**Exclusive**
Late Thursday evening, Mitt Romney's presidential campaign launched a new fundraising drive, 'Meet The VP' -- just as Romney himself has narrowed the field of candidates to a handful, sources reveal.
And a surprise name is now near the top of the list: Former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice!
The timing of the announcement is now set for 'coming weeks'.

It was Condi who received two standing ovations at Romney's Utah retreat a few weeks ago, and everyone left with her name on their lips.
Rice made an extended argument for American leadership in the world.

Condi Rice..........
That works.
OMG!! a BUSHIE pick???? DOUBT IT!!
While I don’t think her political views match mine, it would make the VP debate quite a hoot.
Wow she could still run for VP and vote for Obama like she did last time
Noooooooooo! We need West!
Romney is NOT listening. We do not need TWO RINOs at the top of the ticket. Condi was a good secretary of state...save that, or a different job, for her. This is SO exasperating!
Big-bleeping-mistake.
Drudge is just guessing.
A trial balloon at best and obviously a bit hyped by Drudge. A governor is more likely.
Wow, double your Pander double your fun! Triple if you count academia.
Pray for America
NO bushie rice...rice voted communist in 2008!!!!!!!
She’s automatically the smartest of the 4. Its a trap for the left, really. They’ll call her an Uncle Tom token black, exposing them for the true hypocrites they are.
A pro-abort VP candidate? If true, the Republican Party has sunk to new lows.
“vote for Obama like she did last time”
I find that very hard to believe.
I hope you’re not spreading lies.
I respect Rice, but she probably does not share my conservative values.
I resent politicians who use “race”
in an attempt to —what? Look less white?
Pander?
Leave skin color out of it and run on values.
First this—first that-—isn’t always what is best for America.
That is my initial response...subject to change.
It puts the Iraq War right back on the plate for the Rats, Mitt, don’t go there.
I like Condi but I think Romney would be better off with a Hispanic VP if he wants to win the presidency.
Are you freakin kiddin me??????? If he picks her willard is done for.......
Two RINO’s for the price of one...
Maybe the media will think Romney's choice is cool. But, aside from that, Rice does nothing for the ticket.
It’s really simple. He’s not going to pretend to be something that he’s not by throwing us a VP bone.
He’s a governor; he needs someone with national security experience. That’s why Gov Bush picked Cheney and McCain picked Gov Palin.
Condi is pro choice. That is a big problem, especially for Romney.
I guess anything is possible, but only a few weeks ago Condi gave one of the most definite “not interesteds” of any VP possibility in recent memory. Maybe she’s having second thoughts, or maybe some reporters are creating a story.
But she’s a possibility whose stances on many issues we probably don’t know.
I can live with that.
I will not listen to the media about this until Mittens announces it himself. It’s thus kind of media speculation that makes or breaks an election.
Florida 2000 anyone?
But FWIW ... if he wants to lose this November, Condi’s a good choice.
Oh great, two RINOS.
Net negative for the ticket. She’d bring zero black or other minority votes, fail to inspire conservatives, and remind everybody else of W. What are they thinking?
I am surprised Condi would consider being on Romney's ticket but if she agrees to it, it would definitely make a lot of Democrat heads explode because the race card and the "war on women" factors will be taken away from them.
Plus, Condi debating Biden - I think about 100 IQ points separate them.
yes it is true...rice the obama lover is the top choice of rino romney! Unbelievable! The bushies get their broad into the white house. Give me a freakin break! romney just left the naalcp convention and sucked up to some of them by naming rice. Rice the commie lover also got an ovation in utah among the bush clowns. This sucks big time.
Why hispanic???? 99% of the hispanic’s are illegal!!!! and can’t vote
Thanks kristinn. John Bolton?
“I guess anything is possible, but only a few weeks ago Condi gave one of the most definite not interesteds of any VP possibility in recent memory.”
That’s what they all say until they are actually picked.
Drudge doesn’t no nuth’n.
Or he’s being used to spread disinformation.
As a student of a Catholic high school, the Sisters of Loretta taught me, I am pleased to be at an institution of higher education with such strong and celebrated Catholic and Jesuit traditions . . . You see, I got my Master's Degree at Notre Dame. (Boos.) I acquired a passion for the fighting Irish . . . and my family has been college educated and Presbyterian ever since. (Laughter and applause.) . . . I wandered into a course on international politics taught by a Czech refugee who specialized in Soviet studies, a man who had a daughter by the name of Madeleine Albright. With that one class, I was hooked. I discovered that my passion was Russia and all things Russian.
not only is rice a commie obama voter same as colon powell, but she is a wuss with no fire in the belly. She will suck big time.
yup... there’s no way - she said no and I believe her. This is a diversion.
They also need a dynamic politician - Condi isn’t one... Romney is barely one... someone like Chris Christie

Trouble is time will march on after this election and the next.
Whomever Romney picks stands a pretty good chance of being the next republican in line for the following 8 years.
Thats 16 years before we can look forward to a conservative nominee, in the best case.
She has constantly -— and recently -— said that she is not the least bit interested. So I wonder what’s up.

Colonel Mohammar Quadaffi would approve!
well, well, perfect match. I used to admire her intelligence, but she’s colored blind.
Christie will ensure Obama's election. The GOP needs a solid, pro-life social conservative as its veep candidate. Otherwise, much of the base stays home.
Oh, yeah, a pro-abortion vp is going to solidify the base.
*Rolling eyes*
