Posted on 09/22/2012 11:44:48 AM PDT by Kaslin
At a time when 23 million Americans are unemployed and unemployed, the national debt is exploding, and poverty rates are the highest theyve ever been, the national media should be focused on issues of paramount importance. That didnt happen on Friday. Instead, at a Meet the Candidate event in Florida sponsored by Univision, a bunch of Lefty bloggers accused Governor Romney of darkening his skin in order to curry favor with Latino voters. Appalling:
Mitt Romney appeared on Univision's "Meet the Candidate" event on Wednesday evening to talk about issues of importance to Latino voters, including immigration, education and foreign policy. But thousands of bloggers, Facebook subscribers and Twitter users across the country focused more on the candidate's complexion than on his message.
Social media platforms were abuzz on Wednesday with the insinuation that the GOP candidate had somehow darkened his skin before coming on Univision's forum. The accusation was reported on by The Huffington Post, Gawker and Wonkette, among others, receiving thousands of comments on the sites combined.
So is it true? Of course not:
Here at ABC/Univision, we wanted to clear the air a bit and find out what really happened.
So we asked the man who saw it first hand -- makeup artist Lazz Rodriguez, who applied powder and concealer to the candidate's skin that night. The verdict?
"When he walked in, I remember thinking, 'Wow this is tanner than I thought he was,' but I think he's just been outside a lot lately for his campaign," Rodriguez noted. "It was definitely a real tan."
Rodriguez has been a makeup artist for 25 years, and has applied cosmetics to hundreds of famous faces, including many celebrities and politicians, and a handful of presidents.
Rodriguez says that his makeup of choice for the evening was MAC NW30, a medium-range loose powder that he applies to "cut the glare" of stage lights.
The ABC/Univision News team decided to investigate the claims that Romney was wearing powder that was too dark, stopping in at the local Miami MAC store after Thursday's "Meet the Candidate" event with Obama to test out the exact make and model. Indeed, we concluded after various trials that the NW30 was a medium-ranged hue that looked natural on a range of beige skin tones. The color was perhaps a tad too dark on Politics Editor Jordan Fabian, just about right on reporter Julia Saenz, and a shade too light on Miami-boy and Managing Editor Fernando Rodriguez-Vila. But, even when we caked the stuff on, NW30 wasn't notably dark on a range of skin tones under harsh lights.
"I also don't want this to jeopardize a career I've worked so hard to build in this field," he said. "He was tan from being out in the sun on the campaign trail -- that's the only possible explanation."
Im a bit surprised by the frivolity of these accusations. Then again, if the guy I was supporting for president (a candidate who campaigned on the slogan Hope & Change in 2008) admitted during a Q & A session you cant change Washington from the inside, its easy to understand why liberals are freaking out. Forward!
Clinton did used to change his hair color if I remember correctly.
And Obama whitened skin at a midwestern state fair
I don’t think I’ve ever seen the leftist pigs more desperate than they are now.
Was he this dark?
He is too “white.”
He is too “dark.”
He is too “rich.”
He is too “inexperienced.”
Nothing will cure their insanity, it will go on forever, may as well just ignore them (that pizzes them off too).
Who did his makeup for the show?
It is odd but I was watching a re-run of a TV series last night and would have sworn the actress who was wearing a Cleopatra outfit, had darkened her skin.
Maybe to look more Egyptian, maybe just the way the light was but it sure did look like it. So much that I thought it was noticeable.
Have the lefty bloggers ever commented on the cover up of O’s purple lips?
Let me get this straight: they investigated Romney's makeup?
This is the same kneepad media that couldn't be bothered with all the inconsistencies in Obama's past?
Coppertone Kerry! People aren’t usually orange without chemical assistance or too many carrots in their diet.
I notice that although every picture of Moochelle’s ass makes it look big, others make it look totally Bathsheba Butt gargantuan. Camera angle? Airbrushing? Alien butt pods about to hatch? :^0
So what did they say when Hitlery used the worst southern accent in the history of the world in front of a southern audience? (”I am no ways tired...” Her southern accent was worse than the 3 or 4 times that Keanu Reeves turned his on in the movie Devil’s Advocate.)
How about Biden telling a black crowd that “they’ll put y’all back in chains!!” Nope, Romney is the travesty here.
Hillary Clinton adopts a southern drawl
And the page who brought Romney’s tray of food to the green room noted that Romney ate nothing else but a mini taco and a slice of mango, both known to be Mexican treats.
And he forgot to remove the cockroach that woke him up that morning.
That's the tan John (F'n) Kerry got while he was in Vietnam.
“or too many carrots in their diet.”
How about tomatoes? I’m sure that guy gets ketchup with every meal!;)
Does that go with the rumor that he had bought a Kielbasa just prior to his speech to the NAACP?
Lets see: if he drives a White car he is dissing Blacks.
If he drives a Black car he is dissing Blacks.
If he uses salt and not pepper he is dissing blacks.
If he uses pepper and not salt he is dissing blacks.
This Romney fella is surely a Racist SOB....
Romney must have done pretty darned well, if they are reduced to complaining about his tan!
What do they mean ‘juiced’?!?
All of these phony townhalls that Obama has done where they have pretend ‘ordinary’ people who just turn out to be union leaders, Democrat activists and friends of Democrat politicians ... is that what they mean?
Are we to beleive Romney has Latino friends and Obama doesnt?!?!
Is this real life
And Hitlery can't do a damn thing to dress up that mug of hers, try as she has.
Or that he covers up the fact e's half caucasian? (at least Michael Jackson came "out" in the end.
Obama was a mess answering non-fluff questions. Could it be that Romney gave presidential answers and so the leftist media has to make an issue of his make up. I did not see his session with Univision.
As George Bush and John Kerry go head-to-head in what is considered the most crucial presidential election in generations, America has turned to another issue the colour of Senator Kerrys face.
So-called attack dogs who pledge their allegiance to Republican Mr Bush posted pictures on the internet this week of an orange looking Mr Kerry.
Newspapers picked up the story and even Lynne Cheney, the wife of vice-president Dick Cheney, has commented on the shade of the Democratic challengers tan.
The implication that Mr Kerry has given himself a fake tan follows earlier claims that he had botox treatment to remove wrinkles on his forehead.
The accusation was reported on by The Huffington Post, Gawker and Wonkette, among others...
This is bizarre, though. If there were some kind of trickery involved, you'd suspect the make-up artist. But here the make-up man, Lazz Rodriguez, gives testimony, and says outright that he didn't make Romney up.
Most likely, Romney was tanned from campaigning. If he did apply some spray tan, which is unlikely, what's the big deal? And couldn't that just as well be a way of appealing to Sunbelt voters as Latinos?
Actually, there’s nothing whatsoever wrong with NOT tanning! 300,000,000 redheads say “It’s a good thing”
That ketchup’s for the ol’kielbasa!
"Look very pumpkin-fied to me, and hideous," noted one blogger at www.sunless.com, a Web site devoted to the fine art of tanning by chemical means.
Meanwhile, the Drudge Report proclaimed yesterday that the senator from Massachusetts had gone on orange alert, citing a Harvard Crimson report that noted, College Dems who met Kerry were surprised by his tan skin and tall stature.
Kerrys claims are as phony as the tan he sported on Meet the Press last Sunday, said Jonathan Grella, spokesman for House Majority Leader Tom DeLay, Texas Republican.
*sigh* Memories ...
I suspect it's the Massachusetts sun!
They are not journalists, they are simply part of the Obama campaign.Treat them as such.
If it was a tan job, at least it was better than Kerry's, though I wouldn't advise following this strategy if Romney ever appears on BET.
"You could argue that his ever more pallid complexion made him the pithiest shorthand for pops history: in splendid contrast to Little Richard and Pat Boone, he was the first black singer to become his own lucrative white cover version." -- Mark Steyn
Read the article.
oh bull hockey. that is stupid
And then, the narrator said breathlessly, Goldilocks saw Barack Obama, and said, “He’s just right.”
They described it as a clueless Al Jolsonish attempt to hispander.
They've posted pics from earlier in the day to compare and contrast, close-ups, different angles...they're obsessing.
It looks like he stayed a little too long in a tanning bed (there is a distinct untanned area that a hat wouldn't explain.) It's the timing that seems to be an unfortunate coincidence.
Forget tanning beds; the geniuses over at DU spend way too much time with their heads in toaster ovens.
why don’t ya’ll listen to the video - and pass that along instead of even repeating this ‘face color’ deflecting.
Watching the video and the crowds reaction - no wonder the media is pushing this face color story - and EVERYONE who discusses it, pro or con - keeps the story going, aiding and abetting
so how about passing along the actual link to the video?
