(RTTNews) - New claims for unemployment insurance in the U.S. unexpectedly saw a modest increase in the week ended June 9th, according to figures released Thursday by the Labor Department.
The Labor Department estimated initial jobless claims at a seasonally adjusted level of 386,000, an increase of 6,000 from the previous week's revised level of 380,000.
The increase surprised economists, who had expected jobless claims to edge down to 375,000 from the 377,000 originally reported for the previous week.
Lindsey Piegza, an economist at FTN Financial, said, "While noticeably down from this time last year, claims remain elevated after the downward trend arrested back in February."
"The recent and growing weakness in the labor force continues to undermine confidence in the sustainability of the U.S. recovery," she added. "The downward trend in claims has yet to be reinstated suggesting further weakness in payrolls is likely."

Add to this high school grads, college grads, temps and others working less than six months before being discharged, none of whom qualify for unemployment benefits, and that number would soar if they were eligible. Personally, I'd like to add Obama, his cabinet and czars to that statistic and that would be good news.

If
anything bad ever happens during this administration that's not a result that's completely predictable by anyone who has two live brain cells that are connected to each other, and it isn't described by the alphabet media as "unexpectedly", I think I'll probably fall over in awe.

How many times can the experts use the term unexpectedly before their expert status is called into question?
They just use a boilerplated form, plug in the latest numbers, and sent it out. Takes about 2 minutes to fill in the blanks. The wording is already there, because it is essentially the same as last week, and the week before, and the week before that, and so on.

——The backroom Dem strategy meetings are probably already trying to figure out how to dump The One and replace him with a viable candidate——
Impossible. There would be blood in the streets.
Too bad for the commies, though. A real shame.

Please, no, my liver can't take it any more. Me too! Taking a shot every time they use "unexpected" is creating havoc with my liver and brain cells!

Let's give the
"unexpected" President his expected defeat.
I'm surprised the MSM is not hip to this word and uses it repeatedly, without question.
Perhaps we should not be surprised. Apparently they are so condescending that they foist "unexpected" on the masses one more time.

Not to worry as Lou Dobbs said 63 out last 64 labor numbers have been revised upward.

I lost track - is this unexpected “modest increase” based on last week's original unexpected increase or was it based on last week's unexpected revised modest unexpected increase?
I guess -
“...an increase of 6,000 from the previous week's revised level of 380,000...”
Sounds better than -
“...an increase of 9,000 from the previous week's estimated level of 377,000...”
Even though the latter would be a better ‘apples to apples’ comparison...:^)

But, by this time next week it will be 9,000 as the initial will unexpectedly rise again from the revised final for this week.
If the general public just saw a line-graph of this they’d run fom Obamugabe like from a wasps’ nest!

Why all the guessing? Why do we need to try and guess what the numbers are going to be? Why do we have to “revise” the numbers? Why can’t we just WAIT until the actual, real numbers come out?

Obama was very excited to hear what today was. Until someone finally quietly corrected him and said, “it’s flag day, sir.”
