Axelrod: Obama win will 'liberate' Republicans to work with president By Ian Swanson - 06/24/12 08:13 AM ET

Republicans of “good will” who want to work with President Obama will be “liberated” by his reelection in November, says Obama chief political strategist David Axelrod.

In an interview with C-SPAN, Axelrod said there are plenty of Republicans who would like to work with Obama but have been unable to because of a “kind of reign of terror” in which any act of cooperation with the president was seen as a betrayal.

Yet Axelrod insisted there are Republicans “of good will” would would like to work with Obama.

“My belief is that when the president wins in November, we’re going to liberate these Republicans of good will,” Axelrod said.

He added that those Republicans will “blink into the light of a new day and they’re going to turn to the Grover Norquists of the world, frankly as Jeb Bush has recently, and say, ‘You know we did it your way, and frankly that was a failure for the country, and also for the Republican Party, and now we’re going to work together.’”

Norquist heads Americans for Tax Reform, which the White House and Democrats have blamed for GOP resistance to raising any taxes. The group circulates a tax pledge in which lawmakers promise not to raise taxes while in Washington.

Bush, the former governor of Florida, recently said Ronald Reagan would have had a hard time with today’s Republican party since he was willing to raise taxes in seeking cooperation from a Democratic Congress.

Norquist criticized Bush for those remarks, saying Bush’s own father lost reelection by going back on a pledge to nor raise taxes. Norquist also said Reagan had little choice since he faced a Democratic Congress and led a Republican Party that had yet to wholly embrace his small government views.

Axelrod insisted that Republicans in Washington want to work with the president but have been “throttled” because the strategy of the GOP “doesn’t permit it.”

This sounds exactly like the victory statement of the Muslim Brotherhood president of Egypt....only he couldn’t help but mention that Jerusalem should be their capital city.

If it's like the first term, they'll be locked outside while Nancy, Harry, Barack and their special interest write unconstitutional legislation.

Well, I think that we are about to “liberate” a whole bunch of Democrats from the loony left come November, along with liberating axelrod from his present job so that he can do what he is best qualified to do - like working the fry line at McDonalds..

What this statement really means is this, “Republican socialists will help the democrat socialists whenever the can”

Liberate to work with the president?! What sort of drivel is that? We should NOT be working with this president unless he is doing what WE want.

I find it extremely gratifying that Obama’s political guru has now had to resort to a completely delusional narrative in order to give hope to the minions.

“Good Republicans” would become compliant and begin to work with Obama in a second term? Really? Has Axelrod completely missed what we do to “good” Republicans?

Once again we are reminded of the Black Knight fight scene in Monty Python and the Holy Grail.

Jeb Bush follows a long traditon of Bush’s and betrays the conservative movement.

Axelrod is throwing stuff, any stuff he can pick up and throw at the wall to see if it will stick. Anything.

I believe I smell desperation in the air.

Doh! What's the big deal here?

After all, are there not already (at least) 10 Super RINO's in the Senate who regularly, cross the aisle in the spirit of "Bi-Partisanship?"

BTW those turncoat, Rat-Bas-Turds, are the same ones who the feckless, delusional, HATE-ROMNEY and MORMONS Freeps keep trying to reassure us that we have nothing to worry about by staying home in Nov, cuz the Republi-Tards in Congress will keep Dear Leader "in check!"

Sure they will.....!!!

Axelrod was out late last night with Obama.

They celebrated Mission Accomplished in Egypt.

I’m expecting the Democrats to liberate Obama and family from the White House. Don’t the Democrats have an Alexander Haig?

Why the hell would they do that?

They have nothing in common with the moslem/communist/packer.

If Axelrod was able to say that with a straight face, I'd hate to play poker with him.

What has distinguished Obama from earlier Democrat Presidents like Clinton is his complete lack of interest in working with the opposition party. Apparently he rarely even talks to the Republican leadership, and the only meetings are photo-ops where he tries to make them look bad.

Obama's tactic is always to set it up so that the Republicans can't cooperate with him, after which he launches a political attack on them for their obstructionism. He thinks it works for him. At any rate there is no reason to think he would change if re-elected.

The way to liberate the Republicans in Congress is to elect a new President.

That’s just the Axe’s point.

With all the RINO’s in the Senate, AXE may have a point.
