Florida Senate: Nelson (D) 47%, Mack (R) 40%
Rasmussen Reports ^ | 9-16-12 | Scott Rasmussen

emocratic incumbent Bill Nelson still leads Republican Connie Mack in Florida's hotly contested U.S. Senate race.

A new Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of Likely Voters in the Sunshine State finds Nelson with 47% support to Mack’s 40%. Five percent (5%) prefer some other candidate, while eight percent (8%) are undecided. (To see survey question wording, click here.)

The latest findings show no change from mid-August. Florida remains Leans Democrat in the Rasmussen Reports Senate Balance of Power rankings. Nelson was first elected to the Senate in 2006 to fill the seat vacated by Mack’s father.

President Obama has now moved slightly ahead in the presidential race in Florida despite the presence of the Republican National Convention in Tampa late last month. But Florida remains a Toss-Up in the Rasmussen Reports Electoral College Projections.

Nelson is viewed favorably by 51% of Florida voters and unfavorably by 38%. This includes 21% with a Very Favorable opinion and 20% with a Very Unfavorable one.

For Mack, favorables are 40% and unfavorables 48%, including 17% with a Very Favorable view of him and 24% with a Very Unfavorable one. This marks little change for either man from a month ago.

Florida polls have been all over the place and I have no idea what to expect there in November. Input from Florida Freepers would be helpful.

Unfortunately Mack is an easy target for personal attack ads. Conversely, Nelson, as much as his policies are abhorrent, has a pretty clean personal and ethical profile.

>> A month or so ago, there was a poll that had Mack up by about 7 points, I believe. Many were skeptical and looks like they had good reason to be. <<

I was one of those who didn't buy the "most electable" stuff the GOP establishment touted about Mack in the primary. His "support" was namely due to name ID because of his famous dad, he personally was never terribly popular or likeable, but then some random "poll" shows up right before the primary campaigning showing he's stronger against Nelson than anyone else for some unknown reason. The numbers now have him at 40% favorable and 48% unfavorable. If that holds we're in big trouble. Nelson is running a scorched earth campaign and Mack isn't fighting back.

I'd hold my nose and vote for the twerp if I lived in Florida, but Mack better WAKE UP and get his campaign together or I'll be saying "I told you so" after November to the freepers who told us this RINO would be such a great candidate.
