the people Of Texas are spilling alot of establishment blood. I would bet money John Cornyn is in the process of reevaluating some of his "bi partisan" views...they hit with a thud when they were unveiled and he hasn't recovered since.
McCarthyite! Wow, makes me think of my very intelligent son (now a brand-new engineer) who graduated high school in 2008. He once brought up the fact that his public high school history teacher spent a full week talking (teaching?) about Joe McCarthy. On his own, my son surmised that it was just an effort to introduce to kids the idea that opposing or exposing communism is ridiculous, and that it’s “not cool.”
Love that photo. It says it all. Schumer looks positively insane and in need of a straight jacket. Stat.
We need ten more in the Senate like Ted Cruz, then we will be getting somewhere. Senate Conservatives Fund has already started to work on this for 2014. They have already identified the states we need to concentrate on that have vulnerable Senate seats coming up.
Doubt it.
Bump!
The NYT is identifying who they fear.
Cruz is on the right path. We need more like him.
As one who signed on during the first primary, my heart beats faster every time I see Cruz on TV...
Correction to previous post... I have not seen TV news since early November 7th. I see Ted on youtube or some other internet source... I also view the other Ted the same way...
I can not stand to look at or hear that communist dictator currently occupying the Whitehouse.
They fear him. He is eligible to run for president since his parents were both Americans. He scares them because he is a contender for 2016 and the MSM will have a hard time attacking the GOP as the ‘angry white’ party if we have 2 Hispanics running. They’ll try, but Cruz has bite. With a little coaching, I’m sure he could decimate the media in a way Romney couldn’t. It’s time we smacked these people down.
Ted Cruz' gravitational pull is indeed starting to yank Cornyn to the right. John's been doing the McCain/Hatch "I have an election coming" conservative camoflage dance lately.
Sarah Palin found out what happens when you speak out the wrong way,I hope MR.Cruz does not suffer the same fate
I believe only his mother was. Doesn't really matter. He was born a U.S. citizen. He didn't have to naturalize. I'm sure if he wanted to run, the Senate would extend the same courtesy they did to McCain and declare Cruz natural born by resolution. The courts don't seem interested in addressing the issue of eligibility and the Roberts court in particular has already shown itself willing to defer to the voters.
So there you have it.
Is this true?
Is Cruz not actually Canadian, but is American?
If so, that would absolutely explain why the NYT is trying to damage him now.
I take back any references to Canada I have posted. Please illuminate us on the Canada vs America issue with Cruz.
Is he American?
"The Venona Secrets" is a long and tedious book, but it sheds a bright light on all the infiltration of our government by commie spies. Indeed, McCarthy was 100% right.
Even in the 20s and 30s, the commies and fellow-travelers had a tight hold on much of the press in the US and worshipful articles about the old Soviet Union were commonplace.
There was an excellent article by Norman Berdichevsky on FR this week (Feb 13) about this very phenomena in the film industry: Hollywoods Intentional Ignorance of the Crimes of Communist and Muslim Regimes in the New English Review.
Interesting article over here: Could Canadian-Born Ted Cruz Be President?
"Bottom line: Despite being born in Canada, Cruz can be considered a natural-born U.S. citizen because his mother was also a U.S. citizen who lived in the United States long enough for him to qualify, according to constitutional experts."
Very interesting article.
Thanks. Cruz 2016 is a possibility. Interesting
High on the list of candidates.
Thanks very much.

If you ask me, McVeigh parked his Ryder in front of the wrong building.
They have been asking for it since the Civil War, agitated against a peaceful solution after Secession and for conquest of the south, as well as freeing the slaves and then not repatriating them back to where they came from.
In short, responsible for the murder of millions of Americans by the Federal government and by the descendants of freed slaves, and our coming third world status.
A 150 year record of relentless smear attacks and propaganda against real Americans.
Cruz could just make up a birth certificate that says all the right things and then igonre the critics just like BO does.
There will be people who claim that Cruz (same with Marco Rubio, Bobby Jindal and Barack Obama) are ineligible because both parents weren't U.S. citizens when they were born. They'll shout this from the rooftops but their argument hasn't gotten much traction and little support outside of the fringe birther circus.
I predict if Cruz were to run, there might be a few angry birthers stomping their feet but there'd be no legal hurdles in regards to his eligibility that he would challenge.
From Drew68's #22: I believe only his mother was.
I am personally strongly pro Cruz--far more effective and more qualified candidate than Rubio. So I view all this commentary as a disaster.
The Natural Born Citizen eligibility question turns solely on the question of whether the individual was born within the geographical limits of the several states--all the rest of this stuff is pure nonsense. That is the substantive Constitutional Law answer.
The stuff about the Robert's Court is applicable to the effort to conceal the place and circumstances of the birth of the current occupant of the White House whose political supporters have obviously developed an effective way to control Roberts. If the Constitutional Law answer were uncertain, which it is not, it is a dreamworld for anyone to believe that a Roberts Court would influence the outcome in our favor.
The Senate action would be as irrelevant as it was in McCain's case--the Senate does not have the Constitutional Power to tell the Supreme Court how to decide questions of Constitutional Law; the Court has historically demonstrated an offensive reaction to this kind of Legislation. McCain was not eligible no matter who was on the Court--he was born in Panama.
Further, the citizenship answer itself is a little more complex--I have not studied Cruz's facts. But if his mother alone was a US Citizen, his citizenship at birth is not a clear answer either--depending on when he was born, citizenship from a US mother citizen requires compliance with several specific conditions.
Even worse, most Constitutional Law authorities (see the article in the Cornell Law Review) view the mother citizenship statute as unconstitutional because it does not provide for equal citizenship access to a person whose father was a US Citizen and the person's mother was not.
Surprising if true that this issue has not come up earlier--because citizenship is required (Article I, Section 3) to serve in the Senate: "No person shall be a Senator who shall not have . . . been nine Years a Citizen of the United States . . . . "
If only his mother was a US Citizen and she does not pass citizenship to Cruz, how does he get to be a Citizen at all absent a nationalization proceeding?
Was looking for that photo. Thanks for posting.
His father left Cuba when Casto came in so I don’t believe he would have still been considered a Cuban citizen and probably couldn’t pass Cuban citizenship to Ted.
It’s not about racism so much as it’s about stuff. The lib voters vote for stuff, not hteir country, which they should, as voting is something that’s done for the good of the country.
They will turn on their own race as certainly as they turn on their own country.
What is that from? The SOTU?
He won't get the air time. We'll have to get the word out by ourselves. It won't be easy.
Apparently she did, per U.S. code. If this weren't the case, Cruz would be an illegal immigrant as he never naturalized --a detail I'm sure his political opponents would have seized upon by now.
Is he a natural born citizen? I don't know. This would be for the courts to answer (or they can continue to evade the issue). I do believe that if Ted Cruz decided to run for President, he'd face no serious legal challenge in regards to his eligibility.
McCarthy WAS right. The Communists were all through out FDR’s cabinet. They knew every time FDR took a leak. The problem was that the press never told the American people so they think it is just a wackos that believe that stuff.
Fast forward to today, we have the same thing happening with Islamists. They are controlling the way we fight the war on terror and if anyone tries to out them they are labeled nut jobs and fired.
Evil is all around us and we had better wake the hell up.
Love that photo! You can certainly tell who the Patriot is in that pic...
He will suffer the same treatment from the MSM. It is not about what he says; it is about what he believes. As long as he continues to believe in conservative principles, they will go after him.
Not only were they throughout FDR’s cabinet and many cabinet offices below the Secretaries, but many of them were actively passing information to Soviet spies. Eleanor was a fellow-traveller.
Read “The Venona Secrets” for the full story. It is indeed frightening.
So the bottom line is that Ted Cruz *is* a U.S. citizen, and therefore eligible to run for President?
Not nit-picking here, I'm just trying to get it straight...
“Hispanics will start voting R when GOPe fields a charismatic Hispanic candidate.”
Nonsesnse. For one thing, hispanics of Mexican descent do not identify with hispanics of Cuban descent, so the race card would give Cruz and Rubio a slight edge in south Florida and that’s about it.
Yup. they sure do.
bump!
“For one thing, hispanics of Mexican descent do not identify with hispanics of Cuban descent, so the race card would give Cruz and Rubio a slight edge in south Florida and thats about it.”
ssshh! You’re not supposed to tell all the secrets!
Godwin’s Law: as an argument grows longer and more heated, it becomes increasingly likely that somebody will bring up Adolf Hitler or the Nazis. When such an event occurs, the person guilty of invoking Godwin’s Law has effectively forfeited the argument. Violated most often by modern national socialists.
Godwin’s Law II (`Iron law’): under similar heated circumstances, again when the malfeasor arguendo has not a leg to stand upon, he/she/it will accuse the opponent a `McCarthyism’. Always broken by Democrats, liberals, newspapers, magazines, Leon Pitts, and other like-minded hysterical moonbats.
Is he a natural born citizen? I don't know. This would be for the courts to answer (or they can continue to evade the issue). I do believe that if Ted Cruz decided to run for President, he'd face no serious legal challenge in regards to his eligibility.
You are welcome to believe whatever you like. #30 is a fair summary of the existing state of the law. You can bet that if Cruz becomes a candidate, a much more effective attack will be made on his credentials than we have seen in connection with the current occupant of the White House.
Although I agree, it would be really surprising if the citizen issue had not been addressed by his political opponents because he has a fair number of them.
I like Cruz better than any of the alternatives and if this entire story is true, I view it as a disaster.
Cruz is a competent successful person who has a long established record of performance and production at whatever he has undertaken. He is the epitome of the kind of Conservative candidate who would get widespread support.
In order to resolve the citizen at birth question, you need to know the birth date; place and circumstances of birth; mother's age at the date of birth; mother's period of residence in the US; date the mother first became a resident of the US; father's citizenship.
So the bottom line is that Ted Cruz *is* a U.S. citizen, and therefore eligible to run for President?
Not nit-picking here, I'm just trying to get it straight...
Be good if he was--get someone to tell us how he complied with which citizenship at birth statute.
