Ron Brown defends anti-gay stance [Husker coach]
ESPN ^ | April 25th, 2012 | ESPN News Services

OMAHA, Neb. -- Nebraska assistant coach Ron Brown says he'll keep speaking out against homosexuality even if it costs him his job. "To be fired for my faith would be a greater honor than to be fired because we didn't win enough games," Brown said in an interview with The Associated Press. "I haven't lost any sleep over it. I realize at some point, we live in a politically correct enough culture where that very well could happen." Brown earned national acclaim for leading a prayer at midfield before the Cornhuskers' game at scandal-torn Penn State six months ago. He has been under fire recently for testifying against an anti-discrimination ordinance that extended protections to gay and transgender people. “ To be fired for my faith would be a greater honor than to be fired because we didn't win enough games. ” -- Ron Brown In Brown's three-minute appearance, he challenged ordinance sponsor Ben Gray and other members to remember the Bible does not condone homosexuality. He told council members they would be held to "great accountability for the decision you are making." "The question I have for you all is, like Pontius Pilate, what are you going to do with Jesus?" Brown asked. "Ultimately, if you don't have a relationship with him, and you don't really have a Bible-believing mentality, really, anything goes... At the end of the day, it matters what God thinks most." Barbara Baier, a member of the Lincoln Board of Education, wrote to university administrators to request Brown's firing in the wake of his testimony. She noted the university-wide policy not to discriminate based on, among other things, sexual orientation.

ESPN is so confused... is it racist to call a black man a homophobe? No image of Ron Brown with the story, of course.

The queers want him fired pronto... standard operating procedure for the homo-nazis.

Stick to your guns, Mr. Brown!

Well if they don’t fire him, Nebraska just got a new number one fan.

Go Huskers!

If they fire him, then I have a new Christian example to show my grandkid how to stand up for her faith.

Well, I have that now anyway. :-)

Go Ron!

I've never watched much Cornhusker football, but I think I'll give them try this fall.

Ron Brown's "sexual orientation" is to speak out against the sin of homosexuality.

Brown said he isn't "picking on" homosexuals. He said a gay agenda has cropped up in American culture and that he is merely responding to it.

He said gays and lesbians do not deserve the same protections as groups that historically have been discriminated against, such as blacks and women.

"The scriptures teach that blacks were created by God, that women were created by God, but that homosexuals ... that is not what God had in mind at all," Brown said.

Brown said his words should not be interpreted as an attack on homosexuals.

"I have simply said that based on the Bible, homosexuality, the lifestyle of homosexuality, is a sin," he said. "That has created a flame within itself. But I've decided I'm not going to be afraid of people calling me a bigot or a homophobic or narrow-minded out of a simple, gentle, compassionate expression of the truth of God's word. I'm not going to be bought off by that."

Barbara Baier should be fired due to her lack of tolerance of others in their diversity.

Actually to be fired for his faith would be a greater honor than to be HIRED because he won a lot of games.

Thanks Third Person. According to the university, it's now legal to fire someone for holding an opinion.

Nebraska LGBT will just do what they did to former PSU Womens Basketball coach Renee Portland. They’ll dig up a former player who will say that Ron Brown created a chilling atmosphere of homophobia. The Media will run with it, and Brown will be out.

It is only racist if said black man is a lib. Otherwise it is fair game. I am a bit confused by the union idiot that wrote UNL to fire coach Brown. To fire him because of UNL’s discrimination clause based on his faith? Isn’t that the same thing? If UNL fires him, I hope he sues them for discrimination.

The Husker head coach and AD stand behind Brown.

"Why don't you ask me why I hired him?" [head coach Bo] Pelini said. "I hired him because he's a good football coach. He's trustworthy. He has a lot of integrity. I hired him because I believe in him as a football coach and a guy who has positive impact on kids."

Pelini said he knows Brown injects religion into his relationships with his players and none have complained.

Osborne, now the athletic director, said Brown is within his rights to express his personal views.

"I think it's important that there be clarity with what you do in your capacity at the university and what you do as a private citizen," Osborne said.

If Arkansas hires Gary Patterson or Art Briles next year Brown could take over TCU or Baylor.

Only if you are a conservative. Dr. Tom (Osborne) is not about to fire him or allow the University to do so, and the people of Nebraska, who are pretty rabid fans, will back him to the hilt. Some in academe @UN might have other opinions, but they'll lose.

In recent years, there has been an effort to equate the current homosexual rights movement with the black civil rights movement of the 50s and 60s. Blacks universally resent being compared to perverts, but the analogy fails for two principal reasons: 1) The homosexual movement can’t find a Black reverend to support their deviance , and 2) unlike blacks, homosexuals generally have to invent their own victimization stories so they will have some “social ill” to eradicate.
Of course, such stories are never a manifestation of the illnesses of “society.” They are simply evidence of widespread mental illness in the LGBT “civil rights” movement.
