Posted on 11/07/2012 6:14:47 PM PST by BelleAl
I spent a great time talking to my sweet, but sometimes clueless daughters about the impact of this election. They tend to see themselves as more progressive - pro gay marriage, global warming, etc... (before you guys flame away, please know I did my best -- this is college academic influence on them). The sense I get from them and from my conversations today with friends and acquaintances, is that there seems to be a overwhelming atmosphere of regret or to be more graphic and explicit...an oh s__t, what did we just do attitude.
I don't see an in-your-face hurrah jubilation like 4 years ago (except among the DBM)...just a quiet, somber reaction. I wonder if you guys are sensing that and if so, is it registering in Washington? The dynamics are definitely different this time around and I hope it is seen as unsettling to those in power. I'm feeling an edge, a vibe of unrest, uncertainty.
Did you throw in the mid life crisis sports car?
Ha! They wish!! No, my girls are great -I love them like crazy. Smart as a whip, but often as is the case. —book smart, but brain dead!

Said the same thing to my son today and last night when he was witnessing all the hate coming out of the people who won the election — directed at people who did not vote for Obama. They won and yet they were furious at anyone who didn’t follow their leader. Today in class they watched Hitler give an acceptance speech. He said the irony was lost on all of them. Including the professor.
I had a hard time communicating with anyone today. All I could think was half the people I see everyday voted for Obama. They are destroying the future of my children and this great country.
“One fellow was intimidating a young lady on Facebook who didnt vote for Obama.”
Yes, I see and hear that stuff all the time on there. I was posting some stuff among friends and one of my 18yo daughter’s long-time friends posted some comment indicating she thought anyone who didn’t vote for 0 was racist (thought provoking comment, I must say/s) and she asked that we delete her. So I did.
My own 18yo daughter, whom we’ve been carting to the voting booth with us since she was born, DID NOT vote for 0.
May each of them get food poising each time they eat.
Considering trade center one in the 1990s and again in 2001, one wonders if it is possible to shock them into learning.
It least I’m proud to say, “It ain’t my fault; I didn’t vote for the SOBama!”
Interesting thought. Even Obama didn’t seem confident near the end. I bet some assumed they could be cool and vote Obama and have the adults cancel out their stupidity. Then Obama won. And reality came crashing down on them. Only time will tell.
wonderfully put. I avoided any likely venues for
celebration in 2008. this year “eerie silence” just
about sums it up.
Interestingly enough did the same today.
At lunch today in a local restaurant, I overhead a couple of older gentlemen (white collar, 50s-60s) discussing options for liquidating business assets.
It's started, people.
Sort of like tug of war, except our side "dropped" the rope (which might have been due to vote fraud on THEIR side) and it all went slack in their hands and they fell back on their behinds with a crash? Whoops.
Mixed here. Daughter #1 totally pro-Obama because she wants women to be able to kill babies. To her, brown skin good, unlimited immigration good, clueless on economic issues. I told her a robust economy is the only thing that can fund her utopian socialist dreams, but she doesn’t get it. Daughter #2 not political, but would never vote Romney. Son #3 has his head screwed on straight. Nephew #1 just got commissioned in the Marine Corps and totally anti-Obama...really knows what’s going on. Nephew #2 and Niece #3 — wishy washy.
Heck, we’ve got both the Islamists and the Muslims saying they will destroy this country from within, and it’s still considered “conspiracy lunacy” to simply agree that they self-admittedly want to destroy us.
The media and its hypnotic drone that the government will take care of everything if we only give them the keys and fall a...s...l.....e......e.....p is truly boiling the frog without it even knowing, because the heat is increased, the body adjusts, the heat increases....
At this point our society as a whole is incapable of seeing the truth, even when it hits us between the eyeballs. As Yuri Bezmenov would say, the demoralization is complete.
An example of this is the HI state registrar confirming that they have no legally-valid birth record for Obama and that the White House image is a forgery. We’ve gotten the official answer in a legal response, the state SOS’s have all been informed of that fact, and it’s still being treated as if it’s a nonsense issue. It seems like a piddly thing because the media ridicules it, but Obama would not have been able to literally watch 4 Americans die (in Benghazi in order to cover up his own transfer of Ghadaffi’s weapons to Islamists in Syria) if the crimes he had committed to occupy our White House as a foreign enemy combatant had been seriously investigated.
Yet even the blatant treason shown by Obama in regards to Benghazi will not wake people to what he is really doing. He told the Egyptian ambassador in January of 2010 that he was and still is a Muslim who supports the Muslim agenda and that the Muslim world (who Ghadaffi publicly said had contributed to get Obama elected in the hopes that he would serve Muslim interests...) needed to be patient with him while he crammed Obamacare down our throats and then he would get started on the Muslim agenda. The agenda all sects of Islam agree on is the destruction of the US and Israel and the institution of worldwide sharia.
And sure enough, once Obamacare was forced on us, he supported the Arab Spring stuff that resulted in 2 allies in the war on terror being ousted and replaced by Islamist regimes who have released terrorists from prison (including those who attacked our embassy in Egypt on 9-11-12). The ousting of Ghadaffi resulted in 20,000 manpads that could bring down a US airliner being “lost” and presumably in the hands of our enemies. And now he is routing Ghadaffi’s weapons to Islamists in Syria via Turkey, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia.
And America sleeps the whole while, content with their Obamaphone on the backs of the taxpayers. While our White House is entertaining a lot of power players who intend to push America to sharia so they can publicly whip women who drive or show up in public without wearing the burka and hijab, stone women who are accused of being in the same room as a non-related man or who have been raped, hang homosexuals, and behead anybody who either converted out of Islam or refused to convert TO Islam.... these people thump their chests and proclaim a “victory for women” because Obamacare forces Mother Teresa to pay for condoms and birth control pills, or abortions if they’re just too lazy to use the birth control the government gave them.
Oh, and did I mention that Obama is negotiating with the Islamists to release the guy who planned the WTC bombing that you referenced? The terrorists’ reaction to Obama being re-elected: demand that he “accept the will” of the Islamists. Obama told Russia’s Medvedev that he would have “more flexibility” (to give in more to Russia) after the election and has already turned tail and run while our hero, Tyrone Woods, begged for standard military protocols to help him protect the CIA annex in Benghazi. Does anybody really think that this communist-Islamist puppet, “21st-century Brave Sir Robyn”, will stand up to the demands of the Islamists who funded his campaign?
I fear that America will be under sharia before Obama’s next 4 years are up, and America will be sleeping under the influence of a date-rape drug all the while.
If my socialist daughter wants gigantic statism, hates capitalism, and would rather “fundamentally change” our country, then why should she benefit from my lifetime of sweat and toil in a free and prosperous capitalist society? The past few weeks, I’ve been mulling over writing her out of my will. Or maybe tell her half of her inheritance was given to a conservative charity because she dislikes capitalism so much. Or maybe require her to get a degree with straight A’s from Hillsdale College before my executor will pay her a dime. I won’t do these things, of course, but I’ve sure been dreaming about them a lot lately. I don’t want to be vindictive to my own flesh and blood, but she has me boiling mad. She’s a smart woman totally devoid of common sense or any knowledge of how the world works... a typical mid-20s brainwashed skull full of mush.
My daughter saw Obama speak at the University of Oregon in spring of 2008. She called me gushing “He wants to change the country!” while walking home from the rally. I asked her what does he want to change and how? What do YOU want to change and why? What was wrong with your upbringing that makes you think we need to change? What is wrong with the US that needs changing? Not a SINGLE answer to any of those questions. She voted for him again this time, even after I told her the facts about his abomination of an administration. All that matters to her is women being able to kill their babies. Nothing else even exists with her. It is SO, SO sad for me on a personal level to have raised an intelligent and successful daughter that is so devoid of any common sense.
That is what I have seen. They feel some sort of high school click pressure (and these are adults)to vote, or say they voted for, Obama. But I saw about 5 of them today who had that “oh, no, what happens now that he won” look. Thanks to Lou Dobbs and some others, word started getting out last night and this morning about the costs we in the middle class will pay in new taxes and the loss of jobs. Kids in college are so screwed. They’ll be working part time waiter jobs for a long time.
I’ve seen nothing of the sort, in fact the opposite. They’re incredibly smug and self-satisfied about the damage which they inflicted to the country.
College Kids, for a large part, are really dumb these days. They have such a lack of common sense. They are easily distracted.
And I plan on making a lot of money off those little empty headed, reality tv wannabes.
Many of my fellow Texans in the south of the state are already protecting the border on their own.
Come on to Texas. Just avoid Austin. It is a liberal crap hole. Most of us refer to it as the People’s Republic of Austin. Congressman John Carter calls Austin...”San Francisco Light”.
Tyler is awesome. Cowtown Rocks. “If you ever have the chance to go to Dallas, pass it by”.
“Good job, Christian.”
Thank you for the epithet. I’ll take it.
I'm not objecting to that. But we've noticed a certain drift in power from state/local governments to the center since 1789. I am arguing that the drift in power is structural, not cyclical.
To be precise, I am arguing that the Constitution is actually flawed in its balance of powers because the balance is not inherently stable. It does not describe a real "balance", merely an initial state. Imagine, if you will, a see-saw perfectly level, with a fat kid on one end and a skinny kid on the other. We know where things will end up.
And if you look back over the course of history, making a straight line from 2012 to 1789, was there ever a time when states and localities reclaimed some power from the federal government? Was there some great wave in one year or other when the tide turned and all of a sudden, states started to actually get more power? Rather, the absence of any events like this is pretty striking.
I wont do these things, of course, but Ive sure been dreaming about them a lot lately.
Why do you feel obligated to pass on the fruit of your labor to someone who expects a free lunch?
And they can always count on plenty of support for that position, right here on FR. :’)
What's the punishment for not paying the fine? Will people go to prison, I wonder?
Many of the people who publicly pushed for the legislation were granted waivers.
I believe it's an acronym for "I totally agree".
See these libs dont give a damn about other people suffering, but when its THEM suffering then they will think twice about that oh so wonderful Socialist Utopia
I'd like to see that as well but I think it is more likely that celebrities will be given tax "waivers" like unions have been given Obamacare waivers.
You are correct! :-)
That's the really strange thing. All my kids have an outstanding work ethic and understand there is no free lunch. They've all worked jobs from age 13 or so. They are all getting good careers started in this horrible economy. They will take any job to get started and never complain about starting at the bottom. Daughter #1 is completely on her own with an excellent marketing position after finishing grad school last June. Daughter #2 graduated last June with her BS degree and is working 3, sometimes 4 jobs in the field she loves. We shove them out and they know they have to make their own way in the world.
The peer forces, forces of "educators," forces of media and entertainment are very powerful and have corrupted their critical thinking skills when it comes to society at large and how and why civilizations succeed or fail.
I'm still hopeful they will come round as they age and begin to really understand the world around them, especially as things continue to deteriorate. I know in my 20s I was ignorant of existential threats to our civilization and it wasn't until my 30s I really came around.
That's why I'm cutting them some slack.
Our experiences are very similar. My daughter were nicely conservative, veered libertarian with the gay issues, now just plain lefty. We cannot discuss politics any more. What I am resenting most is the smug, holier-than-thou attitude. She works at being respectful until it comes to politics, then you can see her swallowing her tongue.
Have any of your lib friends’ kids turned conservative or is it only a one-way street? I’ve only seen it go that one way.
How do you ‘unfriend’ on FB? I don’t want to quit because many of my ‘friends’ are family, out of town adult nieces and nephews with kids who I would never hear about but for FB updtes and pix. But I have totally had it with some and don’t know how to go about unfriending individuals.

This is the exact case with my middle daughter — read Atlas Shrugged — bent libertarian — but now leaning left. Just.don’t.get.it. Thank God she at least didn’t vote for Obama! Your description of the superior attitude is right on — and I’m the one accused of not being open-minded by her!
My family is all in the Tyler area, and west Texas (Odessa, El Paso). I think Texans ought to make a concerted effort to get Austin back, because like a bad virus, once those liberals infect your capital, they start spreading.
“How do you unfriend on FB? “
I don’t unfriend, I just block their posts from showing up on my newsfeed. That way they can rant and rave to no avail with respect to me. It’s like I have my fingers in my ears and I’m saying — I can’t hear you! Only they can’t see this.
I only do this for obnoxious posters — those whose purpose is not to share an opinion, but to spread propaganda.
The clash between the Left and Sharia can’t come soon enough for me because at that point something’s gotta give. Right now we have two bullies, may they turn on and destroy one another and sanity and prosperity return to this great nation.
“I think Texans ought to make a concerted effort to get Austin back,”
My opinion of Austin is this. They have great pride in being weird and are so in great numbers. But, here’s the catch... if everyone is weird, doesn’t that become the new “normal.” It’s easy to be “weird” when everyone else is. To me, weird is different, not like everyone else.
Find them in your newsfeed or on a posting they’ve made (or in your friends list), as you hover over their link, a popup shows them as “Friends”, there is a menu item under that to “Unfriend”.
You can also just stop getting their news in your feed, by unchecking “Show in News Feed.” If they are relatives, that might be the most prudent option since then you can still go over there and see what they are up to without having it in your face every single day.
I feel the same. I told a group of ‘tackle-box heads’ (people with more earrings, nose rings, tongue rings, etc) that they ought to wear a suit once in a while to really stand out. They looked like I threw dog poo in their face.
Thanks. It was just an ex girlfriend of one of my sons who’d just posted one too many stupid “I vote my crotch” statuses, who was just delighted that Mitt lost. Don’t need that in my face any more.
Thank you for your reply. After I posted I feared it was in error, since your name is OT, I considered the possibility you might be an Israel hating Jew, rather than an America hating Christian.
Just out of curiosity, and I know I have no right to demand an answer, who did you vote for?
Did you write Jesus Christ in? I couldn’t find Him anywhere on my California ballot.
She may smarten up quite a bit in the crucible of the next few years.
Oh, and, you misspelled “epitaph”...
Feel better now?
Probably not. Nor does a soul in the world care.
Your moniker is apt.
One of my father’s favorite sayings: Too Smart Too Dumb.
The democrats did a masterful job at creating ‘fear’ among the youth. Fear of the loss of abortion rights and fear that Romney wanted them all barefoot and pregnant.
They ‘feared’ a return to the 50’s. It made no sense.
The structure is not in the document, it is in human nature.
the Constitution is actually flawed in its balance of powers because the balance is not inherently stable.
Yes. It was (hmmm, past tense, was) a pretty good attempt to set up a system where the instability rocked between the branches in a sustainable fashion.
“Oh, and, you misspelled epitaph...”
I would accept ‘Christian’ as both an epithet and an epitaph.
You might want to invest in a thesaurus however if you don’t know the difference, or be more careful if you do. Some people could and would construe that as a threat. I recognize your utter and absolute impotence however so no worries here.
I would LOVE to help!
Perhaps some FReeper knows a semiconductor fab in Austin that would be willing to hire a Californian, thinking they are getting a liberal, but instead get me?
