John Edwards' daughter left the courtroom in tears Wednesday as a former aide testified about an argument Edwards had with his now-deceased wife, Elizabeth, on the day a tabloid published a story on his affair.
Edwards turned to his daughter, Cate, as witness Christina Reynolds was beginning the account of the argument at the Raleigh airport. As Edwards asked if his daughter wanted to leave, Cate walked out of the room wiping her tears. She later returned to court after a recess.

I've been a naughty, naughty Hair-Ball!
Note: Lots of salacious details in the original article which had to be excluded due to AP excerpting requirements.
The only folks more trashy then the Edwards’ are the lying covering up MSM. As we used to say where I grew up, the only thing more despicable then a SOB was a lying SOB!
>The sainted wife was apparently a real piece of work - based on other anecdotal stories.
A special place in hell awaits that soulless bastard.
Hope you’re happy with that trail of anguish you’ve left, John.
You left out “Slimy” ;-)
Yeesh. You're right. Hard to have sympathy for anyone in this power-mad, back-stabbing, arrogant family. Elizabeth became sympathetic as the wife dying of cancer because she was cheated on, but before she took on that role, she was a real nasty piece of work -- a typical power-hungry politician's wife.
I suspect (from anecdotal readings) that Elizabeth would have been better served by exhibiting less bark and more wag. If she knew that Mr. Breck Girl was a real scumbag and didn't like it, she should'a left rather than trying to help him get control of the levers of power.
Cold as it sounds, she's probably right - one does not have to put friends on the payroll to keep them around.
It’s been reported that she wasn’t easy to live with. Even so, she was an asset to her husband’s campaign. Then, to top that off with cancer. The lady, mother, and wife, was dying of cancer, and her husband ignored her in favor of a romp in the hay with Hunter. A real man would put his **** in his pocket, and allow his wife’s last days be in peace, particularly since she put her illness in the background to help him. Whatever temperament she had, she loved the sob, and he sullied her, knowing she was dying. Even if she were healthy, the pain of betrayal is everlasting.
John Edwards is an absolute slimeball, but I do feel sorry for his daughter. She had nothing to do with any of this.
“Friends” has some not so subtle nuances of meaning, especially when spoken in public by a slick politician. Pointing out that they are in fact Staff doesn’t help with team morale and is not a real bright way to do a private negotiation.
>> A special place in hell awaits that soulless bastard.
Yeah; it’s called the “plaintiff’s bar firepit”. Place is HUGE.
“They’re not our friends. They’re our staff.”

_____________
I know a fundraiser for the real estate industry that knew Edward’s senatorial staff. His senate staff said Elizabeth Edwards was down right nuts and extremely mean to the little people.
Not trying to pile on a woman who died of cancer...but that was the story way before he ran for president.
He would have made a better president than Obama.
He would have been more dangerous than Obama, Obama is mostly incompetent.
A pointy stick would have made a better president than Obama.
If I were his daughter and witnessed what he did to my mother and his denial of my half sister, I would have no other choice but to say, “You are on your own, Pop” and then go to pay my respects to my mother’s grave, knowing that his mere breathing hastened her tortured death. I am certainly no fan of Elizabeth Edwards but every daughter needs her mother.
He is the face of the democrat party. ‘Nuff said.
It now seems that both the Edwardses were masters at the art of deception and almost literally led double lives. I do have some sympathy for the daughter as you can’t pick your parents, and the fact that they are scum doesn’t make you not love them.
And this article gave me a better appreciation of Hunter’s “art”...if she made Edwards look “not Presidential”, then she was right on the mark.
The people I really feel sorry for are the children spawned by this no god POS. They’re the ones that will suffer.
Obviously, Johnny boy was using his oldest daughter to gain sympathy.
What I wish the judge would say in this trial:
“Okay, this is completely ridiculous. John, you are a scumbag. You got that? A complete scumbag. But that’s not illegal. Now get out of here and let’s stop wasting the taxpayer money on this stupidity.”
I cannot even begin to imagine the pain, as a daughter, to witness what it would take for my dying mother to tear off her shirt in public, begging for my father’s love and him not giving it.
I hope he gets sodomized in prison daily so badly the medical staff will have a room set aside specifically for him to sew him back up.
Seriously. As a former NC resident, he deserves all he has coming to him.
What is she doing in the courtroom at all? Nothing good can come of it.
>He is the face of the democrat party. Nuff said.<
Post of the day.
>Okay, this is completely ridiculous. John, you are a scumbag. You got that? A complete scumbag. But thats not illegal.< ??
Edwards is not on trial for being a scumbag. He is on trial for converting campaign funds to personal use.
Or that you have to raise your brother and sister, as you promised your dying mother, because their father is an oily lying weasel who is sex-addicted to a skanky nut
I wonder how the people who actually thought he was presidential material are feeling right about now..... both of them.
I think you had it right the first time. There is no God in their lives but self; which, IMHO, leads to a lot of heinous behavior.
She enabled him...
John Edwards thought he was Bobby Kennedy look alike. He thought he was really cool. I ALWAYS thought he was a little weasel. Then when he was “grooming” himself before a TV show... the way he was carrying on about combing his hair etc.. wow... made me sick to my stomach. That man is evil. How he treated his sick wife who stood by him and then he can look his daughter and his little children in the eye?????????????/ Evil. As for his girlfriend... they deserve each other.
I feel sad for Elizabeth and her children. How it must make the daughter sick to even look at her father.
Edwards is not on trial for being a scumbag. He is on trial for converting campaign funds to personal use.
The charges are dubious. He solicited money from some rich people to pay off Rielle Hunter. He could easily have written the check to Rielle Hunter himself, but then Elizabeth Edwards would have noticed the missing money.
The whole thing rests on the idea that covering up the affair was in fact a campaign expense because Edwards was more electable if people didn't know about it. That's really a stretch. Essentially, they are trying to interpret the law to say that a candidate can't solicit money for anything. That's not what the law says.
Let's say Edwards had urged a contributor to secretly give a million dollars to cancer research. (Extremely unlikely, but bear with me.) If someone could show that cancer survivors were more likely to vote for Edwards, would Edwards have thus solicited a campaign contribution because the donation increased the number of cancer survivors?
I am very much against stretching laws to apply where they should not.
According to a report on the news last night, she’s even providing legal assistance to the defense team...she’s a law school grad...
so much for accountability in their family.
Here she is trying to "cash in" and take full advantage of her own son's death, milking every sympathy vote they could get. This was low enough for a barf alert. Elizabeth Edwards confronts Ann Coulter
that is right out of the movie Damage from 1992 where when Miranda Richards (character) finds that Jeremy Irons has been having an affair with their son's fiancee Juliette Binoche thru a brutal discovery...she does precisely that as she crumbles in despair..."what I'm not good enough anymore?"
I know that Ms Edwards was known to be a harsh woman but I'll give her a pass on that one.
But I mean...couldn't any woman just look at that vain peacock and realize he had to be either a cheater or a homosexual..
The damage is generational. The children of divorce often suffer poverty and need, and are wounded with a misplaced sense of unworthiness which infects and distorts their relationships as men and women, fathers and mothers.
I don’t understand how the daughter can sit there and support her father through this, after the way he deceived her sick mother with a bimbo, and brought this all down on them. The only reason I can think of is that she’s got dollar signs in her eyes, and doesn’t want to disown the old man for fear of losing out on any inheritance she might get.
I agree with you...I have sympathy for her obvious pain and anguish even if she was known to be something of a harridan.
Whatever she learned that day must have pushed her over the edge...hard stuff.
I do not condone cheating..have been faithful to one woman for many years now which is about character more than easy habit for guys like me...best to wait to get married and get over all that...so you aren't always left wondering
But when I grew up in the South...men of means as a rule cheated with willing women...the women might be lower class or bored country club wives
But folks were more discreet...no pregnancies...nothing public and even if the wife found out or suspected there was always effort to try to keep from shaming her (or him for that matter too)
more decorum about it....
now even though i think GenX and Y white men cheat much less ...when they do there is no discretion as much...it's clumsy like tabloid TMZ stuff
hard to explain but things are far different now
of all my married pals I know only two men who cheat and one woman..and her’s is an open marriage
yet in my dad's day in Mississippi....I'd wager around half of business owning and professional class men cheated...I would actually meet folks who would tell me my dad was one of the few men they knew who did not...course he had married Miss Mississippi....men cheat on pretty women too though and often with less pretty lovers
maybe I am just insulated out here in past suburban Nashville ...
Wow. Nasty b!tch to the end...
Sounds like they both deserved each other.
Cavuto mentioned a poll where 3% had a favorable opinion of J. Edwards. And he said he was amazed at the results and wondered who the 3% are and why anybody would have a favorable view of him.
Are you familiar with this word:
THAN
You’ve grown into being a wonderful man, husband and father...one I am proud to know.
“now even though i think GenX and Y white men cheat much less ...when they do there is no discretion as much...it’s clumsy like tabloid TMZ stuff

Technology.
It was much easier to cheat before this ever advancing technology. lol
“I would actually meet folks who would tell me my dad was one of the few men they knew who did not...course he had married Miss Mississippi....men cheat on pretty women too though and often with less pretty lovers”
Your dad was a good man, and a good role model. His parents dun brung him up right...and so did yours.
“maybe I am just insulated out here in past suburban Nashville ...”
Maybe you are, simply speaking, a happy man.
Ann was set up by Crissy after she made the comment at CPAC about Edwards. I was sitting 10 feet in front of her at CPAC when she made the comment. I turned to the guy next to me and said “just wait until the Press distorts this”.
One of them was my sis, the social worker, who was mightily impressed with the "Two Americas" pitch. Edwards, she claimed, "really understands the problem."
In response to a recent question about how she rated Edwards now, though, she didn't seem to recognize the name...
Thank you!!!
She wanted to be in the WH more than he did!!!
Damage- that was an excellent although rarely mentioned movie.
And as it turned out it described events that occurred at Hillsdale College a few years later.
Way to go Cowgirl...well said.
