UPDATE: 11:30 a.m. ET: James Holmes, the suspect in the Colorado theater massacre, appeared in a Colorado courtroom on Monday. A judge advised Holmes of his Miranda rights, and that there was probable cause to continue to hold him without bond on suspicion of first-degree murder.
Holmes, who was transported from from a holding cell to the courtroom via an underground tunnel, appeared dazed: his brow furrowed, his eyes opening and closing often. His hair was dyed red. He did not speak.
Seated in a jury box next public defender Tamara Brady, Holmes never looked towards a gallery that included about two dozen victims and victims advocates.
The preliminary hearing lasted for about 11 minutes. Holmes' next court appearance is July 30.

If you’re an old timer who has changed their screen name or if your original post was sarcasm on your part, I’m sorry. I must admit, it went right over my head.
What you have here is a young man coming to the realization that he has thrown his life away and is facing a living hell for the remainder of his time on earth.
When he was planning these atrocities, no doubt he had delusions of grandeur. Maybe he thought he was going to become some sort of cult hero. He might even have envisioned escaping the scene of his crimes, at least temporarily, and watching the news unfold on a motel TV as he planned to drift across the country and melt away into the landscape.
Instead, he was caught almost immediately and slammed into a jail cell where he has had the entire weekend in isolation to think about what he has done and what lies ahead of him.
This is not the look of an insane or drugged man. This is the look of a man who now realizes he has done something horrible and will never take another free breath again. He will be locked up in a prison cell the rest of his life and that's not even the worst of it. He will need to watch his back at all times as his fellow inmates will want to hurt or kill him at the first opportunity. He won't even be able to take a bite of prison food without wondering whether somebody spit or peed in it or worse (and you know they will).
In short, it's all downhill from here for this wretched human being. With the deeds done, there is nothing good to look forward to in this lifetime. Nothing. This is the look of a man who is staring into the abyss.

In cases like this, the best thing to do to stop copy cats in this infamous me...me...society is total cut off cameras, news, interviews, etc.
By taking the commercialism out of it, it will help cut the fame seekers at the knees. Close the courtroom to the public and even the artist! Allow only affected families to attend a quick trial, quick sentence, quick appeal and done inside six months.

I have always wondered what part of your brain do you have to shut down in order to follow through with plans for mass murder. You can plan a project for anything. Somewhere along the way you change your mind and just not start your project. This POS didn’t change his mind. He followed through. How does someone do that?
One of the survivors asked a very good question from his hospital bed. Paraphrasing because I don’t have the exact quote, “What was it about your life that was so bad that you felt like you had to go kill innocent people?” Best question I’ve heard from this tragedy.

There were some early reports of a loud boom or explosion at the apartment before the shootings that no one called in. We’ll have to see what later reports say about it.

My take is that thankfully this guy was a lot less capable with firearms than the Norway shooter, or the death toll would have been a lot higher.

Still I do see some plausibility in your “programming comments” related to this killer. Something does smell about this case and the whole gestalt of its planning and execution; if not black ops, then perhaps something of a more darker order.
I don’t really know the answer to that. I think it’s possible. This guy was very intelligent. I don’t know if schizophrenia wipes out intelligence or just twists it to irrational thoughts and acts through its delusions.

Obviously you have no concept or idea on the obsessive compulsive nature of a mental illness. Not defending what he did. It has been shown men in the twenties get schizophrenia. I saw a video on FOX today where he spoke at a Science shingdig. he seemed very normal. From reports that have been simmering to the top, he had been planning this for months. Something in him snapped. What? We may never know. But the focus and determination can very well be part of the mental illness he suffers from. I do want to say what he did was heinous in every way. I do not condone what he did.

I know from experience, since my own brother is diagnosed schizophrenic. I have been with him to group sessions with other people who suffer from the same, and they ALL have these same mannerisms. It only took a few moments of watching that video too see it.
He is just about at the right age for onset, and early on in the disease, it can be mild at times, and severe at other times.
I’m not convinced this guy had any idea these were real people, in a real theater, or if he was in some type of mental video game. Schizophrenia is like that. My brother was convinced he was bugsy malone for half a year. It was not an act. As far as he was concerned, he was.
Someone knew he was ill, and he should have been treated. Many people do many evil acts, and this was a very evil act, but I’m not convinced it truly came from a lucid need to kill people. He is VERY ill.
Totally agree. I saw horror in his eyes. That realization of “what have I done?”. Video games aren’t real life. Reality is knocking on his door. Playing the joker sounded like a good thing at the time for him when life was in disarray. World of Warcraft and role playing games might dominate one’s head and it can blur the lines of fact and fiction. Throw in a bit of developing mental illness and your take makes perfect sense.

After looking through some stills and videos, I’m more inclined to believe your assessment. Also, detoxification looks different across different types of drugs. DTs from alcohol vs. DTs from narcotics, for instance, are quite different. However, given the vacant stare and the complete lack of affect, I think you’re right about the anti-psychs.
I don’t think you wrong in what you see. I too see very similar things.
He wasn’t meant to survive and as a secondary thing I think this was done on the fly and not planned out and executed as a long term project. This was done to put new re-emphasis on eliminating the 2nd amendment once Fast and Furious was put on the hot seat in Congress.
The United Nations ATT treaty was supposed to be the final nail in the coffin of the 2nd amendment and to be done so with a minimum amount of publicity.

I for one am SICK and TIRED of being labeled a “hater” or an “extremist” for having the moral and political perspective of the VAST majority of historically traditional Americans.
The Left may be gaining SOME new adherents among the young and dumb, the QueerMedia gullible and the ObamaParasites, but the NORMAL (conservative) mindset is what has dominated in this country throughout its magnificent, off-the charts, successful history.
Been doing this 30 years. :)
