The Beltway sniper attacks? Video games.
And now the Clackamas mall shooting? Also video games, according to nationally recognized former attorney and anti-video game crusader Jack Thompson.
On Tuesday afternoon, shooter Jacob Tyler Roberts, 22, armed himself with a semi-automatic AR-15 and went on a rampage at the Clackamas Town Center in Portland, Oregon. He killed two and wounded another before committing suicide.
Thompson said in an interview that “Given this guy's method, his age group and the randomness of it, it's more likely than not that he rehearsed for this on games.”
It’s hardly the first time he has jumped to that conclusion in the hours and days following a mass shooting.
Thompson has blamed video games, particularly the Grand Theft Auto franchise, for nearly every shooting imaginable.

It’s the culture, we agree. But then, once you start listing the elements of the culture that contribute to the moral decay of the citizenry, such as video games, melodic (!) death metal, Hollywood, etc, consumers, fans and users of these genres immediately rise up with protests and sophomoric arguments defending the violent trash.
Never mind the fact that the schools are teaching subjective reality and the parents don’t know what the kids are watching or playing.
Hollywood is only one tiny piece of the puzzle and removing it won’t make much difference. Andrew Kehoe blew up the school in Bath Michigan in 1927 killing more than any other mass killer in American history and I don’t even think wireless radio was in common usage then. He was hardly the first.

I’ve always preferred strategy type games.
I haven’t played any in years but the first Metal Gear game was set up so you actually did better by killing only a handful of targets and sneaking past most of the enemies in the game.

The Clackmas shooter was wearing a Guy Fawkes mask and Clint Tarver originally said the guy who started trashing the tent in Lansing was wearing a devil mask but when shown a Guy Fawkes mask he said that’s exactly what it was.

I saw the Lansing video and there was definitely a guy with a Guy Fawkes mask there.

In Conn. and recently in the case where the boy killed his mom and sister (mom was a teacher and assistant principal), it appears that both moms could sense trouble and attempted to clamp down and help their boys.
The one pulled her two kids out of school and began homeschooling.
In the Conn. case, we are learning Adam’s mom stopped working so she could better help Adam.
And this is the reward they got - gunshots to the head.
Add in a touch of Asperger’s related obsessive/compulsive issues.

It’s a combination of things.
Boys have become a new breed.
They are drugged for ADHD more than girls.
Education has been “reformed” to make sure teaching methods help girls excel.
And they do....locally, when we go to senior awards night - the girls are cleaning up those scholarships.
Valedictorians and salutorians....there are some boys here and there, but girls dominate that too.
They are outnumbering the boys in college.
There are a whole lot of video gaming, pot smoking, shiftless boys out there. Their hair is died black. Their clothes are black with chains. They are covered with tattoos and piercings.
They play their angry music and shoot people on their video games.
This “shooter” was stopped by a CCW permit holder who drew down on him, and decided not to fire for fear of hitting bystander in line of sight. CCW person was seen by the “shooter” before they decided to shoot themselves dead.
This HAS NOT been in media reports about this.
Crap now I can’t find the civilian calls to 911 but the police are calling it a “Hockey type” mask.

I actually looked this afternoon at this info. People think this is a new phenomena. I was shocked at the 1927 Kehoe incident. Sort of sounded like OK City.
I will say that until recent times, there seemed to be a designated “target”. Bullying seems to be the most recent “reason”. Not a good reason...but at least some kind of reason. But walking into a mall, theater or classroom of first graders to kill evades me.
The media gives 24/7 coverage to these events. That may well encourage other people to seek that kind of notoriety. What a way to gain fame.
It is kind of amazing (and scary) the number of unhinged people that seem to walk among us. No doubt it’s always been that way.
Its also important to note that more people = more targets and more nuts. Combine it with 24/7 media and they create the impression of an epidemic.
I was talking to my grandmother tonight and she reminded me of a story my great grandmother told me years ago about someone killing several children in a 1 room school near Petosky Michigan back in 1908 or so.
The fact is that this sort of thing has happened all through history one way or the other where people are gathered.
