A subset of the Marine Corps band struck up one of Mitt Romney's walkout songs while President Obama was greeting visitors at the White House Independence Day celebration.

A White House pool report said the band struck up Rodney Atkins's "It's America," and described it as an "awkward moment."

I wonder if anyone else was as disappointed as I was in the Boston Pops celebration of the fourth?

I can remember many years ago watching Arthur Fiedler sweating like a pig leading one patriotic song after another. Most of them were Sousa marches.

They did play “Star and stripes forever” and finished with “Glory Halleluiah” but the rest was just boring and I think some of it taped.

That was no coincidence. Nice work, Marines.

The best diss was when the band played the Monty Python theme at the first Clinton inauguration.

I believe this will infuriate him to the point of actually doing something to them to make them an example of anyone who would mock His Excellency. I hope he gets so upset about it, he has a seizure.

BTW, the fact there was a “celebration of independence day” at the white hut yesterday has got to rank up there with one of the best kept secrets of recent years. Lastly, I bet he chokes when he says Independance Day. Unless of course he comes up with some edited way of announcing the day... like he always omits saying “by our creator” when talking about the document signed on July 4th.

He would have preferred the Kenyan National Anthem or God Allah Save the President In His case, I'd like "Hell to the Chief".

The enlisted Marines on (chopper) Marine One also "dissed" Clinton ...
... but I don't recall specifically what they did or didn't do.

[ Only reason it was “awkward” was because the last thing this walking, breathing POS wants to hear is the word “America”. ]

especially not when the lyrics of the song refer to America as one nation under God.

I saw it..It was truly awful..I attended one live, in the early 80's.it was spectacular. PBS broadcast them for a while, their usual great job. IIRC, A&E network did it foe many years..used to be a two hour broadcats, with minimal commercials..CBS has had it for a few years..they've totally screwed it up..one hour...20 minutes of commercials, and promos for CBS shows...Chicklis is a jerk, and pleaser tell me what Hudson's songs had to do with the 4th of July?..We don't gett ot see/hear the "1812 Overture",..with the accompanying artillery, anymore..which has always been the signature piece of the concert.

On a much happier note, this year's Capitol 4th broadcatxs was one of the best in several years.

I was. Last night was probably the last time I watch a televised gala. My question was, what the heck does Jennifer what’s her name singing pop songs have to do with Independence Day? That and the fact the Pops played the 1812 overture first (and it was edited) and not during the fireworks. WTF?

I noticed the other televised events featured celebrity losers as well (probably singing their crap as well) so I avoided them thinking the Pops would be the more traditional one.

Bummer.

Interesting version of the Soviet anthem—with photos of Trotsky and other victims of Stalin (along with Stalin, Lenin, and others who were not purged).

I kept thinking to my self that she couldn’t really be as bad as she sounded because she had won all kind of awards.

She really did just seem to be mailing it in, bland and boring and for a long time too.

That and the fact the Pops played the 1812 overture first (and it was edited) and not during the fireworks.

Right before they were going to start the 1812 overture, a thunderstorm moved in over the city. They evacuated everyone to the nearest tunnel.

BTW, I agree. The quality of the show has gone down over the years. I know it's the Pops, but the song selection could be better.
