Newsweek Cover: 'The First Gay President' (rainbow halo and all)
Politico ^ | 5/13/12

Posted on 05/13/2012 8:52:19 AM PDT by markomalley

"‘Let the games begin," Tina Brown said last week after Time Magazine released its controversial breastfeeding cover.

Brown, whose tenure as editor at Newsweek has seen an array of controversial covers, will respond with the above, pegged to Andrew Sullivan's piece on Obama's support for same-sex marriage: "The First Gay President."

The magazine is currently available on iTunes.

“I thought Obama was the 2nd gay president after James Buchanan actually, but the point remains the same.”

I thought Abe Lincoln was our first gay President?

If Buchanan and Lincoln were both gay, Buchanan was president right before Lincoln.

All I can think of with Obama's background is my favorite scene from the movie Slap Shot when the owner of the Chiefs tells Reggie that she doesn't let her son watch hockey and that she's folding the team.

"You know your son looks like a fag to me?" "You better get married again cause he's going to wind up with somebody's blank in his mouth before you can say Jack Robinson!"

"How dare you! How dare you!"

In Obama's case.....you can say Jack Robinson, or least Larry Sinclair.

Well he got a “first” in something, I mean besides being the worst President ever. Some people have been saying he is the first “black” President, but almost everyone knows that Bill(Bubba) Clinton was the first black POTUS.

1. Since the President himself is not gay, “Pro-Gay President” would be more exact..n/t

I know..I’m dreaming...a well-meaning fourth grade student was allowed to write the copy for the cover of an internationally distributed magazine...or...DC Comics has a new Bizarro World mag disguised for April Fools...

Jesus...no, i’m awake. Did someone tell Michelle about this, or like Rudy Giuliani’s wife, who apparrently didn’t know she was getting a divorce, did she have to hear this stuff from the media?

5. IMO, this appears to be a riff on Bill Clinton being “The First Black President”

I’m not entirely sure most people will “get it”.

10. Yeah, I kind of agree. Beltway folks and politicos will get it almost certainly...

View profile
...but it’s going to cause the same sort of “Whaaa?” reaction from people that that goddamned awful New Yorker cover did, with Obama and his wife dressed up like terrorists, fist-bumping in the Oval Office did.

He probably illegally modified the computer to do that. The Feds will on his doorstep very soon.

First, that halo needs a pair of hands grasping it and setting it on his head. If you know what I mean and I think you do.

Second, if Andrew is going to call Barry the first gay president, is he now going to say Sasha and Malia aren’t really Barry’s daughters? Or is that particular accusation a one-candidate deal?

LOL!!! I think this cover is a huge blunder on Newsweek’s part. This cover is open to misinterpretation . . . hee.

The magazine won’t come out until May, 21. They still have time to pull the cover, if it hurts their hero’s poll numbers.

If they pull this cover now; the queers will squeal like stuck pigs; accusing Newsweek of caving to intolerant, right-wing extremists.

Get the popcorn...

I didn’t know “Newsweek” was still published.

Not for long. Together with Time they can just muster enough pages to hold the covers apart.
