George P. Bush moves toward seeking office in Texas

George P. Bush of Fort Worth, the son of a former governor, and a grandson and nephew of former U.S. presidents, has filed paperwork with the Texas Ethics Commission, seemingly in preparation for a run for local or statewide office.

As first reported by The New Republic, Bush, 36, filed what is called an "appointment of a campaign treasurer by a candidate" form, which Texas Ethics Commission general Counsel Tim Sorrells said is required of someone who is a candidate.

The report, filed Wednesday, does not indicate which office Bush has his eye on. That might become more evident on Jan. 15, the next deadline for campaign finance reports.

He is a son of former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, grandson of former President George H. W. Bush and a nephew of former president and Texas governor George W. Bush.

Bush keeps residences in Fort Worth, where his wife works as an attorney, and in Austin where he is a partner in Pennybacker Capital.

He co-founded the Hispanic Republicans of Texas Political Action Committee. He is considered one of the GOP's rising Latino stars and told the Tribune in March that "politics is in his blood." He declined then to speculate about any immediate plans to seek office, although speculation has centered on a run for comptroller.

Bush said that on issues such as immigration, he was a George W. Bush Republican -- a moderate.

Hmmm. I thought this last *election* proved that a.) The Bush name is tainted and b.) hispanics don't vote for republicans...they vote for Santa Claus.

Good luck with that, Jorge.

You can’t do it just by last name; you’ll have to do it by genetic sequencing.

I saw Democrat attack ads against Canseco on the San Antonio CBS channel; they were devastating. I saw Canseco’s response ads; they were totally ineffective.

Goodness, I didn’t know George P. is planning to run for governor; I thought he was looking for one of the lower statewide offices like agriculture commissioner, not that he knows anything about that office either. He could send TX into the blue column as so many have been expecting for so long now.

Unable to click on a link?

Here it is. Read it and weep for your own ignorance.

Sec. 301. [8 U.S.C. 1401] The following shall be nationals and citizens of the United States at birth: (c) a person born outside of the United States and its outlying possessions of parents both of whom are citizens of the United States and one of whom has had a residence in the United States or one of its outlying possessions, prior to the birth of such person;

Notice please that it says NOTHING about this U.S. law being rendered moot if the place outside the United States grants them citizenship as well.

U.S. law is not subordinate to foreign law - even if you really really want it to be. It isn’t.

You said... “Georgie’s father was a Mexican citizen. This cancelled out Georgie being a U.S. citizen.” that is wrong.

You asked when George Romney became a U.S. citizen and I answered you - he became one at birth.

You asked according to what law, and I provided a link.

You were too lazy to follow a link - so now I quoted the law.

But you read something from Google once - so I guess US law and facts do not mean anything to you. You are really amusing!
