A Colorado teenager who survived the mass shooting at a midnight screening of "The Dark Knight Rises" in Aurora this morning helped keep a young mother, her young child and her 4-month-old infant safe even though he was injured himself.
Jarell Brooks, 19, has been released from Denver General Hospital and is now recovering at home after he suffered a gunshot wound to the leg after James Holmes, once a Ph.D. candidate at the University of Colorado, allegedly set off smoke bombs and opened fire on the unsuspecting audience, killing 12 people and injuring at least 50 in the attack.

While trying to get out of the theater, he saw a woman, later identified as Patricia Legarreta, struggling to get herself and her two children out. He said he crawled on top of Legarreta in an attempt to push her and the kids out the door but then couldn't get out himself.

That's when Brooks said he felt a shot to his leg. Brooks said he was shot in the thigh, and fell to the ground.
Patricia Legarreta was also hit.

Here's the hero:
Why was she there with her kids?
The kids should be at home and in bed.
She is irresponsible.
Let’s be fair now. Zero would say ‘If I had a son he would look like him’. Flame away if you must.
Reminds me of the this Seinfeld episode:

This woman’s husband wasn’t running away. He was leading the way - showing everyone the way out. Yeah, that’s the ticket.
What kind of morons take their infants to midnight showings of loud, violent movies? Having a baby enriches your life but limits your immediate options. Adjust to it. Find a babysitter or stay home and watch TV. Delay gratification until you can get the movie on Netficks, There is Darwinian element to this that no one is discussing.
God bless him.
Saw the mother and father of these two unfortunate children on TV this AM. He has asked her to marry him after their harrowing experience. And of course, she said “yes” to this selfish loser who abandoned her and their children to save himself.
The teenager is a hero.
I agree. God bless Jarrel Brooks. He is a hero.
What a good man.
um, the title is being presumptuous. The fiance was probably lost in the crowd and couldn’t find her
Hero bump!
Do ya think Obamy will say this good young man ‘could be his son???’
It sure doesn’t take them long to come out here. Good for the kid that helped others any how.
And he DROVE AWAY from the scene ASAP because he “couldn’t find her” even then—til she called on a stranger’s cellphone so she could get a ride to the hospital? Sorry, but some people are “victims” and some are just losers. A victim saved this family—and got shot for his trouble—while the loser Babydaddy got plenty of positive PR for his very, very belated marriage proposal.

There is hope for that generation after all. Good job!
Sounds like the young lady would be better off dumping Rohrs and seeing Mr. Brooks, who displays far more character and more guts.
Here is the hero’s facebook.

Looks like he is working several jobs and going to school at the same time. Someone’s mamma raised him right.
Following back on his family account, it looks like his dad is a minister.
Some people just shouldn’t be parents. Once you have a child, your wishes and desires should not be the priority - your child should.
