Which begs the question how do we fund them, Federal or State or Both, and how in G_d’s name do we start it with the dysfunctionality in Washington unwilling to re-invent any program, merge, cut or outright eliminate them? Especially Medicare, Medicaid, “Part D” SSI and or any other Department or Function?

Other, wiser ones than myself, have noted that mass killings were non-existent prior to the closing of the asylums.

Asylums are not politically correct, and the libs don’t care if political correctness kills us all! They’d rather blame it on lack of gun control.

Many of the Libs are saying the mental health situation today is Reagan’s fault, because he started “shutting down the asylums” in the 70s. It was actually JFK who proposed a shift from “asylum” to community care. The availability of SSI in 1972 and increased use of psychotropic meds led to this trend.

Asylums DO need to be brought back!

Ever notice how these shootings really took off after the ACLU had them closed?

Yes, I'm inclined to agree with you.

What bothers me is who gets to decide and what is the criteria?

Some would say Conservatives are crazy.

Not all crazy people commit mass murder either, who do we decide who s\will and who won't or do we just lock them all up?

Sounds like Minority Report to me.

Asylums might need to be brought back.

Asylum Street in Hartford, the capital of the state of Connecticut, was named for the state mental asylum that had been located there. When the asylum was closed, the buildings of the asylum became state office buildings. I guess the asylum never really closed.
