000 NOUS41 KPHI 281841 PNSPHI DEZ001>004-MDZ008-012-015-019-020-NJZ001-007>010-012>027-PAZ054- 055-060>062-067>071-291200-

PUBLIC INFORMATION STATEMENT NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE MOUNT HOLLY NJ 241 PM EDT SUN OCT 28 2012

...AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS STORM TO IMPACT THE AREA...

SANDY IS EXPECTED TO SLAM INTO THE NEW JERSEY COAST LATER MONDAY NIGHT, BRINGING VERY HEAVY RAIN AND DAMAGING WINDS TO THE REGION. THE STORM IS A LARGE ONE, THEREFORE DO NOT FOCUS ON THE EXACT CENTER OF THE STORM AS ALL AREAS WILL HAVE SIGNIFICANT IMPACTS.

THIS HAS THE POTENTIAL TO BE AN HISTORIC STORM, WITH WIDESPREAD WIND DAMAGE AND POWER OUTAGES, INLAND AND COASTAL FLOODING, AND MASSIVE BEACH EROSION. THE COMBINATION OF THE HEAVY RAIN AND PROLONGED WIND WILL CREATE THE POTENTIAL FOR LONG LASTING POWER OUTAGES AND SERIOUS FLOODING.

PREPARATIONS SHOULD BE WRAPPING UP AS CONDITIONS ARE EXPECTED TO WORSEN TONIGHT AND ESPECIALLY ON MONDAY.

SOME IMPORTANT NOTES...

1. IF YOU ARE BEING ASKED TO EVACUATE A COASTAL LOCATION BY STATE AND LOCAL OFFICIALS, PLEASE DO SO.

2. IF YOU ARE RELUCTANT TO EVACUATE, AND YOU KNOW SOMEONE WHO RODE OUT THE `62 STORM ON THE BARRIER ISLANDS, ASK THEM IF THEY COULD DO IT AGAIN.

3. IF YOU ARE RELUCTANT, THINK ABOUT YOUR LOVED ONES, THINK ABOUT THE EMERGENCY RESPONDERS WHO WILL BE UNABLE TO REACH YOU WHEN YOU MAKE THE PANICKED PHONE CALL TO BE RESCUED, THINK ABOUT THE RESCUE/RECOVERY TEAMS WHO WILL RESCUE YOU IF YOU ARE INJURED OR RECOVER YOUR REMAINS IF YOU DO NOT SURVIVE.

4. SANDY IS AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS STORM. THERE WILL BE MAJOR PROPERTY DAMAGE, INJURIES ARE PROBABLY UNAVOIDABLE, BUT THE GOAL IS ZERO FATALITIES.

5. IF YOU THINK THE STORM IS OVER-HYPED AND EXAGGERATED, PLEASE ERR ON THE SIDE OF CAUTION.

WE WISH EVERYONE IN HARMS WAY ALL THE BEST. STAY SAFE!

DC is getting set to get the S*** storm now gaining stregnth over the Azores. It’s a named storm, Ben Ghazi, set to hit the area some time in the next week after the media has siphoned off the news from “Sandy” during the next week.

It will not be a dud, this is the real thing. It has claimed four American victims so far, including the American ambassador.

It will not go away and will not veer off into the Atlantic.

What? Can anything manmade survive 80 mph wind gusts? Who is asking this ridiculous question?

The one I saw tonight — a guy standing on the beach in NJ, looked real. The wind was blowing him around pretty good.

The charts show the area within which the storm might go. It won’t literally spread out that wide.

I'm a meteorologist. Have been for 25 years.

It's not hyped. The winds, because of structure, are not near the center. They are removed to the NE and SW. The pressure is low and will get lower. The issue, however, is sustained strong winds over an area. This will do 2 things: Power outages and surge. The angle of approach...the strong winds...will combine to give massive surge over NJ and NY. Add heavy rain on top of that.

I've never seen anything like it...a storm this big and headed WNW (eventually) towards the coast. It's once in a lifetime to see this sort of setup.

Feels different to me too. Not there, though. Talked to a few reasonable people there today.

How does it feel different?

I am looking at the sat. photo. It’s quite impressive.

Obama’s loss will be blamed on the Hurricane. His people were without power and couldn’t get out to vote.

The heavy use of emotional adjectives and hyperbole in releases that are typically dry and clinical to a fault is curious, isn’t it? It’s like NOAA is going through manopause or something.

I am sure the Obama administration handed NOAA a report and said release this, and they did.

Just be glad we have real time weather communications nowadays. Anyone who thinks storm warnings are hyperbole should read about the Galveston storm of the early 1900s. And detailed accounts of the 1938 “Long Island Express” hurricane.

“This is the Obama administration never letting a crisis go to waste. This storm is just barely a hurricane, and may well be a just a tropical storm when it makes landfall. They are way overplaying this to take Benghazi out of the news focus.”

Is Benghazi even IN the news focus? Maybe it is in the places where we get our news, but in my opinion at least 70% of the country has no idea what’s going on beyond “something happened over there somewhere”

They may use it as best they can but this storm isn’t a joke. I WISH it would peter out. *sigh*
