The SCOTUS Just Woke Up a Sleeping Giant (Vanity)
June 28, 2012 | pistolpackinpapa

Posted on 06/28/2012 7:54:12 AM PDT by pistolpackinpapa

One Republican Congressman, whom I believe they said was from Arizona, just said the same thing I said after this Ruling:

"Today, the Supreme Court awakened a sleeping giant. This changes the Election drastically." This has so angered people and will cause many to realize, this is no small matter. This is no game. We MUST Elect Mitt Romney, and a GOP House and Senate on November 6, 2012 so this ObamaCare Mess, our new Tax the Supremes gave us today, can be repealed and totally dismantled.

I believe this "victory" for the Obama Thug Brigade in the White House, will be short-lived. This will fire up people who were somewhat lackadaisical about this Election. We have to get the Marxist out of the White House.

It ain't over Mr. President. WE'RE JUST GETTING WARMED UP!!!

"Odd - not there in Louisiana."

I'm in NY State, and we usually get the emergency weather tests and other emergency test a few times a week...usually in the mornings. We had two yesterday morning, and no matter whether I'm watching a recorded program, or live TV, the tests come through. I always mute them as I can't stand the buzzing noise they make. Today I noticed this one listing all those States. I have never seen it that way before. It was shown as IPAWS EAS which stands for FEMA: Integrated Public Alert and Warning System (IPAWS) and FEMA's EAS (Emergency Alert System). The tests I usually see are regional only. The test went on for a good number of minutes. This may or may not have been connected to the required federal test of FEMA's emergency system, but it seemed strange that it came not long after the announcement of the SCOTUS decision.

The present American government fundamentally died this morning. We are not revolutionaries, We are not treasonous. Our efforts are to restore our gov’t the way our founding fathers envisioned it! The true revolutionaries and radicals and tyrants are the Washington politicians who have raped our Constitution and imposed their tyranny as law!

Yes! (Too much crying in our beer here)

Roberts is not stupid. They are not going to declare something unconstitutional, just because they (or we!) don’t like it. If you are a constitutional “originalist”, as I suspect many at FR are, then you have to decide whether the decision went with or against the Constitution (or else, we can all support the “living constitution” beloved of the left).I think a lot revolved around whether it would be a tax or some edict from HHS. They seem to be saying it is and has to be a tax. If the majority of citizens, through their reps, voted to impose this as a tax, what would be the counter argument?

Where do revenue measures originate? In the House. Most polls already say Obamacare is not popular. Those are voters.

This gives a greater incentive to work for (and contribute however small amounts I can) to conservative candidates, particularly in Congress.

The House is already Republican. I doubt Obama could get such a tax moved through the House.

House, Senate, President. Of these, I think the first two will be the most important. This can be repealed or significantly changed through Congress.

I certainly hope Obama loses (and I hope some of the Romney detractors here understand staying home and weeping is a useless gesture).

House and Senate are the key (why a lot of the Tea Party folks have been concentrating on lower levels of government, I think... it is an effective counterstroke to the vaunted “march through the institutions” of the left).

Even if Obama wins, he won’t be able to do much if he has a significant opposition in Congress. There is one important exception to this of course... appointees to the Supreme Court, but even there , getting them approved would be much harder. I believe in the end you support nominees who interpret the Constitution as the founders intended, whether you may like their decision or not.

I am reserving judgement on Roberts, waiting to see how this plays out.5-4 decisions are tough on one’s psyche, no matter which way it goes (the Roberts/Kennedy flip is interesting), but yes, I think Roberts is a pretty good chess player.

I think that this will turn out to be much less to the advantage of Obama’s re-election prospects than might appear at first sight.

The Tea Party protests was the first time I ever saw any of them “fear” us.

I hope gold and silver crash hard, so I can buy some

yep, me too. This ruling certainly accelerated the timetable for the crash. If 0bama somehow pulls the election out of his ass it will accelerate further.

As of now, perhaps fall of 2015 before the "SHiFT".

If 0bama is elected, maybe sooner, as people's tolerance for tyranny runs out.

“Climb Mt. Niitaka” was the coded order to attack Pearl Harbor. “I fear all we have done is to awaken a sleeping giant and fill him with a terrible resolve.” was a quote attributed to Adm. Yamamoto at the end of the movie “TORA! TORA! TORA!” Some historians claim he never said it.

It may also do us a favor in the long run as the first limitation of the commerce clause by SCOTUS. That said I think roberts name is forever linked with that of Benedict Arnold

Right on!

They do no fear us because they know they can keep advancing the ball down the field and we will not stop them but just slow them down. Many Republicans celebrate when they go only 3 yards down the field instead of 5 yards. I guess they haven't figured out that they've still advanced the ball. Yet Republicans act like they've won the game when it happens. We need to change our mindset.

It's time to create a turnover and start playing offense for a change instead of constantly playing defense!

I pray that all the FReepers who hate Romney, will realize that they hate the anti-Capitalist, Socialist mind-set that has taken over this nation, ...

And you propose to solve that problem by electing a [monied] socialist? Ha!

We're left with Romney's promise to strike this down if elected.

IIRC, he wanted to keep the parts thet ere 'good'... IOW, he will only make a token cut, if even that.

American flag is officially coming off my house.

I'm going to change my 50-star flag to the Betsy Ross version, the one with 13 stars. That's my flag from now on, the one that George Washington flew.

I would suggest that patriots do the same.

"No matter what happens to the Obamacare law, no matter what happens to Obama, the fact is, the Supreme Court of the United States of America said it was constitutional for force a person to purchase a product or service."

Yes.

Same deal with Romney “The Father of Gay Marriage in Massachusets”. He ain’t going to interfere with homo marriage or fag culture in the military. That’s his groove. Makes polygamy easier.

I hope so. Will you Anybody-but-Romney folks still sit out the election or throw your vote away?

I will be voting for either Goode (Constitution Party) or writing in Paul. I will not vote for Romney; he's still a socialist.
I refuse to let "but the other guy's worse" continue to be a valid argument/persuasion regarding my vote.

In my 65 years of life I have been in shock three times.

1. When Obama got elected.

2. When Obamacare passed, even though our Senator promised to vote against it, then reneged, so we threw her out of office.

3. When the SCOTUS upheld that travesty.

will now swallow my vomit and donate to Romney’s campaign
I'm sorry to laugh in the face of your pain (my pain too, exactly!) but I'm sorry, when I read your words "swallow my vomit" it made me laugh!

The one bright spot in this dismal, dismal morning.

(What a strange political world we are now in when such a disturbing image can strike me as amusing. Again, sorry.)
