OXFORD, Miss. (FOX13) -
If you are looking for a place to smoke on the Ole Miss campus, good luck with that.
The new "No Smoking" policy has it covered and is being strictly enforced.
Basically the policy reads you can't smoke anywhere on the Ole Miss campus. That includes the interior of all University buildings. As for the property or the grounds, you can't smoke on the sidewalks, parking lots, recreational areas, partially enclosed or open areas such as walkways, breezeways, patios, porches, gazebos, tents and bus shelters.
As for University vehicles, you can't smoke in them, you can't smoke in the campus bus shelters, golf carts, or any University rides.
In other words, no smoking anywhere at any time on the Ole Miss campus.
Most students thought it was a good idea saying that it will help clean up the campus and keep the air smelling a bit more fresh. Some of the student body didn't think the effort would help curb smoking saying people would do it anyhow.
If you do choose to smoke on the Ole Miss campus you will be fined $25.
University administrators are offering its students and staff ample opportunity to kick the habit.
Ole Miss has plenty of programs for the students to help them stop smoking. If you are a faculty or staff member at Ole Miss and would like to stop smoking, your insurance will cover up to three months worth of Smoking Cessation medication.
Nanny State PING!
They should be barred from receiving ANY funds from ANY tobacco settlements.
More intrusion on personal rights? Is smoking marijuana allowed.....if Sorority houses or Fraternity houses are on campus..is smoking disallowed there also? How about the over weight or chewing gum addicts.........
First Ole’ Miss stopped the prostitutes from advertising on Craig’s List. Now they are preventing smoking. What’s next, guns and alcohol?
And no, I don't buy the "secondhand smoke causes cancer" argument against smoking in public.
We had this in Joplin @ the hospital. However a State hyway was used to reach the newly acclaimed Campus so to speak!
Was Funny all the nurses would go out to the crosswalk to fire em up! One guy there had a globe of the world that opened to be an ashtray with vent fan in office lol!
We were told one warning and we would be fired this included parking lot as well!
We were just construction workers!
Tabacco Companies used to be HUGE Republican donors
If they were huge DEMOCRAP donors we would be hearing about the many healthful benefits of “bathing your lungs in cleansing smoke”
This is an excellent opportunity to drive the Nasty Nellies nuts, with the use of simple “smudge pots”. There will be cigarette police chasing all over the place after detecting the *odor* of cigarettes.
First get a bag or box of cheap mini candles in aluminum cups for a dollar or two. About an inch high, they are typically used as pumpkin lights on Halloween. Sprinkle cigarette tobacco on the top of the candle, light it, then put it in a larger empty can for food or drink. Then hide them around campus where they won’t be noticed.
They won’t give off smoke, but will act like tobacco scented candles. The best part is that it is hard to hone in on smells, so they will likely accuse innocent people of smelling like tobacco.
If done properly, large parts of the campus would reek of tobacco, with lots of complaints first about the tobacco, then against the cig police harassing innocent people.
They will be so confused when all those people stop smoking and the tax income from tobacco products dries up. Go figure.
Don’t give ‘em any ideas!
I would say “commies” but NO! I was in Shanghai a few weeks ago, no problem having a smoke in the bar as long as it was the smoking section. Really I had to go to a communist country to have a smoke without standing in the cold.
Mississippi ping
Mississippi ping
That is pretty funny.
They could also leave a lit cigar in front of a fake doll on the bench.
Then put the video of them trying to fine them on YouTube. That will go viral.
I respected the hell out of the man, because, unlike many of his counterparts today, he truly encouraged intellectual discourse and debate in his classes, and my grades did not suffer in the least as a result of our divergent views.
I mention it only here in that he always had a pipe blazing with Borkum Riff Whiskey or John Middleton Apple tobacco...apparently Ole Miss would not suffer his presence on their campus.
Thanks for the ping!
