WASHINGTON (AP) Rick Santorum is endorsing his one-time bitter rival Mitt Romney in a late-night e-mail to his supporters.
Santorum on Monday urged his supporters to join him in working with the effective Republican nominee to deny President Barack Obama a second term.

This is another proof that Santorum might not have been a good candidate, and why none of the GOP field that ran were worthy of the GOP nod, and I mean NONE!
8 years vs 4. Congreswsional GOP resistance vs none. Romney will accomplish more for the left than Obama.
Calling Santorum an “idiot” is too mild.
Santorum is a backstabber of true conservatives.
THAT makes him a natural for Team Romney-
the League of Poser Backstabbers.
As for the presidency, Im asked sometimes, is Mitt Romney conservative enough? said Gingrich at a press conference in Arlington, Va., today. And my answer is simple: compared to Barack Obama? You know this is not a choice between Mitt Romney and Ronald Reagan. This is a choice between Mitt Romney and the most radical, leftist president in American history.
If you simply take judges and ask yourself, who are the kind of people Gov. Romney would be inclined to appoint and who are the kind of people we know Barack Obama appoints? The gap is as wide as in any point in American history, said Gingrich. I would argue its wider than between Reagan and Carter.
If you look at Romneys pledge to cut spending, something which were going to cheerfully help him with, I hate Mitt Romney...but I can not express in polite company my loathing for zer0bama, the Islamacist/Marxist who somehow became President, dispite his lack of legal qualifications...
Confine him to a Santorum!
Like it or not, this is the pack of cards we have been dealt with.
Well if the Senate gets more conservatives, then at least, with the House, they can put MItt’s feet to the fire.
I got the message and read it last night. I was **VERY** surprised to hear FOX News this morning interpreting this as an “endorsement” of Romney. Engraved-on-His-hands has already posted the text of the email at #89, or I would do it.
I think we all know an endorsement of Romney by Santorum is coming, but I don't read what Santorum sent out last night as an endorsement.
Note these sections of the Santorum email: “While the issue of my endorsement did not come up, I certainly have heard from many of you who have weighed in on whether or not I should issue a formal endorsement. Thank you for your counsel, it has been most helpful. However, I felt that it was completely impossible for me to even consider an endorsement until after a meeting to discuss issues critical to those of us who often feel our voices are not heard by the establishment: social conservatives, tea-party supporters, lower and middle income working families.”
And again: “During our meeting I felt a deep responsibility to assess Governor Romneys commitment to addressing the issues most important to conservatives, as well his commitment to ensuring our appropriate representation in a Romney administration.”
In closing: “P.S. As promised, very soon we will be making another big announcement, and I will be asking you to once again join forces with me to keep up the fight, together. Stay tuned.”
My guess is an endorsement is coming, but this email wasn't it.
There ya go, the circular firing squad.
Make sure you call every conservative a name if he or she isn’t “your” conservative.
Yep. way to go.
Romney is not a ‘conservative’.
Romney is a lying liberal.
Got that?
Romney is a lying backstabber.
Conservatives do neither of the above.
Stopping Willard at the GOP convention is of paramount importance.

And who shall you anoint in his place? One of the also rans? Or a refused to run?
Another reason to be done with the rino party. Even the “principled” conservatives aren’t principled.
ABOR
Good! We need obama out na matter what.
Didnt he already endorse Obama?
Sorry you refuse to see that.
And at this point that's the only thing that matters!
Get on my knees? Pray to Kennedy? Huh? That’s what you mean by on my knees? Pray to a catholic? Huh? I’m not catholic.
This converstion is over.
Did big mean man hurt your feelings?
I would draft Gov. Scott Walker of WI, one of (if not the) best Governors in the nation. He would instantly unite the party and electrify the grassroots.
“If he thinks thisll get him the VP nod, hes delusional.”
It’s not about that. This is just traditional politics at work. It’s this way every primary.
I’m not sure why anyone is surprised...after all Newt endorsed Romney as well and there was much worse blood between those two.
At any rate, every rational person understands the simple truth that 0 must be defeated in November. Romney is not the ideal candidate, but she chose not to run this cycle. ;-)
The top three reasons I am supporting Mitt against 0bama.
1. Scalia
2. Thomas
3. Roberts
Sounds like he’s lining up for a cabinet position.
The former candidateS are stuck with the severe conservative (lib/prog poser) as the nom like everyone else.
Santorum endorsed Romney in 2008 in the primary when Romney was running against Huckabee, Thompson and other conservatives.
How can anybody be surprised that Rick would make the same endorsement four years later in the General election when the opponent is Obama?
Romney Rewards one of the State's Leading Anti-Marriage Attorneys by Making him a Judge
Romney told the U.S. Senate on June 22, 2004, that the "real threat to the States is not the
constitutional amendment process, in which the states participate,
but activist judges who disregard the law and redefine marriage . . ."
Romney sounds tough but yet he had no qualms advancing the legal career of one
of the leading anti-marriage attorneys. He nominated Stephen Abany to a District Court.
Abany has been a key player in the Massachusetts Lesbian and Gay Bar Association which,
in its own words, is "dedicated to ensuring that the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court decision
on marriage equality is upheld, and that any anti-gay amendment or legislation is defeated."
- U.S. Senate testimony by Gov. Mitt Romney, 6/22/2004 P>
"Romney announces he won't fill judicial vacancies before term ends
Despite his rhetoric about judicial activism, Romney announced that
he won't fill all the remaining vacancies during his term - but instead
leave them for his liberal Democrat successor!
Governor Mitt Romney pledged yesterday not to make a flurry of lame-duck
judicial appointments in the final days of his administration . . . David Yas,
editor of Lawyers Weekly, said Romney is "bucking tradition" by resisting the urge to
fill all remaining judgeships. "It is a tradition for governors to use that power to appoint judges
aggressively in the waning moments of their administration," Yas said.
He added that Romney has been criticized for failing to make judicial appointments.
"The legal community has consistently criticized him for not filling open seats quickly enough
and being a little too painstaking in the process and being dismissive of the input of the
Judicial Nominating Commission," Yas said.

Shows Rick to be just another slavish devotee of the GOP-e. Glad he dropped out.
...and you bring up a good point. Why was Romney an acceptable alternative to McCain in 2008, but not an acceptable alternative to 0bama in 2012?
>> The top three reasons <<
What do you have against Alito?
It’s the only move left for him to make.
He met with Romney, probably established some conditions for an open endorsement, and the negotiated that and came to terms...whatever they are they will probbaly helop. Thios si the type of thing each of them need to do to ensure that Romney sticks to his commitments.
I think Romney should announce soon who his VP will be (Rubio perhaps) and then, before the conmventiopn, also indicate who he is considering for his cabinet. Like Santorum as AG, Bachman as Health, Education and Welfare, Bolton as Secretary of State, etc.
I just don't get it.
I am assuming that Alito will be on the bench for a while. Both Thomas and Scalia are aging, and there were reports earlier that Roberts had some health issues.
“Why was Romney an acceptable alternative to McCain in 2008, but not an acceptable alternative to 0bama in 2012?”
Bing bing bing- we have a winner!
I knew this was coming. Obama MUST go.
..seems like everyone is now hitching their wagon to the Mitt star— which will prove to be a meteorite in November...
The family and its foundational role in America's economic success, a central point of our campaign, was discussed at length. I was impressed with the Governor's deep understanding of this connection and his commitment to economic policies that preserve and strengthen families. He clearly understands that having pro-family initiatives are not only the morally and economically right thing to do, but that the family is the basic building block of our society and must be preserved.Though I am sad a Sarah Palin, a Cain, a Santorum, or Newt did not take the primaries and win the nomination, I agree 100% with this letter from Rick and will move forward accordingly.
The primary campaign certainly made it clear that Governor Romney and I have some differences. But there are many significant areas in which we agree: the need for lower taxes, smaller government, and a reduction in out-of-control spending. We certainly agree that abortion is wrong and marriage should be between one man and one woman. I am also comfortable with Governor Romney on foreign policy matters, and we share the belief that we can never allow Iran to possess nuclear weapons. And while I had concerns about Governor Romney making a case as a candidate about fighting against Obamacare, I have no doubt if elected he will work with a Republican Congress to repeal it and replace it with a bottom up, patient, not government, driven system.
Above all else, we both agree that President Obama must be defeated. The task will not be easy. It will require all hands on deck if our nominee is to be victorious. Governor Romney will be that nominee and he has my endorsement and support to win this the most critical election of our lifetime.
My conversation with Governor Romney was very productive, but I intend to keep lines of communication open with him and his campaign. I hope to ensure that the values that made America that shining city on the hill are illuminated brightly by our party and our candidates thus ensuring not just a victory, but a mandate for conservative governance.
OH NO!!! Rick endorsed the evil RINO Mormon. Head for cover to avoid debris from exploding heads. :P
After all, a RINO Mormon is much worse than a closet Muslim, Sharia Law loving Marxist.
This isnt a choice between Mitt Romney and Ronald Reagan... its a choice between Romney and the most radical, leftist president in American history.
Newt Gingrich

You quote from the email and then ignore the following paragraph. It to means what it says... 'endorsement'
That to me says 'endorsement' as of the writing and not at some future time. JMO.The Santorum email

It's been rigged for quite a while, ma'am...'open primaries' designed to help DEMOCRATS select the Republican nominee...
Translation: He needs help paying off his campaign debt, and Romney has promised to help him in exchange for his endorsement.
He will rise to higher rank during his life after this presidential business is over, and at some point will become a God himself.
Romney is the ultimate religious figure in American politics."
Correction: Romney is a liberal flip-floppin' progressive phony from a non-Christian Cult that bows to the whims of Joe Smith.
The saddest thing is that we may just have to use a vote for Romney to actually cast a vote against Obama. What a pathetic choice.
Please visit: www.exmormon.org for more information on mormonism.
And your response is spot on. Rick, Newt, Michelle Bachmann, Cain, Sarah, all understand that **key concept here**... "Governor Romney will be that nominee and he has my endorsement and support to win this the most critical election of our lifetime."
This point needs to be pounded home by all the conservatives who ran and dropped out of this primary.
