I split with the Republican Party in 2007 after Duncan Hunter bowed out... If I was interested in smiley people lying their asses off to win a popularity contest, I would just watch the Miss America Pageant. At least the contestants are easy on the eyes...

I grieve the death of the GOP, but it is just like the Whig party of years past, which had very similar social conservative issues that it swept under the rug. No one grieves for the Whig party today. No one will remember the Republican party a hundred years from now, either. Social conservatives formed the core of both parties, and both times were betrayed.

I have a hunch there are a lot more than 180 FReepers (the list gets longer each day ... it’s approaching 200 for-sures and is already more than 200 including pretty-sures) who consider Romney a bridge too far and will refuse to vote for him.
I know for CERTAIN sure that there are a lot of regular Joe Americans, Republicans and Independents, who will refuse to vote for Romney.

Absolutely incorrect. Elections are always, ALWAYS about the independents & voter registration/GOTV efforts. Go look at the internals and stop with this blaming social conservatives nonsense. McCain refused to attack Obama and show the American people who he really was.
And if the TEA parties work to elect this candidate, it is their doom - Because they will be striving to elect the very thing they were brought into existence to fight against.
What a bunch of malarkey. The TEA party is about stopping the mad Marxists in the White House and Congress, the runaway spending, weakening of our national defense, and outright war on the middle class they've waged for decades. We had ENOUGH! Fiscal conservatism is the top movement in the country and a vocal minority of this site is squandering the opportunity to be a hub for that movement. THAT is where you get the independents because THAT is the number one election issue.
Counting on congressional RINOs to be pressured by the Republican majority is foolhardy. It was RINOs in conjunction with a MARXIST IN THE WHITE HOUSE that got us Obamacare and TARP and Porkulus and auto bailouts and now we are with a bloated, stinking shell of our former selves.
That is why Palin, Gingrich, Nancy Reagan, and countless Conservative voices said "anyone is better than Obama" -- you have to take the pen away from him. You need to strip him of power and throw him out. You aren't going to impeach him when it is easier to vote him out of office. And if the GOP screws this up or a Perot/Nader situation arises, there is no guarantee that EVEN IF IMPEACHED as we presently keep looking for something or anything for a solid case to do it on, Obama will leave office. The only guarantee we have is if we VOTE THE MARXIST OUT BY A HUGE MARGIN.
So that is Part One of our two part mandate. Part Two is Congress. And since some of these RINOs weren't primaried (another failure of cohesion and lack of focus), even if the ABR wing is successful and Obama squeaks out a victory, some of them are a huge factor in crucial votes -- and we aren't going to win a super majority of conservatives because the candidates simply aren't there, as I am sure all of you realize by now.
Where are the meet ups, support, and fundraising threads for Feinstein's opponent in California? Where were the scoops on Berkley (the House & MSM beat us to that) so we can protect Heller's (ohnoesmormon) appointed seat and turn it into a duly elected one? WHERE ARE THE FREEPS AND THE FREEPERS?

No it cannot. This site doesn't have nearly the traffic or importance it used to. It would garner maybe the typical third party vote draw -- 200,000 ish if lucky to even get on one or two state ballots or write in. This is not a big tent site. Instead of creating an open forum united under a common ground fiscal conservative message encouraging debate and discussion, this site is for a very narrow group of individuals. Possibly it will grow in September after everyone's fantasies of UNNAMEDSUPERCONHERO flying in to save the day are finally put to rest and JimRob does what he always does, but by then it might be too late.
Romney took the primaries without FR support. He'll win the White House without FR support. But he can't govern with FR watching his every move, because we'll force him rightwards and hold his and Congress' feet to the fire.

I’m not the one badmouthing FReepers while posting at both here and trewblew.
Many moons ago I came to FreeRepublic from another conservative website, never looked back. No ads, no popups no junk to wade through on FR. Yes, I am a monthly donor and consider the money well spent. I, too, come here to stay informed and often times entertained. Keep up the good work.
