I salute him for his military service. May his family be comforted.
RIP and thank-you for your service to the country.
If only he had been covered under Obamacare!
Have nothing against Inouye in particular, but when 88 year-old Senators are dying in office (after having won re-election 2 years earlier), what does it say about politics in Hawaii, or the USA for that matter?
Any idea of which Democrat Neil Abercrombie will appoint to serve in the US Senate for the next 50 years?
Amen to that! No matter how ill or incompetent they are, most politicians are pretty much guaranteed to stay in office for life. What about that one senator from S. Dakota who had the stroke? Has he recovered, or are other people voting for him? And, of course, there was Sen. Byrd who was obviously too ill to perform his duties, but nothing was done to remove him from office. We don’t have elected officials; we have royalty.
Medal of Honor recipient, a True American hero, not like some who are anointed by the media.

As an 80 year old I’m curious. What does it say?
.
Some Jewish people were helpful to him early on in life. So later on as a Senator he slipped in some million dollar appropriations to help build some Jewish and Hasidic schools
Robert Bird
Storm Thurmond was reelected at age 95 or 96.
Geez, lots of new senators gone right after an election, DeMint, Kerry, Inouye.
Diane Feinstein will be 86 when her current term is up.
I salute him and his congressional Medal of Honor . Despite political differences he was a great servant to his country.
He was a true hero. When he had his arm blown off, he was in the process of throwing a grenade; despite the horrific injury, he picked up the grenade with his left hand and proceeded to throw it and destroyed a German bunker. This was after he was shot in the stomach.
Agreed....but who’s fault is that?? How about the idiots that send these guys back for 50 years? Thank you NJ for miserable Frank Lousyberg.
He was a WWII vet but he was a bastard during the Iran Contra hearings. The look of vitriol on his face when Brendan Sullivan interrupted his tirade comparing North, etc. to the Nazi just following orders! He didn’t like that at all!
Any idea of which Democrat Neil Abercrombie will appoint to serve in the US Senate for the next 50 years?
With our luck it will be an Indonesian immigrant.
He was President pro tempore of the Senate, which means he was third in the line of presidential succession. Does anyone know who becomes President pro tempore now?
He’s saying that it says that Politicians are spending their entire lives in elected office. Which is NOT what our founders intended.
When is Lousyberg going to drop dead?
The answer to my question is in the USA Today article. It’s Patrick Leahy!

Being in jail is no impediment, assuming you're from Chicago and put a "D." after your name.
At some point in time you have voted for enough bad legislation....
What about Senators who died within the next term after not running again?
Arlen Specter was 82.
Jesse Helms was 87.

RIP Inouye.
RIP for an American war hero.
Can’t say I like his politics much, though.
Now, can Abercrombie appoint FLOTUS 0bama to be a senatrix?
Moving her out of the WH would be a win-win for everyone.
Senator Tim Johnson is still in the Senate despite a stroke. He is such a joke. Can barely speak and yet runs hearings. Out of duty to his nation, he should have stepped down. But, no. Vanity rules.
The Senate COUNTRY CLUB has become in part like a hospice of sorts too. Look how many senators choose to leave in the horizontal position? Term and age limits should be only 2 and no older than age 75. Time for the same or similar to be applied to SCOTUS.
He is likely to appoint Neil Abercrombie.
Is that legal?
At least Gabby Giffords chose to do the proper course and resign her seat. I give her alot of credit instead of just hanging around to cccupy a seat for the liberal agenda.
I totally agree..it was the first thing I thought of when I saw this..
Career politicians are the bane of our government.
I think it will be Ed Case.
Prolly not, but it is Hawaii, after all.
Medal of Honor Citation:
“Second Lieutenant Daniel K. Inouye distinguished himself by extraordinary heroism in action on 21 April 1945, in the vicinity of San Terenzo, Italy. While attacking a defended ridge guarding an important road junction, Second Lieutenant Inouye skillfully directed his platoon through a hail of automatic weapon and small arms fire, in a swift enveloping movement that resulted in the capture of an artillery and mortar post and brought his men to within 40 yards of the hostile force. Emplaced in bunkers and rock formations, the enemy halted the advance with crossfire from three machine guns. With complete disregard for his personal safety, Second Lieutenant Inouye crawled up the treacherous slope to within five yards of the nearest machine gun and hurled two grenades, destroying the emplacement. Before the enemy could retaliate, he stood up and neutralized a second machine gun nest. Although wounded by a snipers bullet, he continued to engage other hostile positions at close range until an exploding grenade shattered his right arm. Despite the intense pain, he refused evacuation and continued to direct his platoon until enemy resistance was broken and his men were again deployed in defensive positions. In the attack, 25 enemy soldiers were killed and eight others captured. By his gallant, aggressive tactics and by his indomitable leadership, Second Lieutenant Inouye enabled his platoon to advance through formidable resistance, and was instrumental in the capture of the ridge. Second Lieutenant Inouyes extraordinary heroism and devotion to duty are in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit on him, his unit, and the United States Army.”
This probably means that Harry Reid is now one vote closer to nuking the filibuster. Inouye was a part of the Gang of 14.
Wow, I didn't realize she was that old. Who is pulling her strings?
If the Wikipedia article on Inouye is to be believed, the MOH citation doesn’t tell the half of it. He’d already been shot in the stomach once and refused evacuation, and was crawling toward another bunker with a grenade out in his right hand when a German rifle grenade hit him in the arm and blew it off...leaving the grenade, spoon still down, clenched in his right fist on the ground. He had to use his left hand to pull the grenade out of his amputated right hand, threw it into the machine-gun nest to clear it out as the German who shot him was reloading, and then finished off one more position firing a Thompson gun left-handed.
And then he had to have more of his shattered arm amputated without anesthetic because he’d already had too much morphine.

What ever happened to that rumored mansion in Hawaii? I always suspected it might be just for her.

How is Leahy third in line?
Inoyue was his generation's Carl Hayden. Hayden represented Arizona in Washington from statehood in 1912 until 1969, 57 years to Inoyue's 53. Strom Thurmond (served to 100) was his generation's T.F. Green, who represented Rhode Island until he was 94 and lived to be 98.
Why do Senators keep getting reelected? It used to be seniority. The seniority system has been weakened, but I guess it still is. Stay in long enough and there's a lot of favors you can call in, and that helps for constituent services.
I guess you also become an institution or a symbol if you're around long enough -- or maybe people are just too passive and uninterested to vote you out, or they figure that if you're feeble enough you won't do any harm.
