This is the Waldo Canyon fire. Winds grew to 65mph this afternoon and the fire went over the fire-breaks.

The Air Force Academy and surrounding neighborhood have been evacuated.

Interstare I-25 has been closed north of Colorado SPrings in order to allow local people use the highway to evacuate.

Unlike some here where if this were CA, would wish for the worst...I wish everyone in CO the best of luck, and hope they all get through this alright.

I've seen wild fires where it appears to be the end of the world for those in the path..

My thoughts and hopes go to those in the CO fire danger areas.

“BTW, where is Obama on this disaster?”

Yep, Barry was in Boston at a black-tie campaign fundraiser banquet. He made some funny remarks about the Red Sox, seemingly without a care in the world. No mention of epic fires. There should have been more air tankers put into place four days ago, but Barry has better things to worry about. Totally asleep at the wheel...

I live in Sedona, and we have been having dry lightening all afternoon and evening. I am very leary - as I have many trees - and everything is SO dry!

I hope you can post the picture from Colorado Springs.

To post a photo here, the photo needs to be made available on the internet, i.e. it is first uploaded from your computer to a photo hosting site. The following site has been very easy to use.

You may want to register first at the site to create your own folder there in which to save your photos for free, but you don’t have to. You can just follow the instructions below this link. To post the photo here after uploading it, copy the code in the “HTML for Websites” box and paste that code into a reply on this thread.

http://tinypic.com/

Click “Choose File” (then choose the photo file in a folder on your computer), choose to “Resize” if necessary, click “Upload Now”.

You can first click on “View Full Size Image” under your picture to see how the image will appear (this helps to prevent posting huge images into the FR thread).

Copy the code in the “HTML for Websites” box, and paste that code into a reply on this thread.

Thank you! That is so kind. I am still in Physical Therapy (it’s been almost six months since the accident), and in grief/loss therapy. It’s been a looooooooooong ride, and quite a journey!

FReepmail me when you plan to come to God’s beautiful country. I would be honored to join you for lunch.

Good advice but a simpler route if the picture is already on the web is to right click the picture and then click properties. Copy the full web address listed and paste that he in the reply box then hit preview. If it shows it goes and hit post.

No HTML needed. Easy peasey. (if it isn’t oversized).

I just had a telephone conversation with a Denver friend tonight while I was doing the laundry. She kept coughing, which is not like her. She explained that her cough was due to the fires. Good thing I am not planning my usual Colorado hiking vacation this year, as I would have a hard time with the particulates in the air from the smoke. As far as I know, Denver is nowhere really close to any of the fires and she’s still coughing.

I recommended she get an indoor air purifier, as she’s not a spring chicken any more. Does anyone have a brand they could particularly recommend?

Your friend is probably breathing some smoke from the Boulder fire. The winds are coming from the north.

we will pray....coming home tonight, after another very rainy day here in eastern Washington, the temp was 48 degrees, so I can’t imagine the dry, hot conditions down there...

Cottonwood?
We are supposed to be in Sedona in three days.
My daughter’s man friend and kids live in the area of the Air Force Academy, they just evacuated. He texted me, as they drove away it appears the house is burning, his sister had just evacuated to his house her house was gone.
In California we are used to this, however it does not in anyway take away what Colorado and now Arizona are going through.

"I live in Sedona, and we have been having dry lightening all afternoon and evening. I am very leary - as I have many trees - and everything is SO dry!"

While I don't mean to minimize the wild fires in Colorado, if Sedona were to go up in flames, it would be a national loss. It would be the same as if the peaks in Monument Valley (Utah) fell, or if Half Dome fell into the Yosemite valley. Sedona is the only place like it on the planet, IMHO. Without its greenery to contrast its red rock, it would not be the same.

Best to you in Sedona, and best to all in Colorado. What a beautiful State CO is.

DH and son just met up with 86 yo father in law who finally agreed to leave. He is not in mandatory zone but surrounded by it on 3 sides by less than a block. They said traffic not too bad but nw Colorado springs eerily deserted. Can’t see much flame right now as smoke close to the ground. Thank God that grandpa agreed to spend some time with us in Denver and we were able to get him out of his neighborhood reasonably easily. Scary situation. Watching the live feed I was thinking this must be what London an d other cities looked like in the firestorms of WW2. The people near these fires need our prayers big time. I will be surprised if there is no loss of life

I've been tracking the fires tonight and they are incredible:

Here are some links for Freepers to examine:

Colorado Wild Fires

Waldo Canyon Fire

This is amazing. The Temp has dropped 30+ degrees in the last 90 minutes. The weather forecast has changed while I was watching with rain now predicted throughout the I-25 Corridor tomorrow! Praise God!

It's just passed midnight and the fires are still burning out of control. It looks like a war zone.

The weather/wind forecast for tomorrow is not promising.
