Additions to be made to gun laws for law enforcement
WABC ^ | 17 jan 2013 | Jim Hoffer

A troubling oversight has been found within New York State's sweeping new gun laws.

The ban on having high-capacity magazines, as it's written, would also include law enforcement officers.

Magazines with more than seven rounds will be illegal under the new law when that part takes effect in March. As the statute is currently written, it does not exempt law enforcement officers.

The money quote.
“ State Senator Eric Adams, a former NYPD Captain, told us he’s going to push for an amendment next week to exempt police officers from the high-capacity magazine ban. In his words, “You can’t give more ammo to the criminals””

So they should pass a law that makes it illegal for the criminals to only carry guns with 3 rounds or less. that would be fair, right?

Sounds like a good law to me. I mean if I can't have a normal sized magazine for a pistol or military style semiautomatic rifle, then I don't think that the police should have them.

The logic is perfectly clear. They are the police not a militia or military organization and so they shouldn't be able to have firearms that kill lots of people in little time as our President has said.

That’s exactly what the law abiding gun owners want too. We want to have more ammo than the guys breaking into our homes. We want more than the government in order to keep them in check and prevent wannabe dictators from becoming actual dictators.

BTW - What Adams said ought to be the battle cry for every lawsuit brewing in NY against this asinine law.

We have to pass a law before we can know what is in the law.

It's the law.

E. Pluribus Unum ~:” We have to pass a law before we can know what is in the law. “

Its just another “feel good” law that should be ammended , or better yet , thrown out !
Dem’s are good at “feel Good” laws that dont accomplish much , nor prevent crime .

What's the problem? The Democrats of New York have proven the fact that nobody needs more than 7 rounds to defend yourself, so why would a cop need more than that? (Unless he’s going to go crazy and try to murder a bunch of people or Dogs or something.)

How many bullets does a trained cop need to stop a criminal from harming others? The same amount as a law abiding citizen, of course.

How many bullets does a cop need to stop Fido?

How did they ever work around the domestic violence convictions and cops, military, and all the law enforcement people?

Now that Cuomo tried to out-Obama the POTUS , and got his 15 minutes of fame ,
now its time to get back down to serious business.

How many bullets did Pima County SWAT team members put in Jose Guerena, and how many did he fire at them?

Seems like those “zero-tolerance” fanatics who expel primary-school kids for making “finger guns” should apply the same damn standard to the NYPD: All should be arrested and kicked off the force NOW for breaking this wonderful REASONABLE new law designed to “save lives.”

But, oh, I forgot, they get the David Gregory “insider/elite” exception clause applied to them.

If it were any of us, we would be heading to the slammer. Two tiers of justice, anyone?

The hastily written and passed law places NY in a well-deserved place: laughing stock.

Perhaps it would be a “teachable moment” if the law were allowed to take effect unamended ... does the minority in the Senate that voted against this have any more sway in terms of holding up the amendment process??

“State Senator Eric Adams, a former NYPD Captain, told us he’s going to push for an amendment next week to exempt police officers from the high-capacity magazine ban. In his words, “You can’t give more ammo to the criminals” “

Apparently allowing the criminals to outgun the rest of is is perfectly permissible...

No special provision for NY cops. If the pols are sticking it to the common people, it’s only fair to stick it to the cops. Remember this is about “fairness” and “leveling the playing field.” Suggestion — It is time for NY cops to take these political hacks to the woodshed and explain the facts of life to them: “If cops get killed as a result of your stupid legislation, no on’s going to find your body. Remember Jimmy Hoffa.”

I believe it was in New York, recently, where the NYPD went to take down a perp and managed to put more bullets into innocent bystanders than the criminal. I’d say ammo limits for the NYPD are “common-sense” gun laws.

These cops won’t need all this ammo anymore. Isn’t that what the law is for?
