Skip to comments.Threat against Sen. Marco Rubio under investigation, his office says
Posted on 04/24/2012 9:52:22 PM PDT by My Favorite Headache
U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., is the target of a threat deemed credible enough to merit police protection in Washington, D.C., and at his home in West Miami, his office said late Tuesday.
The freshman senator rocketed to national political stardom in recent weeks as he jumped to the top of the shortlist of potential running mates for presumptive Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney. From CNN to The Daily Show, Rubio has become a staple of cable-news chatter about whether Romney will offer him the spot and whether he would take it.
But the fame has made him not just a magnet for support and criticism, but now the target of a threat.
Rubios office said no additional information about the threat would be released for now. The U.S. Capitol Police and the West Miami Police Department are providing security and investigating.
Neither agency could be reached for an official comment.
A police cruiser was parked in front of Rubios West Miami home Tuesday night. The senator was not home; he is scheduled to deliver a foreign policy speech Wednesday at the Brookings Institution in Washington.
If Rubio became Romneys running mate, he would receive around-the-clock protection from the U.S. Secret Service.
pose that simple definition to the division of elections in your state... and ask them how 0bama can be on the ballot
having been president does NOT make you eligible for the office or the ballot
getting away with a crime once does not mean you get to commit that crime into perpetuity
I don’t think Obama can win Florida in 2012. The seniors do not like Obama anymore, and they vote.
You would be correct if Obama presidency was officially declared to be a crime. Since the reality is opposite, a precedence has been set. So it is not correct to say a crime has been committed. I don’t like it and you don’t like it, but we do not have the authority to make it an official crime. Only the courts and congress have that power.
Therefore it can be repeated, unlike crimes as defined by law.
Yes, I’m a member of the 78 percent group. I’m also a military veteran having served in Vietnam, an NRA member and a member of the Republican Jewish Coalition.
What are your credentials?
deliberately undermining the Constitution of the United States by members of the federal government would not only break their oath of office but would be working to undermine the country... otherwise known as treason
treason is a crime in all countries.
i called Rubio’s miami office to see if they believed the senator was eligible to run as vp by being eligible to assume office.
they believe he is eligible AND a natural born citizen, even tho they admit his parents were cuban when he was born.
like dems, they are pushing the incorrect assumption that being a citizen born in the US makes you a natural born citizen.
this is concerning as these people are working in a US senator’s office and don’t have a basic understanding of citizenship in the country
i’ll try the washdc office next and see how that flies. i expect more of the same.
If it is treason, which court you plan on using to prove it?
Or are you acting as the judge, jury & executioner?
I believe the laws as passed by the congress and duly signed by the president are the final word. Even though I agree with you on what constitutes a NBC, my prognostication is powerless and irrelevant.
So I will accept the reality on the ground as the final word on whether Rubio is eligible or not. Just for the record, I am NOT supporting Rubio for VP in 2012. Regardless of his NBC status, he does not have enough experience in government, business or military to be ready to be president if it becomes necessary.
as expected... rubio’s washdc said the same thing.
the staffer believes he is a natural born citizen because he’s a citizen. if you ask what’s the difference, they falter then get back on topic. they can’t explain the difference, as to them a citizen and a natural born citizen are the same... which they are most certainly are not.
What’s the “cut to the chase” question here? How about?:
“What do you think the Framer’s intended when they used the phrase ‘natural born Citizen?’”
This issue needs to hammer every politician who holds a townhall meeting between now and Nov.
So Arnold Scwarenegger is eligible?
i tried playing with nelson’s office, pretending to be a dem concerned rubio would be on the ticket
the female i spoke with was sympathetic ... and quickly realized if rubio were to be bashed by dems for not being eligible due to his lack of NBC status, then 0bama would also not be eligible.
she then kicked into the claims that citizens are natural born citizens. i asked what the difference would be... and she tossed in naturalized. after allowing for people born in the US, excluding naturalized, i got her to a point where she was trying to explain the difference between a citizen and a NBC if both were born in the US. she got flustered and we ‘got cut off’
funny how those government phones are so quirky these days
rubio should withdraw from consideration... explaining his lack of NBC status disqualifies him from the VP slot.
when asked how... he would be able to state that his parents weren’t US citizens at his birth... thereby making him ‘only’ a US citizen... but not a natural born citizen
and let it go there.
the inference hanging in the air.
additionally, it would be good to see the senator state he will endeavor to uphold his oath of office by insuring the integrity of florida’s ballot... demanding all candidates, and their running mates, are eligible to assume office before being placed on the ballot.
(ahhh... integrity.... i can dream, can’t i?)
Any Rubio thread is visited almost immediately by the N*A*T*U*R*A*L B*O*R*N C*I*T*I*Z*E*N clown car. Wocka-wocka-wocka!!!!
Oh, sure; let’s emulate the criminal success of Obama! /sarc
Rubio’s parents were not naturalized citizens when he was born in the U.S.A. He is only a citizen, not a Natrual Born citizen.
Three types of citizenship are recognized by our government:
1) native born (jus solis);
2) naturalized (jus sanguinis);
3) and citizen-by-statute (derived from law).
All have equal rights. All can serve in Congress, either as a Representative in the House, or as a Senator in the Senate per the U.S.Constitution, Article I, Section 2, Clause 2.
The following link will take you to the governments own Immigration Service web page describing the three types of citizenship.
Natural Born Citizen is NOT a type of statutory citizenship as per the Federal Government. Natural Born is ONLY an eligibility requirement for the U.S. Presidency per Article II, Section 1, clause 5, of the U.S. Constitution, and requires, as per the Founders, the President to be born in the United States (jus solis) AND of citizen parents (jus sanguinas).
No one has the RIGHT to be President. The eligibility requirement of Natural Born Citizenship (jus solis + jus sanguinas: born in the U.S. of U.S. citizen parents) must be viewed as a means to prevent split allegiance for any President of the United States.
The above definition is found in the holding of Minor v. Happersett (1874), a Supreme Court case. It has been used in at least 25 other Supreme Court cases and as such is established law.
See number 64.
There's dreaming and there's "what's that you're smoking?"
I get the sense that Rubio wants very much to be VP (and eventually POTUS) and presently enjoys a tingling feeling going up and down his leg that Obama has paved the way for him.
Not to mention those like Hannity, Limbaugh, Levin, Coulter, Drudge, Malkin, et. al., who either didn't want to talk about it (as if it wasn't of critical importance), poo pooed the whole thing (i.e., once again carrying the GOP water), or chastised those who ‘dare’ question it, resorting to labeling any skeptics as ‘truthers’ or assigning similar derogatory labels.
Talk radio, FOX, and many ‘conservative’ pundits are equally responsible for 0 getting in the WH.
I don’t think I will ever look at the “around the clock secret service protection” the same again. Not after Columbia.
I think you are 100% correct.
Houston has a huge population of people of Mexican ancestry. A Cuban Republican ran for mayor of Houston in 2003 against a black Democrat and a white Democrat. The white Democrat won. In 2002 a person of Mexican ancestry ran for Texas Governor. He lost to Rick Perry.
I took the first 60 precincts reported in the Houston newspaper (out of a huge number of precincts) and what I knew about what the ethnic/economic makeup of those precincts. I plotted the results of the 2003 election against the results of the 2002 election for those precincts whose results were available for both elections. The result was this plot which shows that in 2003 a large percentage of Houston's people of Mexican ancestry voted for the Cuban Republican. In the previous year a much larger percentage of those with Mexican ancestry voted for the Democrat governor candidate with Mexican ancestry. The precincts shown as black dots were areas of town that I didn't know well enough to categorize their ethnic/economic makeup.
If Romney picks Rubio as his VP, would Obama drop Biden and pick someone of Mexican ancestry or a woman?
I really hope you are right on that, entropy, my state seems totally insane.
Was at the doctor’s office yesterday where an elderly black man and another man from Taxecheussests (sp? no idea) who was formly stationed in Scotland were talking about how it’s ok to lose some freedom in order to get Obamacare.
I almost leaned over and said a democrat once tried to take my freedom. I ate his liver with some fava beans and nice chianti. Fuh fuh fuh fuh.
Restrain yourself, chris RESTRAIN! So I did, but I was so damn close...
The democRATS are scared shyyyytless of Rubio.
Really...... The Democrats consider Rubio the perfect running mate for Romney. Two people with questions about their eligibility to serve as president and Vice President concerning whether they are Natural Born Citizens or not. In Rubio’s case it is “NOT”, with Romney there are questions from more than one direction.
We will have Obama and Biden and Romney and Rubio and of the four the only one we are certain is a NBC is Biden. Isn’t that cute?
Says who? John Boehner? LOL
That is true. Putting Rubio on VP slot absolves Obama on his NBC status. Birthers will be dejected, and that includes me too.
- But that would put you in the 22% group
I have a question that needs to be posed also:
Do you seriously believe that the Founders of this nation put something in the Constitution that would allow the son of a British subject to be President of the United States?
Have either Romney or Rubio published official documents verifying their constitutional eligibility? I’ve seen a lot of unofficial third party “statements” and “ramblings”, but no actual copies of documents of record. Can anyone enlighten me please? It is rumored that both these guys have “difficulties”, but there seems to be confusion. If Romney/Rubio are elected without vetting, we can say goodbye to any resolution of the Obama affair.
The man’s an Uncle Tomás so it’s not like anyone cares.
“The influx of illegals (there ARE Latinos who have come here legally) occurred not just because of those who are Open Borders fanatics. In a sense, we are all responsible because our businesses were happy to get them, people liked hard-working gardeners, construction workers, and housekeepers, etc. Its been going on for years.”
“We are all responsible”?? I suppose that’s true if everybody you associate with is a small time crook.
By 1994 Californians had had enough of the lawbreakers who like to hire illegals. Prop 187 passed and would have done for California what SB 1070 has done for Arizona.
It would have made things uncomfortable for the millions of foreign nationals squatting here illegally if not for a corrupt Federal judge colluding with an equally corrupt Democratic governor.
But it wasn’t just the judge and Democrat governor, it was also the strident band of Open Borders fanatics in the GOP who helped to subvert any attempt to send the invaders packing back to their homelands. Those of us involved with Prop 187 won’t forget the treachery of Jack Kemp, Bill Bennett, Dubya, and the rest of that ilk. Rubio is just the latest.
Funny you said that. As a Cuban, I can guarantee that “Latinos” don’t look too kindly upon Cubans. We are successful and love America, it is our second home. We do not march against our country. In Obama we see Castro and his “change.” Johnson’s Adjustment Act doesn’t help our cause, either....It is folly to think that because Rubio speaks Spanish the Hispanic vote is ours. If anything, we’d lose them. Oh yeah, almost forgot kinda like Rubio forgets, he is not natural born.
We are all responsible?? I suppose thats true if everybody you associate with is a small time crook.
Have you ever openly protested or reported this before 1985?
That is just the question I sent to my House Rep. today:
Could you please verify a statement attributed as your position on a national security issue? Recently a staffer in your office told me that you are satisfied that Barack Obama is Constitutionally eligible to serve as POTUS, even though his father was never a US citizen.
Apparently, a foreigner may legally father a child here and raise the child abroad as an enemy of the state before returning that offspring to the US in time to meet the 14-year residency requirement and run for President.
Is that your position? Is that what you think the Framer's intended by the national security provision featured in Article II, Section 1 of the Constitution?
FReepers: Please use SOME fraction of the time you spend posting here and write to your House Rep. and Senators about the importance of the eligibility issue. And try to get a FRiend to do likewise.
Been there, done that. They either ignore or send back talking-point-memos provided a la the CRS or some such.
I did send fiddy bones to folks working on behalf of another term for Joe Arpaio, and I might be able to scare up another of the same for his CCP to help them continue their efforts. Do these count?
I have done and will continue to do. I will be seeing many of them in person very soon and you can bet they will get the message from me!
True, he is a citizen.
But the eligibility requirement for POTUS and VPOTUS is more stringent.
I hope you are this passionate for your wife.
I hope you are this passionate for your wife.
LOL, but a real shame that a once highly-esteemed organization has been sullied by behavior that filtered down from the guy at the top.
Wouldn’t have happened under Bush.
I don't think it is misguided to send letters to Congress. However, I realize that one letter, one constituent, won't do get it done. Everyone who believes in the importance of protecting the natural born citizen eligibility requirement needs to lend their hands and voices to this effort. If Rubio gets on the ballot, it's all over.
I think it is wrong for the many folks who read and post here and other similar venues to limit their effort to one particular forum.
The NBC eligibility needs to go public. We must relentlessly confront our elected officials with the facts, especially when they appear in public to solicit our support as voters.

You shame me. You are of course entirely correct. In addition to sending the letters to and confronting elected officials in public when opportunity arises however, educating our fellow citizens in everyday situations is also very, very important in my opinion.
When I started looking into this a little over a year ago (again, to my shame, for not paying attention earlier), I was originally mocked as a "birther" and a "nut-job" by those that I attempted to explain the crime to.
Of the five colleagues with whom I interact most and who were to say the least, skeptical of my concerns when I originally aired them, I am happy to say that ALL FIVE of them are now 100% convinced that our presidency has in fact been usurped by an ineligible fraud and his Marxist enablers. A rational person willing to take an honest look at the huge amount of information (and disinformation, certainly) on the subject could hardly come to any other conclusion.
And those who have their eyes opened in turn will educate others, and so on, until hopefully a tipping point in public opinion is reached and it becomes impossible for our overlords to ignore the issue any longer.
One doesn't have to be a tinfoil-hat-wearing conspiracy theorist to come to the conclusion that a HUGE effort has gone into placing, and keeping this mystery wrapped in an enigma in position to wield the levers of vast power afforded the Executive, for a whole host of reasons, including both financial and ideological ones.
butter and SD- courtesy Ping.
“Have you ever openly protested or reported this before 1985?”
Absolutely. I moved to SoCal in 1966 and began seeing the illegal alien problem by the early 70s. Hard to miss when you’re living in the middle of it.
Really? Then you are truly one first class oddball.
You really went back into ancient history to find that post and I have no idea what I said that got me promoted to first class oddball from clueless idiot.
I lived in San Diego in the 70’s. I saw no protests about this issue.
“You really went back into ancient history to find that post”
‘ancient history’? - I answered your post the same day that you posted it. Drink much?
“I lived in San Diego in the 70s. I saw no protests about this issue.”
Well I guess if you didn’t see any protests that there couldn’t have been any.
Although it escapes me how you would have been aware of private letters to Congressmen complaining about illegal aliens.
You are right.
But it was a looong day.
Can’t drink too much, unfortunately. Low tolerance for alcohol.
May be a little senile though.
Rubio could become a hero and a Senator for Life by merely saying:
In fact, in that simple statement he need not mention anyone else's name. Ditto, Bobby Jindal. Neither Rubio parent was a citizen at the time of his birth, and only one of Jindal's parents was.
Ah Yes. San Diego, the district of patriotic, but motormouth airhead B-1 Bob Dornan, who thought illegal immigration was a non-issue ... until the Mexicans stole HIS House seat with fraudulent votes.
The GOP elected officials to whom I have written all use the Boehner-supplied "Born-in-Hawaii" Mantra.
This being the de facto rule, perhaps Don Ho should be President.
